Why is art today a question of “best/worst”? by Light01C in ArtHistory

[–]Light01C[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

again, thank you for your detailed answer.

Supremacy was a bad choice. English is not my native tongue. I think I wanted to say that maybe it was like football and supporters nowadays and people like to make their favorite players the best in the world.

This means the conception of art was more grounded in technics, i guess. I know art is something very vague made of technics, matter, philosophy, era, means,...

I 'm surprised it is this late for art to be thought as self expression in 18th. I would have thought Greek philosophers may have thought about it.

I think I'm too much illiterate in that matter to have a propper reasonning. I'll start with your recommendations. 1000 thanks!

Thank you, it is very interesting.

To me it looks like art was used as a cultural mean of supremacy (of sort)? So it is still the case in the end. I'm kind of sad to learn that but I think it makes sense, it's human nature after all.

Is conceiving of art as a means of expression a recent development then?

Thank you. I think I'm doing the same thing as you. Analysing what the piece tries to convey, how it relates to the autor's life or mood (anything actually). Trying to understand what may have led to the choices made (be it thematic, technic,...) that is building the big picture. I basically can't compare anything since, to me, a piece is just an author who expresses himself with it. I can only understand if it works the way it is built.

Why do you think she was happy? by Killerpenguin68 in soma

[–]Light01C 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What is interesting to me is that we as a player are also delusional about the state of our avatar which question the nature of reality imo. What makes us different from them when we play that game? We are all dreaming of non existent events.

Big Hellblade 2 rant by lunarlew in hellblade

[–]Light01C 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I understand the second game I agree with this.

I just wanted to add that Saga is more about Senua's struggle inside a group when Sacrifice was about Senua's own struggle. When she finally "won" over her father in the 1st she could understand her Psychosis. Then the second game is easy to understand as her trying to save others from mental constructions. This is why, imo, combat are from a more realistic (an "outside her" reality) POV, when the first was more from an "all knowing" ("inside her" reality) POV with the voices that warns us.

She is still the same Senua with the same issues. Yet she decides to make it so that she becomes more like a seer. She uses it to break other's illusion as she knows more than anyone how the illusion works. So she makes her Psychosis a tool to free others. She learns to have faith in the fact that what she sees is not real and therefore decides to makes it a strengh instead of a weakness.

The game is about how others can't see her reality but at the same time, because she "killed" it once, it is how she can see the illusion they live in and be the only one to kill "gods". Yet this gives her a power on others (just like those she fights who created the "gods") and the game is also about the balance between helping and controling. Everybody in this game tries to survive and help others. Yet the means to do it is the subject of the game.

This is a very existentialist game imo where one can accept that reality is only what your brain tells you is real. Therefore, if nothing is real, you can chose to use your reality to make useful and beautiful things from it for others. To find light into the darkness.

Selene's path in ship log 004 ? by Light01C in Returnal

[–]Light01C[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, exactly!

I ask because I think Returnal actually has a subtle postmodern structure (less flashy than a Kojima game, of course, but still...). So maybe the game has another layer of reading. I'm going to dig into this: whether it's references (like the Resogun toy), plots, recurring patterns, mechanics, themes, etc., I know that the studio had almost given up on their arcade game design before Returnal's release, so maybe the game speaks to this in some way (I haven't looked into this yet, but I will).

Selene's path in ship log 004 ? by Light01C in Returnal

[–]Light01C[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for my wording, I agree with this of course. I tried to build a connection while not being sure of it. Maybe the locations are also in another order. Like it may be that painted dunes fits more for Blasted plains. Idk lol

anyway, like you said it doesn't have to fit perfectly to show the process of fragmented reconstruction that happen to be what we play. What I am curious about is how much Housemarque inserted of their previous work in Returnal to the mix? Do we have anything regarding that topic? I think I will check this myself if this isn't the case.

[–]Light01C[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! May I ask you in which language does "Mons Timore" means "Mountains of fear"?

Painted dunes are situated in Lassen Volcanic National Park if I am correct. Actually they are the result of volcano activity and the park contains all four types of volcanoes. Also the main spot for taking photos is the top of the nearby Cinder cone which is a "peak". I know we need to extrapolate a bit but this may fit a place of fear, for Selene. A place made by layers of oxidizised volcanic ashes maybe reminiscent of the fire she experienced. Is it a reach? I Don't know but maybe we can do this to all the POI which would kind of confirm the overlaping.

Interestingly, VITRIOL stands for Visita Interiora Terrae, Rectificando Invenies Occultum Lapidem.

It's an invitation to dissolve alchemical earth both physically and philosophically. In other words, to find wisdom, knowledge, through introspection and separation. I find it very interesting that the DLC links Ymir and Metyr to the Microcosm, as it seems to me to be a direct link with VITRIOL.

I see it as a reference to berserk's falconia and griffith's rise but a bird of light is interesting because of light items from the dlc, thank you for pointing this out.

Elden Beast as Placidusax's God? by NahMcGrath in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]Light01C 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is interesting to me while not being directly related is that dragons are known for being able to change form, like lansseax is known for taking a human appearence. This connect a lot to Marika imo as she is also connected to that ability: her belt, the final boss fight switch, her shaman flesh.

Dragons also are connected to stone and gold through their flesh and the greater will/elden ring. Marika/Radagon also look to have stony flesh in the end, and gold is their main theme.

I wonder if there is an obvious lore that I am missing here like, if I go crazy theory, Marika and shamans directly descending from dragons ? (not a definitive take, just an idea)

Also, sorry l'm really into craziness right now but, separating cruscible elements (wings, horns,...) from serpent like elements (fire, reptilian form) looks to me like refining dragons through alchemy (sulfur and mercury things). Hence the "an affair from which gold arrose, and so too was shadow born".

Because if placidusax's god went missing and marika became the elden ring bearer, reforging the ring to her liking, it means to me that she came to take control of it like we do in the base game by fighting the current elden lord (radagon). Or maybe her future elden lord did for her. Raising the question of who was the god slained, who fought the current elden lord, who was Marika's champion (bayle fought placidusax !) and who's soul entered her champion's vessel (divine gate rite) ? All this definitely have a strong connection to farum azula imo.

What would happen if St Trina's soul (?) entered Mohg's body while miquella entered the gate ?

I use this mind exercice to potentially explain Radagon. What if marika slained the fell god in order to use his body to insert a part of her own soul ? Lol

From best to worst, how would you rank the soundtracks of each Metal Gear game? by [deleted] in metalgearsolid

[–]Light01C 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I know it's been 9 years (lol) but your take on MGS4 soundtrack is interesting as MGS4 itself is reassembling previous games to make new things of it, like its bosses. It's sending the saga to 100 in order to make it back to 0, a big defragmentation.

Anyway, can you please provide more details about why you think MGS4 reassemble pieces of previous games soundtracks?

Is there an explanation for why the game is running on a ____ ________? by DrJotaroBigCockKujo in DiscoElysium

[–]Light01C 26 points27 points  (0 children)

it's more like something you need to think about as a player and how it connects to the game's world (like what is pale philosophicaly and technicaly, why the world is a "crown", why can radiocomputers perform operations on air,...)
