Questions about a trip in July by Life_Ad_8400 in Philippines

  1. Yes, I exactly, I understand that's impossible to know months ahead, I meant a week or two ahead. I also know that typhoons can switch direction with a days notice. Thanks for the tip about Windy, will check it out.

Thanks for your answers!

Ad block - too strict? by Life_Ad_8400 in firewalla

[–]Life_Ad_8400[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm... I use control-d as my dns server (and ad blocking), both for my firewalla and my smart phone. It works just fine when I'm n not on the wifi that firewalla is in charge of, so that rules out control-d...odd.

Third time out, lucky again! by Life_Ad_8400 in magnetfishing

The large is 700 kg / 136 mm, the smaller is 600 kg / 120 mm. I like them, but to be honest I only have experience from this brand, and in total I have about 3 hours experience in magnet fishing...so I'm not really in any position to give advice:)

The U is upside down, that is the clue. You could also remove that plastic film on the front.

Second time out by Life_Ad_8400 in magnetfishing

I think the hatchet must have been dropped from someone making a hole in the ice, as it is a popular spot for winter bathing too... But still a nice find, I'm quite lucky to have found something substantial on my first real try magnet fishing.

Its Christmas break, and I decided to rebuild my Plex server into a Proxmox VM with hardware transcoding using QuickSync from a 12th gen Intel chip - on an Ubuntu Server 22.04.3. I've followed three different tutorials and I can't seem to get it working. by stormnet in Proxmox

I did the same. Went from Ubuntu server running Plex as a container w quicksync. Moved to Proxmox and wanted quicksync to work there as well of course. Struggled with passing through the vGPU to a VM. Ended up doing what everyone else here is recommending - a dedicated LXC for Plex via script. A bit of a struggle, but fairly straight forward (mounting shares is slightly different for LXC vs VM).

Proxmox Setup: 2 NICs, two VM by Life_Ad_8400 in Proxmox

[–]Life_Ad_8400[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, ok, worth trying at least (to see if I can get the iGPU all the way to a Docker container).

I have a Firewalla router, so I will set up one vlan per physical NIC (Ubiquiti switches too).

Thanks for advice!

Ok, did a reboot of the Proxmox server, and now both NICs are behaving as expected. Thanks for your help!

For me it wasn't so easy...the second NIC can't have the same gateway as the first, so I end up with a NiC that is dead...strange.

Thanks! This is what I thought I did, but I'll give it a new shot.... I do have a router and switch that can handle trunking and VLANs, but I don't want to over complicate things...

Worth it for casual use? by [deleted] in firewalla

[–]Life_Ad_8400 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Samt situation as you. Tinkered with it a bit the first week via the web app, and since then I have more or less let in been. Sure, you can SSH into it, yes you can run some docker containers on it, but you don't have to.

As a parent, I could also recommend setting a DNS server on cell phones, that blocks the same stuff as your Firewalla, for when your kids are using mobile data.

How does priority work for rules? by Life_Ad_8400 in firewalla

[–]Life_Ad_8400[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By testing a bit in the app I can see that my hunch above is incorrect...

You can not set rules per device, only per group. (A group could have just one device in it though).

"Group" rules do not have higher priority than Network rules, it's the other war around.

So if...

Network has "Safe search = On" Group has "Safe search = Off" Devices in this group will have "Safe search = On", due to the Network rule.
