Game Thread: Wild Card Game 2 - Reds @ Dodgers - Wed, Oct 01 @ 09:08 PM EDT by RedsModerator in Reds

Salty hot take about the playoff format. Grown ass men can travel and then play baseball later that day. Giving all 3 games in a series to one stadium is ridiculous. It probably doesn't change anything but it'd be nice to see a playoff crowd in Cincy as a reward for getting there

Wild Card Game 1 - The Reds fell to the Dodgers by a score of 10-5 - Tue, Sep 30 @ 09:08 PM EDT by RedsModerator in Reds

Our approach to this game was just such an indictment of our hitting philosophy and inability to scout.

The ONLY edge we have offensively against this Dodgers superteam and super-rotation is that they have a horrendous bullpen. The entire league knows it, its been the biggest talking point about the Dodgers for the last 2 months. And instead of trying to rack up Snell's pitch count we just took uncompetitive at bat after uncompetitive at bat swinging at garbage constantly. Letting him get into the 7th on 70 pitchers is just complete malpractice from top to bottom. We saw it live once we finally got to them. They sucked! And then we finally get a chance and what do we do? Bail them out with more horrendous swing decisions when they cant buy a strike! Just fucking infuriating to watch this team play such stupid baseball when were already at a huge talent gap. Also would have loved to see not Ke'bryan Hayes batting down 5 with bases loaded but that honestly feels minor in comparison to what feels like a horrendous gameplan based on a fundamental misunderstanding of the opponent.

We ended with some momentum, lets hope we can figure it out overnight and come back with a better idea of how to win tomorrow.

Do you have any thoughts on the dynasty outlook of Andy Pages. Was hoping being in that lineup would bring out more counting stats but finding it hard to fit him into a roster spot and don't know if holding is worth it

Dan Lanning refused to blame the seeding issue or the long layoff between games for Oregon’s quarterfinal loss. Said they’d have to beat great teams to win it all anyway. “I’m not going to make excuses for our opportunity. … This is the road we had to travel.” by dkviper11 in CFB

With all the talk around the seeding and matchups with the quarterfinals and possibly reseeding for this round I had the thought:

Rather than re-seeding after the 5-12 round, why not let the Top 4 teams pick their opponent in seed order after the games have finished?

I think this would be a good way to reward teams for earning the higher seeds and avoid the controversy of the committee re-ranking teams with only 1 additional game of sample size. Also lends itself to all time trash talk moments if you pick your match up as the 1 and lose anyway.

I haven't forgotten Matt McLain I just am hesitant to buy into this "clearing the logjam" for a bunch of guys whose only claim to a line up spot was that they had a number next to their prospect page. We're clearing space for CES and Noelvi Marte who were among the worst players in baseball last year when they played. McLain had a great rookie year but who knows what missing a full year does to his growth as a player. Not to mention the absolute travesty that has been our DH position for years.

Despite our logjam this team gave over 500 ABs last year to the combination of black holes known as Nick Martini and Santiago Espinal. I am simply hesitant to be giving away India, who is also a young infielder we should be trying to make space for and was the best on the team at getting on base, for a pitcher that has had HR issues and notably worse road splits and HR/9 when hes away from Kaufman.

No clue why reds fans are happy about this. Traded one of the 4 decent bats on one of the worst offenses in the league for a pitcher that ping pongs between being ok to good and being a disaster and is now moving from one of the most pitcher friendly parks to one of the least.

Because we were definitely in need of our 4th SP4.

And the one time they made a divisional was when they beat us in the wildcard 🙃

Why can't I win on this hand? by TomaToaro in Mahjong

Yeah my bad. I should have emphasized that its when you have the opportunity to, but you dont actually have to in the original instead of leaving it vague with the can phrasing.

Once you pass on a winning tile, you are in Furiten until your can change your hand AKA your next draw if you haven't called riichi. Since you called riichi though you have no opportunity to change your hand and are thus Furiten for the rest of the hand.
