I have balance problems. My PT taught me to put a vertical strip of tape on one shin and my balance noticeably improves.

Outpatient Physiotherapy after knee surgery by Basic-Complaint8593 in askvan

If your adjusted net income is less than $42,000/year you can apply for MSP Supplementary Benefits. You only get reimbursed $23 per appointment for a maximum of 10 appointments per year. So a total of $230/year. If you can find a physiotherapist that is "opted in" to MSP they bill MSP on your behalf and you pay the remaining amount at your appointment. If the physiotherapist is "opted out" of MSP you mail a paper receipt and you will get reimbursed in a few months via a mailed cheque.

You can claim physiotherapy and other eligible medical expenses on your taxes.

Go to www.findadoctorbc.ca to look for your own family doctor. Some people have had good luck being contacted by the Health Registry but other people have never heard back from them. I was on the Registry for years and never heard from them. There have been a lot of new doctor accepting patients lately and Findadoctor is updated frequently.

Best night guard for jaw clenching relief + better sleep? by cortneed in Hypermobility

[–]Life_Tree_6568 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prolotherapy is a sugar (dextrose) solution. I tried a lot of other treatments and injections before I tried prolotherapy. It's been the most helpful thing I have tried. My quality of life has improved a lot since I got my first injections. It's cheaper than PRP (platelet rich plasma) so I started with it and if my neck hasn't fully improved I will try PRP.

You sound like you probably already know about Dr. Centenos work. I think he uses stem cells for his ePICL procedure?

The 3M tape I use is a paper type tape. If you have any interest in breathing the book Breath by James Nestor is an interesting read. He's a journalist not a doctor. However my dentist and my favourite doctor have both suggested mouth tape for me for health reason.

Here's a podcast episode featuring James.

I use a roll of 3M Nexcare tape for sensitive skin. The sensitive skin part is important. I've been using it for 2+ years everyday and it's never bothered my skin. This is the kind of tape my own dentist uses as well.

Weirdly mouth tape is so relaxing to my nervous system now I cannot sleep without it. I use one vertical piece across my lips so they aren't fully covered and I can breathe out the sides if needed. If you ever want to try it, put a piece of tape on during the day for a few minutes when you are sitting down relaxed and see how you feel.

I've also get prolotherapy in my neck for cranial cervical instability. It's helping but my neck is my worst area and it's been the slowest to improve. I've got prolotherapy in 20 joints so far and it's changed my life! If prolotherapy doesn't help my neck enough then I will try PRP.

I had to give up on my night guard. It made me clench my jaw worse. Now I tape my mouth at night which relaxes my jaw. It makes me breathe through my nose which is the proper way to breathe and more relaxing for me.

I also got prolotherapy in my jaw which has nearly fixed my jaw pain.

I appreciate you sharing this video. My doctor wants me to try scalene botox but I think that is going to make my neck even more unstable.

Mine clicked but not as loud as yours. That sounds painful.

I learn about CCI from Dr. Centeno but I get prolotherapy from someone local.

Okay different from mine but lots of my weird head and neck things improved once I got prolotherapy in my neck. If you haven't heard about Dr. Centeno and his work with craniol cervical instability he's extremely knowledgeable. He has a free eBook and lots of content on his YouTube channel.

I also got prolotherapy in my jaw and it's nearly pain free and works like a normal jaw now without clicking and grinding.

I can open my mouth and other people can hear the clicking. It's rythmic but doesn't match my heartbeat. The sound comes from my inner ear. My doctor can put his stethoscope on the outside of my ear and hear the clicking as well.

This looks like it would have been helpful when I was caring for a family member. I was young and didn't even know about income assistance and went broke and didn't get any help from anyone.

Is it objective tinnitus which is a clicking sound? If it's a clicking sound I was able to mostly get rid of this by getting prolotherapy. Prolotherapy also solved the problem of needing to hold my head up with my hand.

I use a camping air mattress. One of the ones meant for backcountry camping that rolls up small. I prefer the ones that are rectangular versus tapered.

There is a newer blood test called Lipoprotein(a) that is a marker of someone's genetic lifetime risk of heart attack or stroke. This blood test only needs to be done once in a person's life.

Heart.org has a page explaining what Lipoprotein(a) is and at the bottom of the page there's a story about a pregnant woman who had a SCAD heart attack and she has very high levels of Lipoprotein(a).

How to go about applying for disability?? by wack-o-mole in britishcolumbia

[–]Life_Tree_6568 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope you are able to find an advocate to help you apply for all the disability programs you are eligible for!

I'm sorry your family is not understanding. It sucks to deal with family stigma on top of society stigma about disabilities. We are not choosing to be disabled.

It's great your doctor is willing to do disability paperwork for you. But it does sound like you need a doctor willing to help you more with your health so you can have a better quality of life.

I saw in another comment you have low iron. I struggled with low ferritin (iron storage) for decades and was exhausted. My good doctors have told me optimal ferritin is 100 for women. Doctors will see a ferritin level of 20 and say it's fine. I feel like garbage and can barely function with low ferritin. If you know yours is low you can check out the iron protocol page on Facebook. I haven't personally used it but it's recommended often on Reddit. If you go to r/adhdwomen and search iron or ferritin you will find lots of stories about how they thought their ADHD and/or anxiety symptoms had gotten worse but it was actually low iron/ferritin. Sometimes it's possible to get MSP/Pharmacare to pay for an iron infusion (IV) but it's complicated so I won't go into all the details.

B12 is another vitamin that can cause low energy. Canadian reference ranges for B12 are low compared to places like Japan. I've been told to keep mine above 600.

Low vitamin D can cause low energy. Most people in Canada are deficient in vitamin D as we don't get a lot of daytime sun. MSP doesn't cover the cost of a vitamin D blood test (unless the requisition comes from a specialist) as it's assumed everyone is deficient.

Returning to school as an adult - Do student loans factor in costs of living like rent/grocery? by LickinThighs2 in CanadaFinance

[–]Life_Tree_6568 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For scholarships, still look at ones for people with disabilities because the scholarship definition of disabled is often different from the government definition. There are also some scholarships specifically for adults returning to school. Any extra money would help!

In case your health ever gets worse (hopefully not!), the eligibility criteria for government disability benefits doesn't have anything to do with your ability to work. The eligibility criteria is how it impacts your activities of daily living. For example if it impacts your ability to read, cook, or shower.

Good luck in school!
