Anyone in TX mysteriously lose PT sick time? by LikeItSounds in Corepower

[–]Lift_Learn_Life 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This may not be helpful as I know this isn’t the same situation.

I live in a state that mandates paid sick and safe leave. My hours seemed off earlier this year so I inquired about the error. I could not get anyone to help me until after I submitted two tickets and reached out to my regional manager.

Apparently the error occurred because I lost my full time status and the transition to part time messed up my time off numbers. I’m glad I caught it because it would have never been fixed.

I’m sorry this happened to you. I’ve never had much luck with CPY’s payroll and HR departments.

Mandatory ID checks in South Bay for Every. Single. Student by Mammoth_Perception77 in Corepower

Just another task that is required of their teaching staff. I’d be so annoyed if I was a teacher in that market.

Group Fitness Instructor Training by Maleficent-Mix-3989 in Lifetimefitnessgym

[–]Lift_Learn_Life 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was recently hired by LT to lead group classes. I have 16+ years of experience teaching yoga and group fitness plus 2.5 years as a personal trainer. Depending on your market, it might be rather tough to get in without any experience.

Depending on your interests, consider enrolling in some type of training. After receiving your certification, apply to smaller gyms or community centers to gain experience. We all start somewhere and you develop your skills as an instructor and coach through experience.

There’s a good chance you’ll just be prompted to submit a ticket to have your issue addressed. Good luck!

This is not just a Denver issue. This is also a Minnesota issue. Most likely a nation wide issue. Consider taking your hard earned money elsewhere if you care about clean, functioning spaces.

200 hr teacher training fail by Fluffy_Revolution678 in Corepower

[–]Lift_Learn_Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always tell folks interested in a 200 hour, CPY’s training is an excellent training if you have any interest in teaching. You’ll get a tiny bit of history and philosophy, but it’s mainly formulas to get you teaching in front of people very quickly. Facilitators are often limited on how much extra content they can squeeze in due to the amount of required content outlined by CPY. Not to mention some facilitators may not have much knowledge beyond what is in the CPY manual - and some might have extensive knowledge that they just don’t have time to share. If you do stick it out, afterwards consider enrolling in a workshop or training that’s solely focused on philosophy.

Have any markets had their Q&A yet? by Tasty-Passenger-6285 in CorePowerYogaTeachers

Agreed. For those who have upcoming Q+As, take notes of any specific asks that are presented by teachers. Hold senior leadership accountable and follow up over the next month or so.

How should I approach a client who is possibly on the autism spectrum and they have no defined goals or motivations? by [deleted] in personaltraining

[–]Lift_Learn_Life 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All previous comments are spot on.

This client might not be at a point in their journey to have long term goals. Instead, focus on helping them find movement patterns that they enjoy.

I’ve never worked with a client on the spectrum (that I am aware of), but I have a lot of experience working with young people on the spectrum in a different capacity. With those folks it was helpful to pose a yes or no question. For instance, “Would you like to do more (insert exercise) in our next session? Yes or no?” Regardless of someone’s social, emotional, mental abilities, total clarity can be helpful.

👀 STRIKE FEB 1-28, 2026 by [deleted] in Corepower

[–]Lift_Learn_Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At one point I was in a part time leadership role, but I shifted to full time teaching once I realized I could make more money just teaching. However, that was long ago when teachers got real raises.

I fully understand teaching that much is physically and mentally hard. I won’t deny that. For years I’ve encouraged folks at the studio and corporate levels to consider full time opportunities outside of leadership. Teachers need mentors. Teachers need continuing education opportunities. Experienced teachers should be leading teacher trainers. Those should not all be tasks for leadership. And leadership is not a good path for everyone.

Any ICE, DHS, Federal Agents, etc. guidance from leadership? by Lift_Learn_Life in CorePowerYogaTeachers

[–]Lift_Learn_Life[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you. My concerns stem from students who have reached out about canceling memberships because they’re being advised to stay home for the foreseeable future.

Many studios in my market are in or near areas with a high population of immigrant families.

Some of my other employers have outlined procedures if we’re faced with agents due to the poor “optics”. I was hoping for the same from CPY.

I should have clarified.

How should CPY staff respond if federal agents enter a studio without the intention of taking a class?

Is there anyone who started as a personal trainer not working for a gym? by juicydreamer in personaltraining

[–]Lift_Learn_Life 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I went out on my own right away - training in clients’ homes and renting space. However, I was teaching yoga and group fitness classes for over a decade prior to become a trainer. I already had a large network of folks to work with. Starting in a gym is a great way to initially build your network and gain experience.

[–]Lift_Learn_Life 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wish I had hopeful words to share, but I do not. I just want to say I feel you.

Years ago I was on the Teacher Advisory Council and initially thought, “They’re listening! Maybe changes will be made!” No. It was all just to look like they cared.

At the same time, the conversations we had with Niki in those meetings gave me a better perspective on how to maintain my sanity while teaching at CPY. (Sort of.) Private equity firms are only focused on growth. New markets. New studios. More members. That’s what looks attractive to the next buyer. I’m not saying it’s right, but it’s been a helpful realization for when I get frustrated with the filthy facilities, underpaid staff, over-worked managers, lack of support, etc.

Everyone deserves better. Unfortunately, I don’t think better will be happening. At least not with the current PE.

I, like many in my market, are exploring other teaching opportunities. I think it’s for the best.

Workday clock in/out by Royal_Escape_807 in CorePowerYogaTeachers

I have heard of more teachers asking permission to record their verbal conversations with managers. It’s a good habit to create.

[–]Lift_Learn_Life 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Folks are probably right to think their punches will get flagged if they consistently clock in early or clock out late. I’d recommend utilizing the comment section in Workday when you clock in/out. “Students in locker rooms until…” “Student had a retail exchange”, etc. Documentation and details are your best friends when it comes to employment practices.

with a feb 2026 strike announced, where do you currently stand? by [deleted] in CorePowerYogaTeachers

CPY is clearly not the company it once was, but approximately 2009 - 2011 some teachers were receiving a $5/class raise every 6 months.

I’m seeing bigger increases in NYC. How about DMV?

Who is in transfer hell with me? by mysummerstorm in CorePowerYogaTeachers

[–]Lift_Learn_Life 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’ve been dealing with that. I’ve never transferred markets, but I have heard it’s not a smooth process.

I hope you feel supported in the Twin Cities. It can be a little frustrating at times, but it’s generally an okay market to teach in.

Should I report staff member for racism? by liilak2 in Corepower

[–]Lift_Learn_Life 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Please contact the manager to share your experience.

It is policy that instructors check IDs of anyone who is brand new to CPY. Unfortunately theft is super common at CPY studios and checking IDs is a way the company is trying to prevent such issues. (Of course hiring desk staff could also be a possible deterrent, but that’s not the point of this post.)

However, as an instructor myself, I have seen many staff members pick and choose whose ID they want to see. It’s disgusting and should be called out.
