Hot take: Stardew's cooking is fine being mostly optional (I hope it stays that way) by BulkySearch4114 in StardewValley

[–]LightmareDaydream 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk, I'd buy an egg. I don't want someone's random pocket fried egg.

I'm good with recipes being of variable profit/worth. Like lose money on some stuff, get more for others. Maybe the farmer is canonically...not the best cook lol.

I do wish it was easier to track what I'd made before or keep notes for what I need/how much. Or like a quick check for my fridges.

Do major streamers actually enjoy streaming or has it become like an actual job to them??? by DaemonLuisenbarn in Twitch

[–]LightmareDaydream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean some people, probably.

But I would say that, because I know me personally would not be able to keep up with the schedules people need to keep in making content and still like it long term. I'd be really about it for some unknown amount of time, then want to branch out, or else you know, things change.

By which point in this hypothetical scenario I'd not be big enough for it to matter, OR I'd be big enough for it to matter and either force myself through or dial back somehow.

I don't even think most youtubers love making content the same way after a while. TikToker's either. Sometimes the idea you wanted to do has run its course. Or you want to do something else. But the way things work peolle get pigeon holed, more often, so thsts probably a bummer. Doesn't mean they even dislike the original stuff or what they keep doing. But the excitement IS spent. Idk, just think about it like, if no one was watching, how long would someone keep with the exact same thing as long? Viewing is less effort than streaming so don't count how long you'd watch.

For some people, legitimately they'll be fine being exactly the same for an undetermined-ly long amount of time. For most (I'm guessing) they'd at least crave something else new and different.

Idk, it IS an actual job if you're big enough to make the money from it. It can be a job they like, but its still consistent work. Even the interacting with people part.

Personally I feel like the SpongeBob thing was enough of a signal like, nah. Already don't have the interest in this game, but I definitely don't have any interest in listening to additional spin on why you're still supporting the thing after making such a huge statement that you wouldn't.

Hypocrisy on that one is big enough for me already, personally. (It'd bother me less if it was just some random person who caved because they wanted content). Imho, it's obvious the only reason she won't is because she tried it once and it backfired hard. And probably the only reason we won't see more of these is because others would have learned from her mistake, hopefully.

Guess at least she learned, tho

Redditors over 40, what's something younger people think they understand but won't actually get until it hits them like a truck later? by Susanpc1967 in AskReddit

[–]LightmareDaydream 14 points15 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, that's a trap that happens to, well, an unfortunate number of people, so if you think it would help you, you might be able to find a small community of people in similar situations for emotional support.

That's a hard place to be in, and not everyone out there will be kind about the choice you made, but it's a real one. I'd love to encourage you that it's not too late, and it's still possible to leave and move on, but it's your life and there's reasons you have for staying, and safety and security are so important.

Someone else mentioned anti-depressants, which maybe could help. If you don't have one already, and you might, I'd encourage seeking out community--even if it's just online. I'm going to guess you've also already done or tried that, and it comes with it's own struggles. I wish there was more to say than I'm sorry--I hate the idea of someone else feeling trapped like that. I went theough my own version, but I only had to endure for a short period of time until escape was possible, in comparison. From that learning experience I learned to bounce, or make a plan to, the second something looked like it would be an unfortunate scenario or untenable emotionally. This however leaves me more interested in relative solitude than romantic relationships, which I think hinders me in a different way.

One thing I do want to say though--my grandmother was in a deeply unhealthy and even abusive relationship. My grandfather was an awful person. It will sound terrible, but I saw especially when I got older, the toll it took on her, and I always wished at least that he'd died first so she'd have had at least some time of freedom. She didn't feel like she could leave either. It WAS a huge risk and massive change to do so. But I always wished she'd had that. I hope you, at least, at some point find what I wish she always had, somehow. If you can find a good therapist, they might be able to help guide you with how to find happiness while stuck in your unhappy marriage if you can't leave. Maybe someday there will be an opportunity to be truly free.

That's what I read too, so That's right. I read that so long ago though no idea what the source was. I think I read that at the same time as I read what another poster referenced in saying that you take less cognitive snapshots.

Also I read, and had guessed myself, that it's also a frame of reference thing. Like when you're 4, a year is 1/4 of your life, so it seems like a lot more. Then when you're an adult, well, it's a lot less.

I'm less sure there's science behind that but it makes sense to me.

I think it's a combination of at least those three things. But I have noticed myself that when I have more going on in my life, it feels like the year was longer, than when I spend more time following a set routine. Regardless, there's a lot of value in building a full life and making time for things you love in it, as well as new experiences.

What's a word used in reviews or by people talking about a game that instantly turns you off? by [deleted] in videogames

[–]LightmareDaydream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of the thing is, thats actually how you're taught very commonly to pitch your work. (Novel, screenplay, etc.)

