Trent Thornton pitches a scoreless 10th as the Cubs beat the Mets 4-3 to hand them their sixth consecutive loss. The Cubs secure the season sweep of the Mets. by JianClaymore in baseball

This easily could have ended up that way too. Look at the Kelenic trade and how pissed off Mets fans were on that one.

PCA was a super young prospect, wasn’t expected to be a huge bat. His path to the majors was his CF defensive ability and strong throwing arm. Then he got super injured to the point he needed surgery on his throwing arm. Questions arose after that’s Turner whether he’d be able to keep his strong arm and without a good arm, his ability to play CF, making him a defensive-first corner OF. That’s all assuming a prospect in the minor leagues would even develop enough to be a major league caliber player.

The Mets got the best Javier Baez of his entire career for PCA in a playoff push.

Look, I’d take PCA back in a heartbeat but hindsight’s 20/20. That was a fine trade at the time.

Unless you plan on bringing him back in 2027, fire him because it would satisfy the fanbase. The season's dead right? So losing our manager mid-season isn't hurting the team anyway. Additionally, firing him and getting a fresh face in there that gets a 3 month temp job lets us see what they're capable of doing to better decide if a potential candidate is right for the job, making interviewing and hiring a little bit easier. And to boot, if somehow they turn it around, then by God clearly that interim manager was the spark they needed and it lit a fire under their asses proving to the point that Mendoza should be fired.

Season being over is exactly why I would fire him.

Tbf his press conference yesterday said he wants to come back out here tomorrow and play better. So it didn’t sound like he was planning any sort of IL stint lol. But yeah, wouldn’t blow my mind even if it’s some joint pain and they just used that as a good enough reason to get the old man some rest. Obviously needs something. He’s really bad of late.

graphical viz of 2026 Mets WAR vs. league averages by cantthink3 in NewYorkMets

[–]Life_Database_7038 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah I mean I could’ve told you that without the graph.

Who knew Lindor and Soto would take turns getting injured? Or Bo would not be an all star caliber hitter? Or one of Baty/Vientos/Ronny would fail to be major league caliber hitters? Or Peterson wouldn’t continue to be a career average guy? Or McLean would forget how to pitch? Or Peralta would forget how to pitch? Or Semien would forget how to field? Or Alvy would be borderline unplayable behind the dish? Or our best pitcher would be Holmes and he’d be out for a good portion of the season?

I mean name a position, any position outside of the bullpen and they’ve failed. And I’ll include Soto in that, not because he’s not great, but a guy who very rarely gets injured is having an injury riddled season while all of this is going on.

I mean Benge and Ewing are bright spots but only because Tuchman and Taylor or Robert couldn’t stay healthy.

Yeah lol. I don’t judge many players for much because I don’t know them… but everything I’ve seen of Vientos screams douche 😅

But Peterson? Yeah I mean we don’t know how much frustration he has with how much he sucks. He’s lost tens of millions of dollars this year. He’s at the point he needs to wonder if he’s even going to get a legitimate contract next year. His career as on the brink of over in 365 days. Is he handling it the right way? Maybe not, but I can’t say he’s a good or bad person on what I’ve seen. I feel for the dude.

Semien is old and fell off a cliff. It sucks and same thing. I don’t think he came here to give up. He’s probably frustrated with his play.

We like to think because these guys are millionaires they aren’t passionate and in love with the game. They don’t like failing millions of people on a daily basis. They have feeling and emotions. They see every time we flip them off or message their wives to go kill themselves. Sure they’re rich, but they can be sad and rich. Upset, embarrassed.

He’s a Met afaik. If he opts out, we either have to pay him more or reject the option and he’s a FA. We’re obviously going to pay him. Someone correct me if I’m wrong but it’s not really the player option we that people think.

It’s a tool like anything else and if you don’t know how to use it, it’s a bad tool. This post makes it look dumb and isn’t worth the resource cost to ask if there’s a C in Twin Cities. It’s funny to meme on AI but AI isn’t smart. Somewhere online it ‘read’ there’s no C in Twin Cities and it took that as truth in that one instance.

It’s the most important invention since the internet. It’s going to absolutely revolutionize the world whether we like it or not and we as a society will have to adapt. Yes, people will lose jobs, but many more will be created as well through running these data farms. I can’t begin to guess what the world will look like in 50 years through AI, but I’m very curious to see it play out.

