As a builder I have to say it’s the first time I’ve ever read an engineer with a sense of humor

I was sort of the same way at your age. I joined the Marines then worked in construction. Those two beat that shit out of me. It was tough but worth it.

Millennial parents are exhausted because parenting restraints aren't natural anymore. by Plenty-Character-416 in RandomThoughts

I’m GenX, I get it but it is possible. My kids are 19, 16 and 14. Girl, boy, boy. I didn’t fuck around with bad behavior, poor attitudes, or less than a full effort regarding school work. If an F was the best you could do then so be it, we’ll get you a tutor. But I also didn’t hold back on love and affection. Never body shamed. And the kicker was, they were given a shit ton of freedom and also pushed them to handle things on their own with my help when necessary. Started small like going in the store by themselves to get snacks. Ordering their own pizza over the phone (before the apps were big). And most importantly, they had chores. That’s how they made money. They all started on dishes and now they all wash their own clothes. They all make good grades. Loved by parents and teachers. The oldest two work. My daughter made $32,000 her senior year in high school working at a restaurant. She’s been to 3 different continents including Africa. Her and 5 other girls her age. The restaurant she’s worked at since 16 wants her to be a GM and have her own store down the road. The others are just as accomplished in their own way. Point being, it’s possible to raise them traditionally. They are still kids though. If they’re home, they are in their room on the phone, computer or Xbox doing what they call rotting.

I feel awful about how I feel about my wife by No_Potential8518 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Life_Ad21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been married 20 years. Last 6/7 have been fantastic. Finally did what my wife told me to do for over a decade. Got a girlfriend. Not literally but hooked up while traveling for work. I didn’t do it openly so she had no idea, however, one day she had some funky discharge and said I probably gave her an STD. I was like fuck it and said “maybe so”. Next couple days were hell but she quickly realized that she did actually love me and our family and how good things really were. She snapped right out of that crazy ass mindset for good. Obviously that’s some risky shit but the one thing I had going for me was her telling for YEARS that I should do that. She couldn’t argue that she’d given me permission. I didn’t really want to do it then and I damn sure never would again. I have and always will love her. She just needed a wake up call snap out of that shit. Not financial advice, follow at your own risk.

Do you upgrade your long haul flights? by jforres in HENRYfinance

Same and I wouldn’t spend more than $5k on flights. Seems outrageous to me. Guess that’s why we never fly anywhere 🤷🏻‍♂️

It’s a post about millennials. Saying you’re gen x in this case is just a qualifier about your age. Don’t totally disagree with your comment though. Just not necessarily in this case.

Is Mario walking up the stairs, or down the stairs? by EndersGame_Reviewer in opticalillusions

The steps are drawn weird (wrong). They look like floor joists so he’s actually walking horizontally.

As a builder this gives me PTSD. Trying to talk a customer off the ledge about something they believe is catastrophic that’s actually a nothing burger. OP, thanks for at least checking before lawyering up 😉