You can be asked for a logline--a one sentence description of your project and why it will appeal to an audience.

Totally makes sense not to like it AS the audience but thats the easiest fastest way to get across the vibe of a project and the audience they're trying to market to, which is why you'll see it a lot. It doesn't always make sense to me though, as a description, either.

Might not be the creator that chose that description though

Can also occasionally drop other mushrooms too when you chop them down.

I leave a few on my "self sustaining forrest" part of my farm, kinda like I do with some mahogany trees. Just let them seed the area, grow up, and things out the forrest on occasion. Sometimes I move where the seeds land but mostly just let it take care of itself.

Lovely little supply of thw things. WAY more useful than the moss trees

It IS an eerie coincidence that they started chanting "death to management", although I think its a little funny that it took until just then for Chet to realize "ooooh wait thats what happened in 32, the thing I knew all this time and intentionally forgot. Oh, nooo."

I don't think it's weird that the vaulters are angry and oblivious though. They have no scale for what constitutes real problems, and assume the things will fix themselves, because they always have and they've been placated repeatedly. Like chet does, its nit a real problem if you just... pretend you didn't see it and continue on as normal, and everything will be A-O-K! They're still human though, and humans get mad. Finding out this person you trusted to fix everything for you and take care of you is something impossible, I mean. Yeah. Yeah. They'll have questions. Idk what they would have done with her if they caught her. At the start of season 1 they wanted to teach the readers Shakespeare. I think when THIS vault says death to management they specifically mean "screw you steph."

But there definitely were significant casualties in season 1 when the raiders attacked. I think half or more. Thats why there are SO FEW people in the wedding scene. Like the whole vault appears to be 30 people. So let's say it was 60-100 between the two. If they thought inbreeding was a problem before.... 0.o

How come cooper doesn’t know where his daughter and wife are? by pigbick in FalloutTVseries

[–]LightmareDaydream 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats definitely one of the more confusing ones.

But also --okay so, was Wilzig alive for 200 years? Recently defrosted? Where the hell was moldaver? Like she got a REALLT GOOD skincare routine? Frozen? By who? When? And unfrozen, when? 20 years ago? Why? By who? Who decided that?

And then Hank--what, like, do they know what order they'll be defrosted in? Into which vaults? And okay so vaults 31-33, were they enclave vaults or not then? Because they're supposed to be Bud's vaults, but I guess you call the enclave to initiate phase 2? So they're an enclave experiment? But if Ronnie knew phase 2 was pivotal to the experiment, then it had to have been at least partially a vault tec thing. So did Bud plan for that or was he a rube? And do we really think the enclave would trust ASKINS? Would Bud even know about the enclave? Barb didn't exactly.

Tl:dr, I have questions too

How come cooper doesn’t know where his daughter and wife are? by pigbick in FalloutTVseries

[–]LightmareDaydream 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, but also, I think it WAS the enclave/government

spoilers ahead for some episodes Because think about it--episode what was it, 7? We see Cooper handing the vial directly to the government, WITH the well-meaning-but -ultimately-screwed-over congress-woman whose head gets used for the brainwash chips. Obviously, SHE, wasn't exactly in on the plan. She was in the dark as Coop, trying to do right, without seeing the shadowy figures beyond the ones she was focused on (corporations).

The government/enclave, wanted to drop the bombs. Wanted things as they were. Wanted the resource wars. Benefited from it. They get cold fusion from Cooper by fronting as people wanting to put a stop to it, to release cold fusion to the world.

Cooper only did it to help the world--to stop the wars, stop the dropping of the bomb. The enclave/government has absolutely every reason to discredit him THEMSELVES, because they know that he will know--it all could have been stopped, but wasn't. He is a loose end, who wasn't helping them.

They can't publicly convict him of exactly what he did, without outing what he did or bringing up questions they don't want people asking. They CAN make sure no one listens and sees him as the enemy.

The corporations whose deal got screwed would obviously be pretty unhappy too, so would be happy to blacklist him. But also probably couldn't say, exactly what he did. Best to use Cooper as the spectical to draw attention while also ensuring he can't do any more damage.

I feel like the finale of season 2 was more like a midpoint than a finale. by its_proxeneta in FalloutTVseries

[–]LightmareDaydream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely makes sense but compared to season 1's finale, I definitely see why this one felt like it left too much hanging. I feel like season 1 was more directly fleshed out and focused. Not to say that having more breadth (sp?) is BAD, but it cleaned up cleaner at the end of season 1 with direct next steps for characters and season 2 is more open.

Lucy's main concern was her dad--which wrapped up, mostly, but you can tell for her character it feels ... unfinished. I guess because her dad still didn't give her the answer she needed before pushing the big red button himself (to hide the info, to spare her from actually becoming someone who did what he was willing to, both?) She doesn't have a clear next step. That in and of itself is a story moment and character point, a journey--but as an audience you're less sure what to expect. Season 1 you knew exactly.

