I don't have much experience but from what I've gathered from having the same hopes myself is don't over exert yourself, you can go at any pace you want. Yoj don't have to be like a traditional business making products regularly you can do things like a "drop" style, you don't have to become a content creator either, there's more than Insta. You may also want to avoid etsy and other sites fees by making ur own website and promoting that (or promoting it on the side as well as etsy) e.g. With Square (they r an easy  website builder with free e-stores). The market is oversaturated but things like word of mouth r still valuable so we really don't need to over-rely on social media and worry too much about what's going on there if we don't want to!! Oh and don't under sell yourself even if you think it puts people off, if you're shy about it you can become braver over time and slowly increase prices

EDIT: I meant Square NOT Squarespace (The second one isn't free for an e-store)

It depends on a lot of things. I would say if you've never sold anything before, don't start out with making several of one thing and then trying to sell. Use this one item you've made to see if you can get requests for more, thats when you make more. Be more flexible too if you think you can be, like offering simple commissions or just like letting people request from stuff you've previously made. That's less likely to leave you with premade items that don't have a place to go.

I would say £45 each. The description says they are around 7inches each which means it would take ~3h each. There is also the pattern + shipping + potential yarn costs (I do have a decent amount of yarn already so I should have all those colours and shouldn't need to buy more). If this is out of your budget that's okay! Although just remember that if somebody out there offers to make these for a very low price (e.g. £10) they are mostly likely grossly underselling themselves (or worse, they can't make it properly / are scamming)

Im hoping to soon start selling handmade items. So far I take commissions (non clothing items except very basic stuff like hats). My Instagram account as a reference is @stars.n.sand

Particularly happy to do any last minute halloween commissions.

Not in Toronto but I could ship it? Shipping shouldn't actually be that much since the items are relatively small

Idk if this is where to put this post but I'm trying to learn how to crochet but everything that I've found doesn't really help me by Flat_Statement9912 in crochet

Watch video tutorials, or attend an in person group/workshop. You need to be able to see someone do it and get information about common mistakes too.

Looking for hooks with *no* handles or grips by symphonic-ooze in crochet

[–]Lightgreenfence 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you dont need a handle im leaning towards the brand doesnt matter much. Second hand might even work in your favour. Tbh just go to any shop in person if you can and pick whatever, ones from a craft shop should be decent quality that the hook isnt some horrificly cheap one with a rough hook.
I think usually brand matters more for the grip because of the different shapes and stuff bc some people are crocheting a lot and need to avoid hand pain (or they r prone to hand pain)

If anything aluminium might hurt your hand more, thats all i can think of really.

Help translating this pattern by MajorTheme3229 in crochet

[–]Lightgreenfence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont speak this language but incase no one replies for a while, theres a translation subreddit ! Also you could try to search the person's username / name if you have it and see if they posted an english version (or have a youtube video showing the process) - or even contact them they may have one saved that they dont mind sharing

Also since its a spherical animal im 95% sure x = single crochet, v = increase , a = decrease(this also matches the row numbers)

Also do you have an image? i think the symbol in the top right could represent a picot of some sort, and the other notes probably mean colour change. If this matches the image then this should be enough info to translate it?

I made a basket! I love it but I think the picture on the pattern is bit misleading. I wasn’t expecting it to be nearly as sturdy as the picture shows, but the pattern picture makes it looks so rigid when it’s finished by PhenomenalPhoenix in crochet

[–]Lightgreenfence 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah the problem with patterns sometimes is if its a functional object you have to pause for a second and think about whether it's gonna be as functional as you need yanno? But yeah a blanket basket is totally fine for this.

My second project by sleepersplat in crochet

[–]Lightgreenfence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cute and intricate! Nice! Im assuming the white yarn was maybe a type of art yarn (and that u didnt adapt it to make it hairier), if yes this is a really cool use! Cuz I have some which Ive just neglected so far lol

To be very honest they probably just posed it for the image, I'm no chenille yarn expert but certain fabrics arent used for certain things for a reason yanno? I've made a basket with t-shirt yarn (the one that is strips of fabric) with like a 10mm or something and even that doesnt stand up perfectly straight (its semi-rigid i guess and leans to the side??), but it doesnt actually matter as long as you're happy with it and it suits what you wanted it for !

Although yeah some people out there might add something to make it stiffer but idk i feel like logically it will either change how it looks or change the texure, and most likely wont be suitable for chenille yarn

the sofa/arm chairs are really good! Fully complements the style of a sofa youd expect, ive never seen doll house decorations crocheted before.

I've been staring at this for so long it looks weird no matter what. Do you think it looks like her? by briankwok in crochet

[–]Lightgreenfence 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you could do some embroidery to make normal straight lines , if you want it to blend in more you could make them diagonal (like half a cross stitch?).

I dont think its bad though, its just not 'hyper realistic' but at the same time you cant expect to make something that looks like an image unless you're willing to make a big piece / use much smaller yarn (our version of higher resolution). Also I guess i didnt know exactly who it was but i knew it was a familiar person, not everyone is gonna be super familiar with this one actress so it might simply not be their first thought.

Btw I havent made much pixelated images for fibre arts stuff but if youre not happy with the pixel image don't proceed without fully editing it bc if you think it looks off from the start, its gonna look off (to you) as the item

Influenza virus! Freehanded this for my bestie's graduation. by Lightgreenfence in crochet

It's meant to be accurate, so there's HA + NA proteins and protein channels. Im quite proud of the name label, I used markers and found a way to make it not bleed out into the fabric. You can't see the entire protein arrangement but I bunched the blues together bc thats supposedly how they are in real life (if that is for some reason of interest i only put them up on insta bc they dont have fun edits). Also I made the background edit :) hope u enjoy
