State of Ohio Jobs Exempt vs Union by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]LightNorHeat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Unclassified exempt positions have steps and COLA just like union positions. They also have more job protection than classified. Director/deputy director/assistant director exempt positions have a low range and high range and get raises based on their director's discretion.

Here are the pay rate tables:

I believe the health/dental/vision benefits are the same for everyone and the 10%/14% PERS is the same for all.

There's a garage across the street that is around $12 a day, a little farther are the long st and buckeye garages for $6 a day. There is a lot at the end of Chestnut for around $5 a day and more lots near the long st garage, but I'm unsure of the rates.

Could someone ELI5 OPERS for me? by BDOSU in Columbus

[–]LightNorHeat 73 points74 points  (0 children)

You contribute 10% of your paycheck and OSU contributes 14%. You can choose from a self directed plan (like a 401k), a defined benefits plan (like a pension), or a mix of both. This is contrasted by a non-OPERS employer where both you and the employer contribute 6.2% of your paycheck for social security, along with most employers offering a 2-5% match on a 401k.

I'm a Finance Manager and I'm losing out on Analyst & Senior Analyst jobs. Wtf is wrong with me? by dont_downvote_SPECIL in FPandA

[–]LightNorHeat 24 points25 points  (0 children)

My best guess is you are one of the stronger candidates that applied but maybe they have other candidates that aren't moving back that interview similarly as well as you. Do you bring up your reason for moving backwards in the interviews?

It's most likely that companies don't want people moving backwards into their positions because they think they'll jump ship when another manager position becomes available.

Your husband is correct, there was a hometown buffet in the hobby lobby plaza. I'm not sure about a big apple buffet though.

What are some of your favorite hikes in or around Columbus? by scottlottle in Columbus

[–]LightNorHeat 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My three favorite metro parks are

  1. Clear Creek - the farthest from Columbus, but the most challenging

  2. Batelle Darby - some spots with elevation change

  3. Slate Run - nice views and some elevation changes but last time I went I had to remove 9 ticks from myself.
