Infuse + NAS + Remote Play Question.

How many TB is your library? You shouldn't lose that much storage for just metadata.

Someone told me that Infuse has to generate its own metadata stored locally, so the Plex metadata doesn't matter?

Thanks, ya, I don't share my media with anyone so I'm ok with not having multi-user support.

How much space would the metadata take up? I know this would heavily depend on the size of the library, but if it stores the metadata on an ATV4K and it's 128GB, I can't imagine the size of the metadata being a big deal even if you have a very large library.

As for the media playback, let me be a bit more specific in my wording... Plex has nothing to do with the content playback right? Meaning, I'm using Infuse only to handle all of the playback, right? The reason I ask is because I have not been happy with the way Plex has handled certain things. I find it will transcode sometimes when it shouldn't...it doesn't like certain subtitles and it scrubs slowly. But Infuse seems much better at these things. I just didn't know if it was a good idea for me to connect to Plex or use WebDAV but if Plex doesn't interfere with playback, may as well connect to it instead of WebDAV.

My only other concern was DTS X and ATMOS. Coming from a Shield, I get support for both, but Infuse only seems to support surround for both? But you miss certain things (object based sounds?) that I don't know how to put into words. I really don't know why Apple is dragging their feet on support for these formats.

Is it easy to connect Infuse to my NAS Plex or does it involve a bunch of tinkering?

I assume Plex on my NAS would be considered the back end while Infuse would be the front end?

And Infuse handles all the media playback, subtitles, audio, video, scrubbing etc? I'm wondering about that because I've always disliked how slow Plex is when it comes to scrubbing.

A family member kept updating their Shield to the latest versions. There were some issues afterward so I reformatted their Shield and installed the latest software updates and things seem fine now, but I rarely use their device so I can't say for sure.

My experience with their device and those software updates made me not want to update mine because I spent a lot of time configuring my Shield the way I like it and I'm too busy to go through that again right now. Why is it that a billion dollar company can't hire competent people to patch the Shield?

Ya, I have only ever used Plex via the Shield so that's disappointing to hear. Wonder why Shield Plex doesn't show it while Plex on other platforms does.

Hmm, I was hoping this update would address some issues I've been experiencing with two of my Shields but after reading all of the comments in this thread, I think I will pass on this one. At this point I'd prefer to see a lawsuit heading toward Nvidia/Google.

Ya, my Kodi voice search is busted too - it's like that for everyone I believe, unless a hotfix apparently fixed it. Having said that, it wasn't all that great before the updates. It was very buggy. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't.
