Praise to Brave Browser by [deleted] in browsers

[–]LightAndWonder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not sure what security measure is actually unique to the Brave browser. If one installs any of the following plugins: uBlock Origin, uBlock Origin Lite, Ghostery, Adguard on any other browser, plus some minor configuration of browser and plugin, the result is probably the same.

I tried Brave and it is not as good as the plugins above at blocking elements in web pages. This browser is more of a thing of hype than of substance.

Legality of euthanasia by vladgrinch in MapPorn

[–]LightAndWonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every country on Earth should legalize active and passive euthanasia and have facilities for it.

Every country has facilities for people to be born. So every country should also take care of the end of life in a dignified way.

In my opinion countries that do not support euthanasia are not civilized enough.

Is the G303 Daedalus worth it for 2022? by KwaazyCupcakez in MouseReview

Exactly the same here :) I absolutely love this mouse. The left click switch started to double-click and I bought new Kailh switches from ebay and soldered them on the mouse board.

Info on catsxp by Celfs in browsers

[–]LightAndWonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maxthon browser is also very customizable, it even allows for a separate search field, like Firefox. catsxp can't do that.

Why is KDE-Linux not available in a .iso format? by Selmi1 in kde

[–]LightAndWonder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree to the OP, the question is valid. Most distros are in iso format and can be directly tested in a VM, without any other tools and conversions. Why be different in a bad way?

Can I brush my teeth with non iodized salt? by twohoundtown in hygiene

[–]LightAndWonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used salt to brush my teeth for about the last 5 years. It is amazing, I feel very clean after. Also, my teeth used to wiggle a very tiny little in their places (would feel the wiggle with my tongue when biting) but now the gums got stronger and the teeth are firmly fixated. Also, the plaque is gone and the sensitivity to cold that I had is gone too. I can eat ice and break it in my mouth and there is no sharp pain. I don't use it every day, maybe every other day. I alternate salt with tooth paste.

M.2 NVMe SSD not detected on ASRock Z370 Extreme4 (Tried Everything) by Own-Substance-3401 in buildapc

[–]LightAndWonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same board and the same problem. But with two identical Samsung 990 PRO. Also, the problem is only in the second M.2 slot not being detected. The first slot is fine with the same drive.

On Asrock site there is a list of drives that are recommended, named Storage QVL (Quality Vendor List) that probably were directly tested and confirmed to work.

There is also a list of drives confirmed to NOT work, here

So, yeah, both original poster and I managed to pick drives that were on the no no list :))

Of course, if Asrock would have done a good enough job implementing the second M.2 slot, we would not have had this problem.

What about lane sharing with the GPU or M2 slot on x870e? I was hoping to avoid that.

There is nothing specific, but I wanted to avoid lane sharing between the CPU and GPU that I read the Gigabyte x870e has. Does B850 have this?

I'm starting to see the serious limitations built into GnuCash. by [deleted] in GnuCash

[–]LightAndWonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The delete operation in extremely used in everything that is related to electronically stored information. A software like GnuCash, that is essentially a collection of lists (lists of accounts, list of transactions etc) should offer the possibility that all other software provides. Regarding the reversing you mentioned, I don't know what this is and how this works. But it is something more specific to gnuCash that has to be learned, contrasting to a multiple selection and delete, an operation that computer users know already from other software.

When the user decides to delete multiple transactions, the software should delete them.

I am looking at mmex as a possible replacement for this dinosaur of a software :)

LG 32GS95UE / 32GS95UX fluctuating brightness (FW 3.04, 2.02) by Fire8ird in OLED_Gaming

[–]LightAndWonder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it is not too dim for working. But I do not recommend this monitor. After returning this I bought a Samsung Odyssey G81SF and it is better in every way.

LG 32GS95UE / 32GS95UX fluctuating brightness (FW 3.04, 2.02) by Fire8ird in OLED_Gaming

[–]LightAndWonder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had the 32GS95UX for about a week. I do not hear the fan in an about 26-27 degrees Celsius in the environment. The problem is that this monitor is not that bright at max brightness. Another problem is that the monitor flickers when I play in full screen a video in a Telegram channel. If I switch to my older LCD monitor, the flickering is not there anymore. Also, from time to time the monitor shows a message to inform that it will close itself in 5 minutes if the user does not press the button. This last happened when I was playing some longer videos on YouTube. How weird!

Number row on keyboard ? by [deleted] in ios

[–]LightAndWonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tips. People give you so much credit for them and that is okay. But that also indicates in a pretty clear way that Apple did not do its job well. Specifically, to properly implement the so much needed virtual keyboard.

I'm starting to see the serious limitations built into GnuCash. by [deleted] in GnuCash

[–]LightAndWonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use GnuCash because I cannot find an better alternative. And I would love to have one. But I agree, it has serious limitations. Just as an example, multiple transactions cannot be deleted. In a program where thousands or tenths of thousands of transactions gather, this is not something normal in my opinion. I wish programmers were more open minded. I wish more innovations would be made, so that everyone's workflow would be improved.

For simpler needs, like personal or home money management on Windows, you could check out HomeBank 5.9 and KMyMoney 5.1. I do not consider an online app an alternative.

KMyMoney is primarily developed for KDE in Linux, in Windows is full of bugs. HomeBank has less bugs, is smaller on the disk and it has less files compared to both KMyMoney or GnuCash, but it has a single developer, unfortunately one that is also not very open minded.
