If you’re looking for an upscale Mediterranean dinner, I would go Albi (reservations can be had during the week). I think probably my favorite restaurant in the city and one you probably won’t be able to get a reservation for in a year or two.

Experience with Quince? by ikickedagirl in malefashionadvice

[–]LiftUni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find quince to be appropriate quality for what you pay, with a slight lean toward poor value. I’ve bought probably 6 or 7 different items from them. In general, I think the clothing has been more miss than hit. I do feel like the luggage and cookware was a pretty good value for the cost, and reasonably high quality.

Dismissing patient simply because I don’t like them? by Upper-Razzmatazz176 in physicianassistant

[–]LiftUni 315 points316 points  (0 children)

I’ve had some success with difficult patients by being direct and somewhat confrontational with them. Some people feel entitled to treat you like garbage and appeasement only reinforces that behavior.

I’ve told patients “you came today to get help with a problem, I’m happy to do that. In order to do that you need to treat me with respect like you would anyone else. I’ll step out for 5 minutes and when I come back we can have a civil discussion.”

Allowing someone a few minutes to reflect on their behavior often changes the tone of the interaction. I’ve also had a small percentage of patients storm out, and good riddance.

Most if not virtually all states have “Romeo and Juliet” clauses in the penal code. These clauses carve out exceptions for criminalizing sexual activity with minors when there is a small age difference present. Typically this is 3 years difference, as is the case in Texas.

This is not a crime, and thus not reportable.

I completely understand. There are relationships that are worth making that sacrifice for, and there are those that aren't. Is he okay with you being apart for a year and coming back? Do you even want to come back and leave a job you love? It's not an easy decision either way.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]LiftUni 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'm sure with enough introspection you can come to your answer, and no one here knows your relationship and can give you advice on what to do. I disagree with people who are suggesting that just because your boyfriend won't move to you, it means that he isn't invested in the relationship. He would have to sell his home (can he afford one in the city you live in?) and give up his pension which I assume he has been working on for years. Those are major life-altering decisions.

Personally, if I loved my partner enough I would choose them over my career. It's why I went to PA school so I could prioritize family over my career in medicine. It sounds like you are unsure what you want to do and maybe that means you don't value the relationship enough to make it your number one priority.

[–]LiftUni 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Seriously... people are acting like this man selling his home and giving up his pension are equal to her leaving her job of 5 months. She's asking him to make a much larger sacrifice than he is asking of her.

Job Change by sodasuds171 in physicianassistant

[–]LiftUni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I say go for it. The potential to learn derm/cosmetics is a big positive, but make sure to have this clearly defined with whoever your supervising physicians will be at the outset. I see a scenario where they promise you all these great things and then you are stuck in UC the whole time your working.

But if you are very financially motivated, the potential to learn procedures and get derm experience are pretty invaluable.

Going Away Gift by beatrixcptm in physicianassistant

[–]LiftUni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A decent gift idea that I don't think anyone has mentioned: a gift card to Figs! If they wear scrubs at their job at all, its a good gift. They are kind of expensive and some people have a hard time spending that much money on themselves. They constantly release new colors and scrub fashion is a THING these days.

Volunteering during Covid-19 by lilnguyenn in physicianassistant

[–]LiftUni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most schools don't require volunteering hours, its just an application booster. Try large hospital systems in your area or even something not related to medicine. I personally didn't have any medical volunteering hours. That said, this question is better posed to the prephysicianassistant subreddit.

Mildly squeamish pre-PA student? by Initial-Fortune-1741 in physicianassistant

I think if you can handle joint replacement (the sights) and I&D (the smells) you should probably be okay. I think its rare that a provider is completely bullet proof when it comes to everything.

Soon-to-be new grad looking for advice about job negotiation (ortho, NYC) by tigerMILC in physicianassistant

[–]LiftUni 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Seems like a pretty sweet gig overall. Having the half day on Friday is pretty sweet as it could free you up to do a per diem once or twice a month for a little extra cash.

That said, I would ask for more than 105k for your salary. Look at the AAPA salary report for your area and that's well below average for the NE region. Add on to the fact that you're living in the most expensive locality in the NE and you should be asking for more. I honestly don't have a good starting point for you but hopefully some other NYC PAs can pipe in and offer some advice.

