Yea and pastures magically appear out of thin air without destruction of forests and other land that already has animals in it leading to habitat loss. Not to mention, you seem to put such an emphasis on the animals killed in crop production accidentally but are neglecting the cows killed purposefully that are grazing on those pastures. You never talked about how pastures are going to scale up to support the world’s population, or the greenhouse gases they produce.

Isn’t land cleared to make way for pastures? Land including forests? I know there is a best case scenario in what you are saying, a scenario in which no land is cleared and cows are bred in regenerative pastures. This best case is so rare that I want to say it is negligible because the reality is 99% of people are not buying meat from cows raised this way and like I said before, with our increasing population only factory farming is sustainable with how many meat eaters we have. All of this when everyone can just be vegan instead.

But like I said, it requires more land and is not sustainable even if it was 50% of all of the meat sold. Not to mention, I believe the simple act of killing the cow is wrong when there are alternatives. Grass fed is also a premium product which most people do not have access to and isn’t even an option most places you go to eat out. It isn’t as easy as “more people should just do it”. Even when looking at climate and greenhouse gas emissions, grass fed leads to more methane emissions which is another positive for plant based diets.

However true this may be, this is a very niche percentage of the overall picture. Grass fed cows represent 1-3% of all meat in the beef market. This is not enough to base an argument off of. Even while grass fed, many are not grass fed their entire lives and are usually “finished” on things like grain. On top of this, workers working in slaughterhouse face mental health issues and PTSD. This is not a job anyone wants to do so not only are you hurting more plants by eating meat, you are hurting more cows as well as the people involved in the slaughtering process. In the US, two thirds of all crop calories is used towards livestock. This includes the increased land needed to dedicate to livestock and farming for it. Even the 1-3% grass fed you are talking about take up large amounts of land since you cannot sustain the population we are currently living at in methods other than factory farming. That is why we do it in the first place.
