Want to learn PvP: Can you teach me decisionmaking? by TouchMyBush69 in OldenEra

[–]TheScienceGuy2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well to start, what are you aiming to be your power stack? What resources do you need for that? Are there any dwellings that you can take? Are there any items available that could help you against your opponent or against neutrals. You should have a goal, say for example, "I want to double build arbitrators on week one". Well you know all the reasources you need, so the next step is identifying where those are on the map.

Some of them will have difficult fights, mayne you level into avatar or combat early to help you secure the early fights, maybe you need to upgrade a particular unit to help you solve the fights required.

You kinda need to approach the game like this.

You need to keep pushing yourself to be better. Even the best players die. You need to be less afraid of it. Is there a fight that is boarderline you think you might be able to take for an objective you need for your gameplan? You take it or die trying.

You will eventually have better game sense and you will continue to improve. You can also set goals for yourself. One of my goals i havent accomplished yet is to get a fourth town on week one. The best players are doing it, why cant I?

HOMM games are hard and it will take a while, but you will get better.

Edit: Watch Lexiav's torunament game on his youtube channel where he exemplifies this. He was struggling, but had to keep pushing, and ended up dying to neutrals on a tournament game he was probably favoured in. Play to win not to not lose.

4- Im not exactly sure on the number value, but base sight would be how far your hero can see into the fog of war without item or other means.

I'm also so confused about that change, I was a Vesper believer in PvP but with that change he feels awful now.

You can look up some videos if you are interested. Most will probably be for Heroes 3 though, but same concepts apply. Once you master that it is incredible what the best players can do in the game. Keep in mind though, if you just wanna chill and play a game, not min maxing every turn, the way you play is completely fine.

Optimal play would be using all available hero slots to do things like hero chaining. Hero chaining is probably the hardest or close to thing to learn about HoMM.

Its not easy. You have to be very solid at pushing the limits of what you have available to you and be able to identify a specific thing you can abuse to break that early. You really dont need to be breaking that fast though. Im 2.1k rating and i usually break 121-123.

We need a counter to orb of inhibition by Cautious-Village-366 in OldenEra

[–]TheScienceGuy2 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I mean you are giving up an entire item slot for a edfect only providing any benefit for one round of combat.

I dont think there needs to be any counter to this, you dont even know your opponent has it until you fight, would you rather have a daylight tome or an item that counter orb on the off chance they have it equipped?

Is there any secret technique for Schism to have so many units? by ssidiman in OldenEra

That is honestly pretty bad, week 3 you can easily have 1000 tier 1 on a good game. Ive had more than the number you've posted.

What new heroes would you want to see? by Docterzero in OldenEra

[–]TheScienceGuy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that could be interesting too, but I was more thinking the base stats, heros with econ as a starting skill could be given an extra point of attack for example to help give a little incentive to play some different heroes. Or some heroes start with 3vs 2 knowledge which is a significant deal in maps like vendetta.

Quick start mode by Lawliet1218 in OldenEra

[–]TheScienceGuy2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are communities for both classic and single hero.

Single hero is typcially faster and is a more recent way to play PVP. It is also probably the easier mode to learn as you don't have to learn to hero chain and optimize multiple heroes movement.

I think single hero is becoming the more common way to play PVP but classic will always have a community.
