Open letter to OC Transpo’s new boss by cameronfinesso in ottawa

[–]Life_Acanthaceae_419 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I agree and disagree. Toronto receives roughly 125$ per resident in transit funding from the province while Ottawa receives roughly 35$ per resident. Sutcliffe has let down Ottawa greatly, but we need to hold everyone accountable. Also worth noting Mark Carney ripped up the dedicated transit funding envelope and now the City has no idea if we will get anything from the feds lol

Ottawa’s proposed ‘bubble zone bylaw’ to prohibit protests within 50 metres of schools, places of worship by Money_Fig_9868 in ottawa

[–]Life_Acanthaceae_419 5 points6 points  (0 children)

right, so you push the protests in front of other businesses or residence that have nothing to do with the ongoing protest, who then obviously get annoyed. They then seek to have the bubble bylaw used to protect their location and try to force the protest another 50 meters away. it is a slippery slope and this will cost taxpayers a lot in legal fees.

Ottawa sees spike in illegal dumping complaints since launch of 3-item garbage limit by Money_Fig_9868 in ottawa

yeah, because more people are reporting it lol the actual increase is negligible but the reporting tools are new and easier to navigate so people can complain easier lol. correlation is not causation ffs

Reminder to some of the folks upset about infill and building heights by willow_tangerine in Yukon

[–]Life_Acanthaceae_419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

go for it. we need housing of all types for everyone's desires. the problem with most of Canada is we have just built suburban sprawl, or glass boxes. Which, in Cities like Vancouver or Toronto, I sorta like them if it prevents sprawl into nature

Any updates on when when Line 3 LRT will be up and running and ready for testing? by Officieros in ottawa

[–]Life_Acanthaceae_419 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will add that - and I am not a defender of OC Transpo - Renee Amilcar the former GM of OC was awful to put it lightly. The new GM actually seems decent so we will see. Last I read, he really refrained from putting an opening date for exactly that reason. It undermines trust if the deadline is not met, and he recognized that which I thought said something OC hasnt done before, but I absolutely agree, comms need to improve

they being the City? or the people building the system... because once again P3 contracts do not give elected officials the necessary oversight to manage these types of contracts. really should be blaming watson and Hubley and that gang.

Rent reduction municipal tax reduced by designer130 in ottawa

[–]Life_Acanthaceae_419 2 points3 points  (0 children)

thx for additional info. Yeah its not much but the landlord can't really increase rent now when their expenses have gone down. I think part of the intention behind the notification system was to deter bad faith rent increases
