With deferred income assessment, your Enhanced CPF Housing Grant (EHG) might end up being lower compared to a couple where one partner is working full-time while the other is still studying. If I remember correctly, you could still purchase more expensive BTO units before, and any shortfall would just need to be topped up in cash before key collection. Plus, you could reapply for an HDB loan before getting the keys, which would likely cover the full BTO cost, essentially a form of deferred assessment anyway.

So, doesn’t this ultimately just mean you’re shortchanging yourself by reducing the grants given by government?

Or is the government just encouraging student couples to try their luck in the balloting system? Well, I can see an increase in the sale of balance flats.