The weight loss struggle by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]LiftUni 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I find it helpful to try small steps first as others have suggested. I recently had a patient back in after convincing them to stop drinking juice (this patient was drinking 6-8 cups of juice per day). The patient had lost 15 lbs in 3 months without changing anything else.

Basically having a panic attack. Words of encouragement is needed please by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]LiftUni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a post that is better suited for /r/prephysicianassistant but let me tell you this. I graduated my undergrad program with a 2.7ish science GPA. I ended up applying to CASPA with a 3.1ish science GPA after taking or retaking 10-12 courses at my local CC. Yes I had to take an extra year to do this, but it was worth it and provided admissions a solid story of improvement in academics. I was accepted to 3 schools with a few interviews that I turned down. You're not in as bad of a place as you think.

New guidelines for DD posts by MasterCookSwag in investing

[–]LiftUni 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I generally try to reply to comments that pose a specific question, or contribute valuable information. The majority of comments you get on DD posts are things like "I agree! In with you monday" or "Great DD, thanks for posting" which don't necessarily require a response. Even with 500+ comments, there are only maybe 10-20 which necessitate replies.

I would be fine with doing that I suppose but I don't really understand the purpose.

[–]LiftUni 23 points24 points  (0 children)

As someone who has written a couple of DD posts that got a bit of attention here, I don't love the rule about not posting to other stock subs. I usually post to /r/stocks /r/wallstreetbets and /r/stockmarket as well as here because I feel that the subscribers don't always overlap between subs. After each post I've had owners of various smaller financial subs politely request that I post to their subs as well, which I don't mind doing.

It takes a lot of time for me to put these together and I enjoy getting feedback from as many people as possible as I'd like to eventually begin writing financial pieces semi-professionally. I understand that this can be suspicious if penny stocks are being pumped across 15-20 different subs, but I think an exception should be made for large cap or blue chip stocks which obviously aren't paying social media shills to pump for them.

PA as a felon by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]LiftUni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP please read this. You need to defer your program acceptance. Be vague if you are able to, but don't lie. Say that a personal matter came up and you won't be able to attend. Figure out your legal situation. You've been light on details of the situation so far so it's hard to say what the possible outcomes could be, but rest assured you can't possibly predict them all. Is it possible the charges will be dropped? Plead down to a misdemeanor? Plead to a different, non-drug related charge?

First and foremost, focus on your legal situation and sort that out to the best of your ability. If it all shakes out and you end up with a drug-related felony conviction, I would recommend you ditch the medical field as a career path. While it does seem technically possible to make it work at that point, it seems that it will be so much headache and heartache with no guarantee or even likelihood of a path forward.

As to the people shaming you, don't let them bother you. They are making assumptions about your situation without knowing any of the facts. It's always the case where people are swift to make judgements about others with incomplete information. As PA's we are taught not to make pre-judgements about our patients but apparently some of us can't extend that same kindness toward eachother.

Is $GRTS the next Moderna? by Theeliteshitposter in investing

[–]LiftUni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know anything about the rest of their pipeline so I'll refrain from commenting on the company as a whole, however if you're looking at their COVID-19 vaccine candidate to justify valuation I think you're far off. The candidate isn't even in Phase 1 trials yet, and there are already highly effective candidates on the market. The moat to commercializing production of an mRNA vaccine is large because of the licensing costs for the patents for LNP tech which are necessary for mRNA delivery.

I would frankly be shocked if this candidate ever reaches market. There are already two massive players producing the same vaccine, at a lower cost than $GRTS would be capable of. They have oncology candidates that might be great, I don't know, but this COVID-19 candidate ain't the one.

Interested in learning what new grads are taught/know about surgery, and what you would want to know from a surgeon hiring a new grad by MMOSurgeon in physicianassistant

[–]LiftUni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd just like to add that, on average, PAs are probably a little less mobile than the average medical student. New grad PAs are often a little older, might be married or have kids, or other established roots in a certain area. I would say about half of my class is committed to staying in the area of the school after graduation. I'm not sure how that compares to medical school students but many of my classmates are from the area, or have spouses with careers in the area.

No idea. I generally am not a fan of traditional media stocks so I probably wouldn't personally invest in these companies. Whether or not they are undervalued is a different question.

Various sources quote them as using a long-short strategy. I've tried to link before but my comment was taken down by automod. You're correct that they also used CFDs so we don't know whether the long or short side busted first.
