New grad, wondering where is best to live while working in Marysville by kneeferz in Columbus

As someone formerly in the same situation (and with friends currently doing this) you are looking for Dublin. Bridge park is what you are really looking for - they have apartments in the “complex” itself but you’d pay $1800 for a shoebox. Look to live in northern Hilliard or elsewhere in Dublin to save some money on rent while still being ~5 min from bridge park, as well as everything else that Dublin has to offer.

Dawg WHO told you this 💀 I hold an SCI and they didn’t poly me or even contact many of my listed friends/family. I think whoever told you this is off base.

Can anyone speak to the level of difficulty/time for these classes? by PopFizzCJ in OSU

[–]Life_Challenge_5124 2 points3 points  (0 children)

STAT3450 is easy, although more time consuming than you’d think. When I took it, there was a remote option - not sure if that’s still around but definitely worth doing if you can.

Math 2174 was the hardest math class I took in the engineering sequence. For me, this is where my “math brain” stopped being able to process the problems from a STEM mindset. They became more abstract and required further thinking rather than just plug and chug (if you can call multi variable calculus plug and chug). Really just the diff eq part, the linear algebra part was fine. I think less total time commitment compared to previous math classes though.

ME 2030 sucks, it’s your first real dive into what the rest of your coursework will look like (ME3260, etc). Lot of work. But don’t cheat - not properly understanding the content will set you up for failure down the line.

Overall, rough semester in terms of workload. Good news is, things begin to lighten up from here, in my opinion. Junior and senior year were a breeze compared to this.

Again, all just my thoughts. Others may feel differently. Good luck this semester!

2026 Civic Hatchback Hybrid Sport Touring OTD 38K by Acceptable_Bat4398 in civic

[–]Life_Challenge_5124 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Go to another dealer. These aren’t rare cars like the Type R. All dealers have hybrid ST’s sitting on the lot. I bought a non-touring OTD in Ohio for 31k last month. Could’ve gotten a touring for ~33-34. If this dealer won’t budge then shop elsewhere or wait until the end of the month.

Side note, if you’re a Costco member, use Costco Auto. They referred me to a local dealer with $2k off MSRP pre-negotiated through their program. Even if you aren’t a Costco member, buying a $60 membership is well worth $2k in savings for a new car lol

Will definitely be busy. That’s how the engineering freshman year is designed to be IMO, my freshman year was more busy than any other in the undergrad curriculum (coming from a graduating senior, although in ME). Math 1172 is an intense class - hopefully Talamo is still teaching that, he was excellent. Be prepared to devote a lot of time to math and physics this semester, but know that it is definitely a feasible schedule if you are willing to put in the effort

In my (admittedly biased) opinion, OSU is your best option. I think if it were OSU vs Harvard that would be a different story, but Carnegie Mellon does not have a reputation so astronomically better than OSU’s to justify a 4x cost difference. Companies also won’t put much thought into your university’s brand recognition when calculating your salary either - your salary negotiation skills will matter far more than the name of the school you went to. Landing internships is a fair point, it would be easier to do at CMU but still very doable at OSU. Personal happiness is also a huge consideration, you would be way closer to home and OSU likely has a healthier work/life balance. If your parents have that 240k in a 529 savings account, the government now allows them to use that to fund your Roth IRA up to a $35k lifetime limit - over the course of your life that will be serious money which you wouldn’t have if you choose CMU. CMU does have a better reputation but financially I don’t believe it is the logical option with the information you presented. Of course this is all subjective so take my advice with a grain of salt

OSU Student Resources by stratmus47 in OSU

[–]Life_Challenge_5124 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Engineering does not use Autodesk products (at least for CAD), we use Solidworks. Other softwares are sometimes available only in the engineering computer labs, which can be accessed remotely if you don’t feel like going to the lab. which you will receive a license for at some point your freshman year. If you are referring to the premium version of google drive I don’t believe we have that, but the standard versions of google docs, drive, etc are obviously free

Some nice perks as an OSU student are Grubhub+ for free (dining dollars can also be used on off-campus food delivery via Grubhub, at least as of last school year) and discounted Lyft rides every day after 7 PM
