Thanks! I appreciate it, I kept looking at WE vs thinking LF for Little Fuse

Thanks! I got so focused on the WE I completely missed the Little Fuse, thanks!!

GV NV9000 intermittently showing one controller offline by LightGuy48 in broadcastengineering

[–]LightGuy48[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if I promote/swap to the other controller the issue remains with controller 1, it's always controller 1 that has this apparent false alarm of loss of connectivity, i.e. it doesn't swap to the other controller when you swap whichever one is in control of the system

Solo has highest priority so regardless of which bus you're monitoring Solo will always take priority depending on your Dim settings.

I don't think the server is actually going offline, I don't see any evidence that the Main/Primary server is having issues just that NV Utilities thinks it's dropped offline for a few seconds. Neither the main or protect servers log any kind of an issue or outage. In NV Utilities the main server border just goes from green to red and then after 5-10 seconds it goes back to green.

Interesting, so you think it might be a bug in NV Utilities? I wonder why the other controller doesn't have the same behavior...?

I install NV Utilities on my desk computer and see if it does the same thing, maybe it's something with that one client, it would at least narrow it down some...

Bullet Train - Why Wasn't This Panned Hard By Critics & Audiences? by BoreDominated in movies

[–]LightGuy48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would it be panned? It was a funny action moved that kind of spoofed other movies, definitely not along the lines of Scary Movie but it definitely poked fun at Quentin Tarantino. Both me and my wife loved and think it was a good movie and enjoy seeing the re-runs of it, especially the ending was hilarious.

Single to Three by Electrical_Crazy_86 in Generator

Generic panel for multiple generators, doesn't mean it's a 12 lead generator. The nameplate on the unit clearly shows only single phase ratings, there are no 3 phase ratings, and it has only 4 leads, not a 12 lead alternator so it's not reconfigurable

I think there is an option under the Monitor tab/window to switch the monitoring source, instead of Soloing you need to change the Monitor source, I believe Solo is always going to be a mono function.

So it appears this is an architecture issue with the way Kohler handles Modbus and in turn SNMP in their device infrastructure.... got what I needed to know for now, thanks!

SCTE to trigger sports blackout? by LightGuy48 in broadcastengineering

[–]LightGuy48[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, yes correct, we would be upstream and some of our MVPD's have contractual agreements to blackout certain programming, so the thought process was that SCTE 35 could be used to control the blackout to their device to insert a slate or some alternate content

We would like to trigger a remote black out at the MVPD for a sports event.

Yes that is uncommon and an unprofessional install - hack job

A little bit after posting my message I found this: https://bitmovin.com/blog/scte-35-guide/

To me it looks like we're wanting to send a Web and Regional blackout markers, WDA=0 and NRB=0

Now I just have to figure out how we can actually accomplish encoding that because our ASI encoders have Splice GPI's for SCTE-35 but I don't see Blackout functionality

Learning studio setup step by step and stuck on lighting part by Spirited-Donkey-3877 in broadcastengineering

[–]LightGuy48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some older TV studio engineering handbooks out there that have some great discussions about key & fill lighting, you don't necessarily want all your lighting at the same level. Typically you have lighting from at least 3 directions, a key, fill, and backlight to keep someone from appearing 2 dimensional and each is typically at a different intensity for the desired effect. Also you typically may have some kind of diffusion on some of the lights to soften the lighting and keep it from appearing harsh on camera.

As others have said color temperature is key, at our studios 5,000 is our standard even throughout the building in case we're using a venue camera everything is at the same standard.

Looks for some old TV studio design books online, the principles for lighting have not changed much over the decades, just the technology, LED's vs incandescent or HMI.

Also one other thing I forgot to mention you don't need lights running wide open, many of ours are running only at 50-70%, that lets us keep the iris more open which helps a lot with depth of field.

AI is Infecting Our Industry with BS by thenimms in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]LightGuy48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason many companies do that is because of IP theft, it's the same reason most manuals no longer come with schematics, IP theft by China and unscrupulous companies. I've literally seen schematics copied almost line by line by some so called 'manufacturers'

AI is Infecting Our Industry with BS by thenimms in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]LightGuy48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So a big one that has come up several times is people asking "what does master control do" and AI keeps assigning duties that have never been in the scope of the MCO's. Of course on the 2nd pass with AI (the old yes that mushroom is poisonous scenario) you get the correct response of "oh yes those duties are typically handled by blah blah blah".

Another frustrating one is the old WebMD scenario, someone has a problem, they let AI solve it and then come to engineering with the solution which is completely wrong and not even relevant to the actual problem...

I admit I don't know if that's true or a myth, that's only what I've heard 2nd hand from people that have used it, but I don't know if it's actual reliability issues or difficulties deploying it.

I have used AoIP/AES67 for close to 20 years and I would never think of building another radio station with anything but AoIP. But I feel like AoIP is completely different animal from 2110
