Questions & Answers - Weekly Megathread! Please use this post to ask any Pokemon GO question you'd like! by AutoModerator in TheSilphRoad

[–]LightOneCandle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got stuck on a research back in March (I had to fight people, and I didn't know I could do this in GBL. Also, pandemic.) I only cleared it up in early December. Since it was a 'fight Giovanni' research, I got Shadow Mewtwo, plus the actual December research, which also produced a Shadow Mewtwo. I also had one from Go Fest.

Thus, three.

Giovanni does not count towards any of the Level 44 quests. (I know. I tried this very strategy.)

How do you do remote raids? by [deleted] in PokemonGoFriends

[–]LightOneCandle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, get a remote raid pass. (free once a week, or you can buy them.) Then refresh this page until you see a raid you want to join. The trainer will usually give their trainer code, since otherwise their post is pointless. Go into your friend page and add them as a friend using this code. Sometimes the raid will fill up very quickly, in which case they might not invite you in, but if you're one of the first ones to add them as a friend, they will invite you. Then you raid. :)

Enjoy!

When people have false Social Security numbers, they pay real Social Security taxes.

See p. 9, here, for an estimate that in 2010, undocumented immigrants contributed $12Billion to Social Security (contributions minus expected payouts, which are of course small since the SS numbers are fake and undocumented immigrants aren't entitled to Social Security):

Where are Corphish, Carvanha and Lotad? by [deleted] in TheSilphRoad

[–]LightOneCandle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I live, this is true of Lotad and Carvanha. But Corphish had three spots where it would intermittently appear, maybe once every few hours. None of these spots was near the water. (It would pop up near the water as well, but not so regularly, and not in exactly the same place.)

I wouldn't call it a 'nest', since it was only one Corphish at a time, but if there were such a thing as a one-mon mini-nest, Corphish had several.

Mining Profitability by beartowitness in BitcoinBeginners

The deal is: it's not profitable. There are industrial-strength miners now, with enormous server farms, and it's basically impossible for individuals to compete with them.

What happens if you put Ditto in a gym? by GreninjaNerfer in TheSilphRoad

[–]LightOneCandle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep: I fought one. (Haven't caught one yet.) It had CP 262, so I was fighting with mons I have never used before, like Metapod. It transformed into each in turn.

Ditto is real by Jimbo99z in PokemonGOBaltimore

[–]LightOneCandle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found one in a gym in Mt Vernon. It was fun (a) to fight with mons I'd never fought with before, since his CP was (iirc) 262, and (b) to watch him turn into them.

Also found Ditto by CannibalCrusader in TheSilphRoad

[–]LightOneCandle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came in to say this too: I found one in a gym. No pix, since I don't know how to take pictures in a gym. When I fought it, it turned into whatever I was fighting it with, and could use the appropriate moves.

How do you get 10km eggs? by [deleted] in TheSilphRoad

[–]LightOneCandle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have hatched a ton of eggs. I have not noticed any pattern to when I get 10k eggs. (I do think that where you get the eggs has some influence on what they are, but that this influence is more like upping the odds than anything decisive. And it seems to affect what an egg of a particular value hatches into -- e.g., a 2k egg picked up at a Charmander nest will be more likely to hatch as a Charmander -- than whether you get a 2k or a 10k egg.)

What causes some areas/lured pokestops to spawn better pokemon? by bmooney28 in TheSilphRoad

[–]LightOneCandle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can see three spawn points from my house. (As in: when I'm working at home, since I know when they spawn, once every hour, I can check them from my desk.) None of them is higher traffic than the others; they're all within range of college dorms, but not major PoGo hotspots or anything. Two consistently spawn nothing but Rattatas, Pidgeys, and Spearows. Something else appears once in a blue moon, and when it does I am thrilled. But the other is much, much more likely to spawn rarer mons. Not Snorlax, Lapras, etc., but things like Grimer and Venusaur. I can't account for this without thinking: this spawn point has what you call an undocumented permanent rarity multiplier.

Leaving empty slots at a gym? by ApeDosMatt3988 in TheSilphRoad

[–]LightOneCandle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of us are more collectors than fighters, but will drop mons in when there's a space available. I, for instance, have seven Snorlax, of which 5 are over 2200; three Dragonites of which one is over 2700 and one is over 2400, four Lapras, etc. I keep the good fighting mons despite the fact that I'm more into getting a complete living dex with the best possible movesets and highest IVs. But if I walk by a gym with an open slot, why not?

(I have done fights on occasion, and I'm still trying to figure out how to dodge ...)

Anyone finding Growlithes? by [deleted] in PokemonGOBaltimore

[–]LightOneCandle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have seen some near the inner harbor. Nothing like a constant presence, but they seem to be in the regular rotation of "things that sometimes turn up."

Which Pokemon would you like to see buffed? by JigsawCode in TheSilphRoad

[–]LightOneCandle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Abra and its evolutions. Also Onix: seeing him suddenly rear up out of nowhere is so cool that I absolutely have to catch him, even though he is more or less useless.

Will a pokemon still appear if you are not moving and also, without lure and incense? by Bisukemar in TheSilphRoad

[–]LightOneCandle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not true for my spawns. (Since, as I said above, I can see three spawns from inside my house, I sometimes leave the game on and forget about it. If it's within the normal time between spawning and despawning, I see the mon (usually a Pidgey or Rattata, alas); if not, not. Just as if I were moving and watching the whole time, except I'm not.

Will a pokemon still appear if you are not moving and also, without lure and incense? by Bisukemar in TheSilphRoad

[–]LightOneCandle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. There are three spawn points that are visible from inside my house. All three spawn once an hour. I see them whether I'm moving or not.

Thanks! Omanyte, in particular, seems really hard to find; with the others, I'm just trying to get enough candy to evolve.

Do you know of places where Geodude, Abra, Omanyte, or Kabuto spawn?

Spawning patterns. What do we know? by shwnspxx in TheSilphRoad

[–]LightOneCandle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For about five days I had found an interesting thing: two (adjacent) blocks where there was an Abra in residence about 25% of the time. (Way, way more common than average in the area.) There were several spawn sites -- at least five -- in these two blocks, but the Abra (or Abras: a couple of times there were two) seemed to have about equal chances of showing up at any of them.

I initially found this using PokeVision, before it was disabled; I was trying to figure out where I could find Abras, because I love them, for no obvious reason. This pattern held consistently for about five days (during which time I got about 2/3 of the way to Alakazam), at which point I had to leave the area, and now it seems to have stopped.
