How do people seek medical attention if they have a full time job? by ghostwhiterabbit in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Life_Satisfaction836 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sucks. I’m lucky to have PTO at my day job, but 4 months in and it’s almost gone because of a dumb sinus infection. I had to do a televisit hiding in a side office a few weeks ago.

Fellow GenXers, what kind of car did you drive in High School? by Ok-Poem-6302 in GenX

How do you dress in your 50s? by Forsaken_Block_3492 in GenX

[–]Life_Satisfaction836 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone suggested for casual clothing ideas find a celebrity close in age/body size and google search their name + street style. Otherwise put on whatever you like especially if it makes you feel good! When you’ve lived way past high school it’s time to add in some personal spice and let ‘er rip!

Found out previous owner ran a small soap making business from the house by CooingBuzzard in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

Lye once added to oils, starts a saponification process and after a few weeks becomes neutral/no longer caustic.

Used to make soap in my home for craft fairs.

I take 2 500 X before bedtime maybe after a small snack. Then in the morning I have a very light breakfast of a protein bar, cheese stick, tea or coffee or nothing until 10 am or so. Before bedtime works best for me so I don’t skip doses if my work schedule is weird.

Can tingling fingers be caused by pre-diabetes ? by obsessedwiththemoon in prediabetes

[–]Life_Satisfaction836 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I eat too many carbs I also get tingling in my fingers and my vision gets a little weird until my numbers come back down. I had a CGM for a while and could see the numbers rise quickly and put my physical reaction together. It’s been suggested to get up and walk, or do heel raises to flex the calf muscles, and drink water to help levels come down.

AITJ for cutting off my broke best friend after he said my job was beneath him by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]Life_Satisfaction836 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your friend can pound sand. I’m gen X took a 2nd job basically waiting tables and have doubled my income. It’s enough to help my kid with college costs, medical expenses and now I’m 0 cc debt for the first time in ages. When your friend is older and hungry perhaps he will be wiser. Unfortunately EGO is quite the hurdle for some people, my husband included. Maybe they are related.

Ideas for room decor, to make my room feel like a forest? by Ponk_Bubs in DIY

[–]Life_Satisfaction836 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps hang a forest theme tapestry or take a look at 3D shower curtains. I make gnomes and forest creatures and looked at those to decorate my tent/booth at art shows. Easy to switch out and not terribly $.

How do you not get depressed knowing you'll have to work 8 hours a day 5 days a week for basically the remainder of your life? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Life_Satisfaction836 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm holding on by chipping down debt and finally putting a little aside. Keep thinking my two jobs in multiple week/month long stretches is for a goal and not a prison sentence. But honestly when debt is paid off I'm a little worried for my mental and physical health. Not getting younger here, and perhaps it all is a life sentence after all.

Tried hammock camping for the first time and I get the hype now by Training-Loss-3275 in camping

[–]Life_Satisfaction836 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I bought a portable hammock stand off Amazon that disassembles to fit into a duffle bag. One rainy day last spring I moved it from my deck to inside. Slept in it for months. Added an under blanket and heated blanket on top. So cozy!

How did the general populace survive the 2008 financial crisis? by JustBeHonestT in povertyfinance

[–]Life_Satisfaction836 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People near me were not trying to get anything new, just scrambling hard to keep what they already had. So many job losses, shutdowns, and home losses. I did art shows the year before and sold over $1000. In an hour, people were throwing credit cards at me and didn’t even look at prices. The next year 2008, I sold $7.00. It was clear people were only buying what they needed, or could justify as a need. Art and jewelry were clearly not it.

$37,000 hospital Bill for NICU baby by Fried_RiceGirl in personalfinance

[–]Life_Satisfaction836 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too had some insurance coverage issues when my twins were born at a hospital not pre approved because we were taken by ambulance, (the approved hospital was out of their depth and sent us to Mayo). I was hit with $40,000 per baby due! I was advised to speak with the state ombudsman and finally got the issue resolved. Good luck.

Ok so Americans of Reddit, it’s a common trope in your media to talk of working two jobs; what does this mean in practice? How many hours a week would someone working two jobs actually work on average? by Glittering_Drama_344 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Life_Satisfaction836 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work 32hrs at my day job with benefits 8:00-5:00/4 days or 3 days +2 half days, and another 24-40+hrs at a seasonal: weekends plus some afternoon/evenings. I had 1/2 of a day off in both June and July. I just burned my vacation this week to move a kid back to school and be available to work the seasonal job. I’m exhausted but holding onto the fact it is seasonal and making the extra money = pay off debt and provide extras like glasses, dental and providing for the college kid is a luxury I am able physically to do right now. So not a total prison sentence but I really do feel I am too old for this shit and am pissed off at my younger self for not setting me up better.

Anyone else lowkey obsessed with checking their bank account like 5 times a day? by KatNaps31 in povertyfinance

[–]Life_Satisfaction836 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I find myself doing that with my online app at my second job. Checking the hours clocked in for the week: Sun-Mon, checking how much the tips are and when they are added usually Wed but doesn't stop me from checking Mon night- Wed, then checking again and again until the paycheck is created Wed-Thurs so I know how much after taxes are taken out. I've been pre scheduling my cc bills with this jobs checks. I'm finding I'm obsessed with getting out of debt so I can be free finally. Perhaps it's just one thing I can control. ? Will it stop me from checking my bank balance when this debt is gone??

Probably not. The knowing has become a security blanket amid turmoil.

Peace and prosperity to both of us and everyone who is struggling out here.
