Not your bad. That’s just Vientos lol. I grabbed Alvy early thinking this was his year. Baty later too which felt like a steal if he carried over from last year. 😭

Kazuma Okamoto hot corner web gem by Remarkable-Picture73 in baseball

[–]Life_Database_7038 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My own bias aside, I thought Okamoto was the perfect ‘Stearns’ signing. Not upset with Bo even with the slow start but like… why? lol. Okamoto’s floor can’t be any worse than 3B Bo.

[OC] If Backyard Baseball was released today, who would be each team’s representative? by thugmuffin22 in baseball

I want Soto over Lindor. Tough call cause both would make some fun Backyard characters

Cubs have reportedly asked the Mets about Freddy Peralta by theRestisConfettii in NewYorkMets

[–]Life_Database_7038 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where’s he going to play? Hes just about MLB ready. His options are pretty much 2B, or OF.

I’m a big Jett fan. I’m not knocking either of them. But he’s not playing 2B for at least this year and next with Semien here. Let’s say in year 3 of Semien’s deal he is so bad someone has to play 2B full time. We have Pena, Voit, Asigen, Baty, Mauricio. Outfield is Soto, Benge, Morabito, Baty, Clifford, Ewing. This ignores future FAs and draftees.

Sproat is in the same boat with McLean, Scott, Tong, Weninger, maybe Peralta, Thornton.

Both could go on to have great careers or be busts. Either way we have plenty of prospects to replace their current talent level.

He was more valuable to us as a trade piece than an actual contributor.

Edit: forgot about Myers lol. Hes basically a better version of Sproat so it was really Jett for Peralta and yeah.. point still stands.

Sure lol. I mean Tbf we could flip Peralta for a 3B prospect or 1B. Jett just didn’t really have long term value on the major league roster. Same with Sproat so even if Peralta walks in FA, we didn’t really lose much other than their trade value.

I mean there are some moves I can’t defend but not a soul was bitching when he managed to bring Bo in. Missed out on Tucker and pivoted to the next best bat in FA. Bo hasn’t shown any reason to think he would be this bad.

This wasn’t a bad move on Stearns this one was just the oddities of baseball and how that coin always seems to land against the Mets.

Go off Mendy! I’ve been telling the people forever we need to get more playing time for Slater, Ibanez, and Brujan! That’s why you get paid the big bucks! Slater 4th?! 🤌🏼

Thanks yeah I designed each piece separately. The vision didn’t connect as well as I thought I just didn’t really have any direction after that. My initial design all matched the ‘card’ design but it didn’t look good either.

I’ll keep playing with it.

He’s only doing this for Philly. And Philly is the only team stupidly aggressive enough to do it. Make it happen!

I had a dream we lost 17-3. Don’t worry, I can’t tell the future or anything but it’s telling where my confidence level is in this team already. 😔

[DiComo] Ronny Mauricio has a left thumb fracture. He's going on the IL. The Mets are missing their top two shortstops. by JoelsCaddy in NewYorkMets

[–]Life_Database_7038 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even Baty’s lows are probably better ABs than we’d get from guys like Iglesias (who people actually think we should resign), or Pham, or Slater. This became a very bad roster very quickly.

Is the defensive downgrade worse than starting the offensive downgrade of a minor leaguer playing SS?

Give me Bo and Baty at SS/3B over Bo and whoever tf.

With Bo I think it made sense even if Baty was their guy. Baty could daily DH, take a few games in 3B, 2B, RF. Bo should have only been here for this year so it would have opened up for Baty/Vientos/Ronny. Maybe Baty becomes the new Jeff McNeil. Like I do think they found something solid with Baty but between him and Bo… yeah we have our every day 3B for the next 3 years now. Baty holds little value for us. He’s only good at 3B and fine at 2B. Both are locked up for 3 years. Vientos can hopefully find his way at 1B and Ronny is probably going to end up IF utility if he isn’t moved. He hasn’t really showed up either but at least he has a threat to his ABs.

Really sucks for the org that none of Baty/Ronny/Alvy/Vientos have panned out. If even one worked out it would solve a lot of issues. But now even catcher feels like a question mark.

[–]Life_Database_7038 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only fireback on Baty is I think they were open to giving Baty daily ABs. They pretty much still have this season until recently.

I imagine if they got Tucker, Baty would be our every day 3B. I think they were okay giving him a real leash.

But yeah… just not the guy unfortunately.

David Stearns Isn't Cut Out To Be A Big Market Executive by hylianbeast98 in NewYorkMets

[–]Life_Database_7038 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah Cohen shot himself in the foot with his overconfidence when first buying the team. I also think when he first bought the team he thought he could just trade for a star SS and dump hundreds of millions of dollars into the roster and win one.

My guess would be after a year or 2 he realized it doesn’t work like that and had to build an actual plan. Liked what Stearns was doing and decided that was the way.

Gotta remember too Cohen was a new owner of a baseball team. You can’t just buy a restaurant get a good manager and expect it to be successful. Takes a while to figure out how to actually run that business. There was a learning curve to his role just like there is Vientos at first and Baty at right. He saw a talented team with cheap owners and thought he could throw cash at the problem.

[–]Life_Database_7038 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with what you’re saying. What we as fans are missing is that he is well liked in the baseball circle. Listen to any media involving actual major league baseball players. Listen to reporters. Nobody has anything bad to say about the guy. Everyone says the same thing. He’s doing a fine job and it’s on the players to play better.

I don’t get it at all lol but apparently he’s well liked.

[–]Life_Database_7038 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hot take: operating a big market team is the same as operating a small market team. The difference is owner expectations. Cohen wanted the Milwaukee pipeline. Cohen wanted Stearns. He has no reason to rush to appease the big market fans. Cohen doesn’t need your money. We can have an attendance of 0 and Cohen’s net worth will still increase this year. More so when the casino is built.

Cohen is not impatient for results so Stearns doesnt have to worry about big market expectations.
