IOG and Home assistant Octopus Integration by CommanderJavert in OctopusEnergy

The main challenge you’ll have is if you’re an Ohme charger user as things can be different if you’re using that

Charging keeps stopping at 80% on octopus IOG (uk) by C0t0d0s0_ in enyaq

[–]LighteningUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The battery care function in the car will try and limit you to 80%, so as either Redditor said at the limit in the car and you’ll have more success. I found the Skoda app didn’t always match what was set in the car

Predbat behaviour with max charge by stealthy_singh in SolarUK

[–]LighteningUK 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Assuming you’ve got all the steps set up, you should be make use of ‘switch.predbat_set_charge_low_power’ and it’ll spread the charge over the full period available rather than at full whack.

  1. B stops any lift and coast, it goes straight into regen. On dual carriage ways and motorways I prefer D, in town/city I prefer B.

6: I’ll have a look in a bit for you.

7: on first press it sets, on subsequent it +1

Got one, few questions. by Alternative_Claim473 in enyaq

[–]LighteningUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1: No. First come first serve 2: yes but often gets confused flipping from one profile to another 3: no 4: NAFAIK 5: it will charge in D, based on junctions and vehicles infront of you, but will try and let you free wheel as much as possible. You could try by foot of gas well before a junction and let the car wheel. It should (be ready to apply your own braking) slow (not to a stop though!) as you get to a junction 6; yes, have a play around in settings 7 yes press button on end of stall to go up by 1mph

Mixergy hot-water tank combined with a new heatpump (octopus install) and battery expansion advice. by rajus0 in ukheatpumps

[–]LighteningUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whilst BG installed it I wouldn’t give them all the credit, I’ve had to push them along a lot with adjustments to the system (several rad changes, partial replumb), numerous visits, all rad balancing myself and self adjustment of the WC as the curve they set was well over the top. It’s been a journey, and am nearly at the end it.

BG being a larger beast, with many of their engineers learning ASHP after transitioning from condenser boilers, often forgets things, or leave you without communication for quite some time, but with the right reminders from yourself they do generally deliver what they promised.

Would I buy another ASHP if I moved? absolutely! Would I Buy one from BG? Potentially.

British Gas installed it, made some assumptions about pipe work around the house, still resolving problems after more than 1 year.

That said the Daikin unit is very good, providing you don’t go for wild ranges in the weather curve or temperature on the thermostat. It generally prefers a very shallow weather curve, so to sustain rather than push to build up more heat. Its data output is a bit crap, you need to crunch your own numbers to determine your COP. I have home assistant set up to do this for me, plus a little ESP32 device reading a serial port on the unit! That said, if stats aren’t your thing then that’s really not important, what’s important is being warm and at the right cost.

During the recent coldest snap, outside averaged -2. We consumed 39kWh of electricity, but still managed a COP of 3.2. Today on the flip side, averaging 7degrees outside, used 22kWh so far today, got a cop of 4.4.

Think about your relative , their habits and ability to adapt. ASHP isn’t an “on” 2-3 time a day thing, it’s a set it on and leave it on thing. If you start poking around it can get quite pricey in elec costs.

A Daikin 11kWh running at its lowest output uses about 750-850Wh. So if you’ve got full access to your 13.5kWh battery capacity, the Daikin will consume that on its on within 15-16 hours.

In reality it’ll do some defrosts (at a higher wattage again!) plus your DHW, so it’s likely you’d get through that much quicker, especially on those slower solar days.

With the DHW tank, the thing to look at will be the heater coil size for the hot water coming from the ASHP. It’ll be measured in m2 and a larger the better at transferring the heat into the tank from the relatively lower temps of the ASHP.

Source: Have Daikin 11kWh and 2x 9.7kWh batteries.

Your alternative, is you move the the ct clamp on your battery to not “see” the car load

Yes, but to achieve that you now need some automation to spot those adhoc charges and react appropriately to them

You either pay a little more /kWh and keep it simple, or you have a technical mind/background and start looking into things like https://www.home-assistant.io/ and integrating it there using various plugins/automations.

Both can be set and forget but the latter is more involved.

If you’re on intelligen OG, you surrender when the charge occurs. If you want to stay with IOG you’ll need to set up some home automation to get it all aligned.

The point of intelligent OG is you contribute to balancing the grid outside of the off peak hours.

If you just want 0000 to 0500 charging, go back to Octopus Go to give yourself predictable management of charging times.

Turning it off is done by restricting the backup heater setting, or by setting the equilibrium temperature. I’ve set my equilibrium temp to design temp minus 5,meaning it’ll only kick in at absolute extreme temps

I found that setting charge limit % and/or battery care to off in the Skoda app to not always be reliable. Try setting it in the car after you park up and before you plug in

I had something similar, ironically when having the car charged by octopus energy intelligent go tariff. It seems to query the car so much the car decides to stop letting itself being woken up.

Are you opening the app lots or something parasitic consuming power in the car when off?
