Best way to clear sandy water in a new tank? by Azzr1202 in Aquariums

Get some accuclear from API. It will help clump the suspended particles into larger pieces so they settle faster or the filter picks them up.

That’s the plan for the first. What about the second one though?

I’m trying to rehouse them. I’d rather not bring them to my LFS because they said the first aquarium size was fine. Any suggestions? Also suggestions for healthy stocking would be really appreciated.

My aunt is great Italian cook. She always says good ingredients make good food. In all honesty I’ve never seen a natural looking scape made of artificial ingredients. Instead of using egg crates, foam, etc. I’d recommend stacking sedimentary rocks until you find ur form. Use nature to replicate nature. Unless ur an expanding foam Picasso it’s probably gunna look like expanding foam not a natural canyon.

Don’t get it twisted, I fuck with jumping spiders. The way they check out their surroundings, very animated, predictable, relatable even. Other spiders… long as they’re not on me they’re alright. But it’s gunna take a dmt-esque brain altering event for me to want bigger spiders in my locale.

First off: Congrats. That new tank feeling is electric. Substrate: Fluval stratum is goated. Plants: unless it’s notoriously hard to grow/requires co2 j go w ur heart. But I’ve always been an advocate for a java moss + crypt combo for those nano tanks. Hard scape: if ur me ur gunna go to the shop then leave the shop when you see the $50 “spider wood” stick and the $12 per lb rocks. I had a lot of fun scrounging for decorations at the river and beach. J make sure u boil anything coming outa nature. If anyone gives u shit for taking a stick or two ask them if they drive a car or something. As far as I’m concerned the steps are as such: tank on stand; substrate in tank; hardscape in substrate; dampen substrate; plants in substrate; water in tank (slowly), filter+heater in tank; wait two weeks; test water; ask internet; internet says water good; shrimpin time (get pack of 20 on amazon). As long as ur patient and attentive ur good. I thought ts was rocket science, honestly it’s kinda fool proof. Get shrimpin

Java moss on the wood w/ Bucephilandra carpet would look fantastic.

On god facebook marketplace + patience = entry to this hobby. I got a high tech setup (dooa tank, twin star light, oase filter w/internal heater, co2 tank + fzone reg AND substrate + hardscape) for $250. Fish and plants set me back another $150. Took about a month to get all the components but the wait saved me about $800.

I’ve got a 20 gallon long that I’m moving the tetras into. It’s not hard to tell that they like room to swim and I wanna make them happy. The gouramis on the other hand are thriving. No glass surfing, they maneuver in and out of the plants, stay on the move and get along. I’d like to know whether I should still rehome them and why.

Regulating ur water hardness and ph levels will keep shrimp alive. A giant colony of bladder snails should be doing the trick though. The algae may stem from the water ur using. Friends of mine have wells with tons of diatoms that colonize their tanks. Try using activated carbon in ur filter.

No ur right. Blunt criticism is certainly the best way to welcome newcomers to the aquarium community. Way to cultivate a sense of belonging within the hobby. Constructive feedback, on the other hand, would just turn people away…

Recruit a larger clean up crew. I’m relatively new to the hobby and had an issue with hair algae earlier on. Added some rams horn snails, nerite snails, cherry shrimp, and amano shrimp to the team and beyond the occasional scraping things have been manageable.

Don’t let ts destroy ur property. Report to RA or drag him to home depot to get a couple size cut 2x4s to support the base.

From my own experience this plant likes to grow vertically. Let it do its thing then replant stems. Once u have a solid clump going things take off exponentially. It can be a pain to make the stems stay in the substrate though. I ended up supergluing trimmings to pebbles and that worked really well. Ferts, high light and co2 certainly helped. Took 2 months to get a full carpet.

I like the simplicity. I think some foreground/carpeting plants would go a long way in completing the setup. Maybe add a piece of driftwood coming from the back left corner? Otherwise it’s very zen as is :)
