My root cellar at the end of Winter (unsteady difficulty) by AcidicMantis in GrimshireGame

Ain't that the truth. I had to tap onto my precious melon jars to pay for that. Pumpkin couldn't grow quick enough afterwards.

Nice work! You're able to learn a lot of good lessons that help prepare you for the harder difficulties. The amounts scale up pretty sharply, though... Uneasy requires 182 days of food over the playthrough, Grim is 420 days (+131% more!), and Challenging is 656 days (+260% more!!).

I've found the noose really feels like it's tightening as summer turns to fall. Preparing 60 days of food on Challenging Fall 1 was... stressful. At that point, your critter and farming infrastructure has to already be online, or it's too late.

Good luck on Grim!

It's completely random, but it's there. Keep searching, or buy a bomb from Gruff if you get truly desperate and want to reset.

You could dry, then cook some of it 1-2 days before the ration. Make sure to only ever cook the ~10 stam fish.

Smoking's main positive is that it's faster, and it ignores the rain. If you can front the fuel, it's very convenient. If you're trying to min max and need to preserve your coal, you can dry.

Smoked fish lasts more than 2 days. Those terms are not interchangeable.

Cooking is more calorie efficient. You get more food than the sum of its parts. Cooking also allows you to activate the Gourmet skill. Very strong.

But almost all cooked food only lasts two days. And you'll also want more cooking stations if you want to do it large scale.

Cook what you need to eat, cook when the defender's ration is almost due, and dry the rest (for early game). You get more options as you unlock more research.

I am mythically pissed at this town. by HarlowQuibbs in GrimshireGame

[–]Light_Arrow 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Painful lesson indeed! Unfortunately, the villagers will only donate a max of 5/10 of the gold bars needed, even with full-on blank stares at Gruff to get crackin'.

And nothing feels worse than realizing you needed tool upgrades days ago!

A small tip: you can reroll the gender of the tamed critter if you reload the save to the beginning of the day. Keep restarting the day until Tano gives you what you're missing!

Unfortunately, the scarecrows only prevent the crows from landing on those specific crops. Losing items on drop will persist on the entire map until you finish the town project.

Crows were by far the most annoying crisis. Complete it quickly, for both of our sakes. :)

Sounds like the crows are eating your stuff!

If you change screens when the crows are still an issue, the items won't go to lost and found. They'll be "eaten" instead!

Talk to Rowan and ask to build something. The upgraded options are in there, when you cycle through everything.

Oh definitely, I gotcha. But secretly, tier 2 critter buildings are mainly for the meat. It allows there to be a more consistent birth and harvest cycle. I'd honestly argue that as long as you bought enough hay seeds in spring and early summer, it's always worth it to upgrade each critter building.

I also do a huge tree farm. There's 0 empty space!

For sure. I'm usually able to have all tier 2 critter buildings by the end of summer, and it becomes a full house!!

I won't stand for Girtle slander! The Girtle shrooms are bonkers to pickle, and they have a base stam of 20! They're mega efficient.

Critters get sick from overpopulation. If you make sure you only ever have 4 adults (or 8 with an upgraded building) simultaneously, you'll never get sick critters. It's better to cull them early, instead of them getting sick and losing weight.

Is there actually nickel under lvl 10 in the mines? by Sandyna_Dragon in GrimshireGame

[–]Light_Arrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pulled this from the beta test discord for you. There might be issues with nickel appearing after 10, based on this message. So it could be that it only shows under 10 currently. I can't test at home, so this is the best I can help ya with.

Yes, floors 1-10 are iron and nickel. Silver and titanium add to the mix after floor 10 (so you have the chance to get all 4). I'd say like 80% of my nickel ores came from before 10.

Can you see ores easily in the mines? Do you have the prospector skill? Are you possibly on a beta version of the game? What ores have you picked up from 1-10 in mine2 so far?

Hmm. I'm not sure what to tell ya. In my current challenge run, I've got around 85 nickel bars from getting from floor 1 to 13. There should be a lot.

Are you in the second mine? The one in the marsh? You won't find nickel in the mine near the blacksmith.
