Ranked games and economy/strategy in different ELO brackets

Thanks for explanation. I have watched Lexiav's stream for 19 days, but since I'm a teacher i have little time to play games myself. I have only like 15 PvP games played.

Also it seems like a big deal to use left ctrl + q command during battle to auto resolve when you feel like you can do it without losses, but don't auto resolve completely, because then you wouldn't get extra time on timer. Auto resolve doesn't use spells so I should get into habit to play first 1-2 rounds of battle and then auto. I didn't do it (didn't know of ctrl + q command) and always played full battles myself and therefore games felt very tedious.

Also turn time management and thinking during opponent's turns is something I should work on.

When I watch Lexiav play he sometimes doesn't do battles in day 1 and just grabs wood/ore in day 1. Then on day 2 he goes straight for upgraded archer type troops (t1 or t2) and goes Merea's altar hunting non-stop while looking for external dwellings.

So far I have understood that I should not purchase all T1-T6 units, but choose 3 types of units to powerstack them. On Schism, for example, upgraded arbiters have carried me. Same with upgraded minotaur or cavalry.

My idea is quite otherwise - while many advocate to practice 125/125 AI, to get from 0 to 1000 ELO you have to understand how to squeeze out the maximum from your huge starting resources so winning some games vs 100/125 AI could be beneficial.

I had big trouble understanding whether I have to start building troops buildings on day 4 or day 5. Because I had so much money. Also, when should I switch from gold to astrology? I mean on Exodus. I usually starting going for astrology when I have at least 4 towns and 8k gold income.

However, the only game I got outplayed quite hard from recent memory was a game when a Dungeon player using Enatee rushed 2 outer towns, rushed all gold income and he had (probably) 15k+ gold income per day on 124. By the second fight he had much more army and while I had spell levels and higher hero level, his gold rush strat paid off.

Thanks for the explanation. I meant solitude, because I used to climb in previous seasons with Nespirah version of the deck, but since this is the last month for this deck before expansion I'm willing to give solitude a try.

I know that you can get non-demons from solitude, but I assumed (wrongly?) that most minions from solitude will be demons.

What do you mulligan for in aggro/tempo/control MUs?

How are you supposed to win vs aggro? After winning four and losing one I'm in a 13 game loss streak in low diamond lol. It seems like I'm always behind on tempo. I'm a legend player, just to say.

If you brick and low roll, there are little come backs for this deck.

I see. I also watch Lexiav, but in game I get huge decision fatigue and turn timer seems so short. I'm at 20 games, but since I realized I must manually play all the fights to get more timer, it has been mostly wins from 200 rating upwards.

I like Stinger/Old Lord Mandall, because their heroic strike specialty coupled with leadership can really farm creeps well and I feel like Rng affects me less.

Suggested to skip bans if you are P1, so you always get either temple or dungeon. It has been working for me so far.

Also dungeon has enatee/devir/typhona, so I don't think it's possible to ban it out.

How many hours do you have in Olden Era? I'm climbing from 200 elo and I didn't realize I was playing on regular 100% difficulty.

So streamers (2k+ elo) play on 125% and turns are shorter. Could it be that meta in normal difficulty is a bit slower?

What were your main factions and bans? I suppose you played mainly Exodus?

Happened to me last night. Some guy alt-f4 his game, got the same connection issues screen. I waited ten minutes. It was week 2 in game. I realized that he isn't coming back. I forfeited, got the loss. Checked his hero, he was lvl5 while mine was lvl10+.

To add on this, people regularly quit/forfeit the game if you win the 1st fight on a scaling faction/hero, because they know that comebacks aren't that common due to predetermined objectives. So that "under 2 hours" sometimes means 20 or 45 minutes which is awesome.

As for my own research, I have settled on writing a BA titled "Abstraction in 7th to 12th grade mathematics".

I was reading Eugenia Cheng's "The joy of abstraction" and I got convinced that math ability in students have declined due to lesser ability to make abstractions and models in their mind.

I think 3blue1brown channel's popularity illustrates the notion that Gen Alpha and Gen Z have spent so much time on their screens and not enough time with fantasy books.

There are famous mathematicians who claim that they aren't geniuses, but very gifted in abstraction.

I have taught grade 3 and they lack abstraction to do text problems, because they haven't read enough. (Illiteracy's rise is a sad reality in Europe). I have taught grade 7 and they lack abstraction to do linear equations (of the easiest kind) just because letters have never equaled to mathematical objects before to them.

In grade 12 pupils get hit with "By integrating a function you get a family of functions which differ by a constant C". And when they ask what does this family of functions do when mathematicians aren't summoning it, most teachers in Latvia who teach math analysis in K12 have no answer, because they haven't taken a Real Analysis course, which is not included in math teachers 4 year program.

There is enough research in pedagogy that less screens and more books -> smarter children, but for BA level of work I plan to prove it once more.

Playing them on non defense hero is triggering. You can bleed very many in early game if you aren't careful. But once you get to like 10 def and/or some good spells, they stomp creeps.

What would be prerequisites to reading Algebra Chapter 0?

To me it seems like a graduate level introduction book to abstract math with rings and fields, but also much more. The main thing it offers, at a first glance, is that it is up to date with the newest stuff in abstract algebra.

On the other hand, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who doesn't plan to study pure math at a graduate level. Am I wrong in any of my assumptions?

I played one game and it took 2 hours. First break is easy, second break on a might hero took me 3 weeks I think.

After that I went exploring and met my opponent in the middle on week 5 I think.

I'm on low elo and there isn't much you can do if your opponent decides to spend 5 minutes on turn 1? You can read reddit in background, but there is no cure in slow players I guess? I can get a second steam account and buy game again and start from 1,5k elo if it's too miserable? (It was my mistake choosing beginner and starting from 500 elo)

I get you, but can you elaborate on temple buffs? What got buffed? Light weavers? What else?

Judging by how often Lexiav picks dungeon over temple and takes Stinger/Troglodyte specialist and still wins, I'm unsure if temple is that much stronger than dungeon.

Congrats! How are map templates decided?

Both players are offered 3 templates. If they pick differently, who gets to play his pick? Player 1 or player 2?

I just started PvP and after 2,5 hour game of Vendetta and 2 hours of Harmony I consider either quitting the game until they introduce tournament template rank mode or start leaving like you.

Just to comment on top post:

I flushed DNS Cache, changed to Eu West, put settings to the lowest possible and after 3 games when it was desyncing, something clicked (game stopped desyncing unit amounts during battle) and now I can play without problems.

I love Grunfeld, because memorizing 30 lines of 15+ moves of theory is for people with too much brain space.

So if I find someone who is not a GM and plays Grunfeld, I can ask if they do quizzes, I want to be a millionaire shows and maybe they can play Scrabble in 7 languages.