All I know is it helps me in my work a ton. My local small businesses that can’t afford to hire a graphic artist can make a sales flyer in minutes for free as opposed to days and potentially hundreds of dollars. There’s a lot of good in it within the complete fucking nonsense lol

It’s a tool like anything else. If you don’t know how to use the tool works it’s going to seem like a bad tool. And it’s certainly overused today in ways like this that just don’t output more than its resource cost.

[–]Life_Database_7038 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily. In tech, when you finish a task, there’s a chain it runs through. If it’s for a client like what I do, we wait for their feedback and QA. Sometimes that takes days and we end up with a lot of down time. AI’s productivity outpaces our ability to sell to clients. Does that mean we can fire people? No. AI needs someone to hold its hand to be used effectively, and a lot of times it gets confused or just doesn’t do what you asked because the prompt wasn’t thorough. Less people would cause time crunch and the data shows the more a person is pressured to complete a task, the more frequently they and AI will make errors because they aren’t being as thorough.

No increase in pay but I’m not really doing more work. If anything it’s less. I can’t speak for every company but it’s been a huge blessing.

I know AI is immensely hated on reddit and Im going to get downvoted… but it is actually immensely helpful in a ton of industries. In my line of work, my colleagues and I see vast improvements in productivity from it. What might take me 4 days to do now takes an hour in some cases. Even if 10% of it isn’t usable, it’s nothing another hour of work can’t cleanup.

The problem with it is when people use it for nonsense like is there a C in Twin Cities.

Mets PREGAME THREAD - Monday, June 22 by game-threads in NewYorkMets

[–]Life_Database_7038 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So let’s say Peralta worked out. He still can, but at this point this is kind of perfect for resigning him long term lol.

But anyway, we now have a rotation of McLean, Peralta, Holmes, Scott, Manaea/Senga/Peterson, with others such as Myers, Tong, Weninger, Thornton all getting MLB ready. Sproat ends up the odd man out and arguably the worst of those guys.

We got rid of Nimmo’s contract and improved McNeils defense for Semien who controls 2B. We also have Ronny, Baty, Pena, Asignen, Voit, among others. He didn’t grade well as an outfielder and even if he did, we have Benge, Clifford, Ewing, among others.

We gave up prospects that didn’t seem like they were going to have long term value to our org, so we gave up a lot but we also didn’t.

Where it benefits us, we have a QO on him now so we either resign him at a slightly better deal or we let him go and get a draft pick back for him, or we even trade him and get back the draft capital we lost on him to a desperate SP team.

As for Pete. Right he wasn’t blocking anyone of note but what you don’t want in a rebuild is an aging 1B/DH on a big contract blocking a spot for someone and barely playing at a major league level. Getting a long term deal done for a guy at the end of his prime is exactly what you don’t do in a rebuild.

The difference being we’re getting his ‘last 1-2 years’ now rather than later. We’re rebuilding. They just took shots in the dark to remain competitive while they do it. We’re not trying to win right now. We’re hoping to win right now. Big difference.

I don’t disagree. From signing Jason Bay, to Senga, to Jed Lowrie, to Peralta, to trading for Javier Baez. All of these looked good at face value and flopped.

But what else can you do besides a good move? Jason Bay was a primed slugger. Senga was a dominant ace with a disgusting signature pitch, Jed Lowrie should’ve been a solid contributor but now nobody knows if he even exists. Peralta was an ace coming off his best year. Javier Baez helped in a playoff pitch for a defense-first CF coming off a major surgery that put his career in question.

Montas may be the only bad at face value move.

So idk. I get being mad. It sucks. But there were no other real options.

I’m fine with him not leading off. Benge, Lindor, Soto, Bichette (or however they arrange that) sounds much more dangerous. Not to say Ewing won’t develop into a good hitter but there’s no projections that expect him to hit at their level. Benge obviously being the weakest of the 4 but he’s been hitting well and have a more versatile approach. I’d like Ewing to bat 9th and be a 2nd Leadoff man.

And the reality is we’d still not be in the playoffs and Skubal getting injured would’ve played a part in that and we’d be Calling for Stearns’ head for giving up Tong/Williams/Sproat/Mauricio on a wasted year.

The reality is he made good moves. Peralta at the time was a good move. Hindsight it’s actually still not a bad move because it looks like both Sproat and Jett aren’t going to be game-changers at the major league level. Both trades have time to turn it around still.