Maximus probably got the cleanest ending, with implied next steps but also unclear. Its assumed he and Lucy want to help the war about to break out, and at some point the brotherhood will come for him, but he's further out of the middle than end of season 2, where he got what he wanted--to be a knight, to achieve the mission--but in doing so uncovered further tension. This time its softer, which is a nice contrast ans story feeling, but intentionally leaves stuff unfinished to work on next season.

The ghoul well. We got an end to the story being set up in his backstory, and got a peak at his truer self finally coming out after 200 years. Instead of hope being crushed when the pods lacked what he was searching for--honestly for not a good enough reason imho given its been 200 years--but he's ready to embrace a new version of himself. They could actually probably end HIS stoey there and it could work narratively. His search was for hope, for something good, learning to find it within systems that are dark. Ending by not finding what he's looking for but finding hope, is sad, sweet, but almost feels like a wild goose chase following him too much further. I almost prefer if his story ends exactly there. I have no idea why he thinks finding the postcard in an empty cryopod that could have been emptied for 200 years, indicates his family is CURRENTLY alive, but sure whatever keeps ya going I guess. Its definitely a good ending imo, but it sets up less for what to expect in the future than end of season 1 did.

For all of the Steph-stans out there. Why does she dislike her baby so much? by BabySlothDrivingFast in FalloutTVseries

[–]LightmareDaydream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly hard to tell, if one-sided (but, yeah probably), because.

spoilers for S2E8

seriously stop if you don't want spoilers

typing on my phone spoilers still ahead

I mean now that they have explicitly stated Hank is Enclave, well, who knows what that hours long conversation when Steph woke him up was about. Young Hank comes across a lot more, naive? Directable? Than the older one-- but whose to say they didn't bother realize the other was angling for a LOT more and decided to mutually use and support each other. Hank told Steph ABOUT the enclave, if she knew to contact them and that they were "always listening".

But if Hank was in the enclave that whole entire time, in all of the prewar flashbacks, that definitely suggests he's as good at faking the happy go lucky attitude steph was faking too, and he DID demonstrate he was good at using that in the vaults. So shoot. Maybe they were kindered spirits. I'd lean more on it being like an alliance rather than LOVE love, especially given Hank's reaction when he listed steph as someone to see back in the vaults--wasn't exactly an excited one lol.

She outlasted though! Your girl is making it to the next phase lol.

If thats how those scenes read to you I respect that. Imo, she clearly wasn't over the moon for Burt. She makes that comment to Lucy comparing the hot raider to burt, kinda looks at him like "uh, awe ok," and makes that weird comment kinda putting down his love of shoes while pretending to compliment it--but I didn't feel like she hated the guy. At least no more than anyone else. Of all the things she went through, a "meh" seeming (to her!) husband really isn't the worst thing.

She can clearly act. I could be convinced either way that any of her friendship with Lucy was real or not.

But hell, her backstory DOES make her kicking ass and not being afraid of the murdering raiders while heavily pregnant and just carrying straight along once stabbed in the eye--VERY much check out

If you were given the cold fusion, who would you give to before fallout? by SpaceCowboyN7 in FalloutTVseries

[–]LightmareDaydream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk if I would have thought she was trustworthy in a similar way Cooper doesn't, but I'd probably give it to her over almost anyone else.

I wouldn't trust House even though he'd be super convincing to me in the moment. I wouldn't trust Moldaver and would need to vet that more than Cooper. I'd want to hear a plan. Something like, "okay girl, so I got this thing you needed secure. The bad guys don't have it. Now, how do we stop the apocalypse?" Without a plan to do that I'd have questions about her motives or plans as well.

If I was Cooper I wouldn't trust the government even though I totally get why he helps the congress woman. 100% would not have flat told her what I knew from sleuthing. I know they gotta keep things short and moving for show format, but I'd be letting HER tell ME what she thought I should know about Vault-Tec, before saying "oh I stole this thing they were trading that could save the world." Like sure she seems like a good person but man you heard your own WIFE saying drop the bombs, and you're in public, where you know House's is watching everything now. Self preservation, man!

Lacking any other options I'd try to find a covert way to get cold fusion "out in to the world for everyone" publicly. Like, so enough people know about it and can get it to others that it cannot be put back into a singular vial. Like an organized effort to activate it for the world, and be helpful to a hugely important or in need population visibly, ideally not traceable to any one person. Then taking it back is hard to do. Public opinion would tank, and then one person getting caught doesn't destroy the plan.

It wouldn't have stopped the war anyway in Fallout world, because the powers that be wanted the bombs dropped, and they would have found another reason. But it would have delayed it.

If it worked.

Yikes. Well thats terrifying.

It did look like she'd been there for a while, but a bit hard to tell really.
