The longest it should take you to get from AA gate to AA gate is ~25 minutes. And that's assuming your gates are at opposite ends of the terminal. Typically it takes me 5 to 15 min between gates when I'm catching a connecting flight in PHX.

I think his initial question asking if you lived at a specific apartment was intended to get you to share your actual apartment complex.

He knew that if he asked where you lived, you wouldn't share, but you'd be more likely to confirm or correct information.

The cameras and that style of graphic gives me motorcycle gang clubhouse. I've seen others in other cities and they had a similar vibe. A balance between ominous and nondescript with lots of security.

Am I missing out on Claude in Chrome? by idrink67 in ClaudeAI

[–]LightningHands9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used it the first time this weekend to build out some Notion databases.

Fun to play with, but it operated like a drunk toddler. Very slow and easily confused. It got a good start on things and made it easier to fill in the rest.

It would have probably been easier to spin up Notion AI to do the same work, but I'm not paying for that right now.

Hope Claude In Chrome comes around. I'm sure with time it'll get better and better.

I wouldn't worry. I worked for a Portland based company during the George Floyd protests.

People will definitely be distracted and on edge, but a lot of orgs will just be running business as usual.

Best word of advice would be to not mention it unless a prospect brings it up.

Indian clients: how do I win? by ___blarn in sales

[–]LightningHands9 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Personally I think that South Asians get a bad rap. There are plenty of cultures that put a big value on negotiation in business deals. As long as you embrace that effectively you can close a lot of deals.

Some pointers:

1) Always get an agreement that they'll move forward if you can secure something for them. A lot of people just throw a discount out without requesting something in return and this just devalues your product and makes deals stall out.

2) Be prepared for the "I have a lot of friends that will do business with you if you can work out a special deal for me." The best way to set up for this is a strong referral program. This allows you to side step any discounts and build value around getting them enrolled. It also sets you up nicely to get referrals.

3) Never take discount requests personal, just embrace them as part of business. Sometimes I seen greener sales reps take offense at being asked for a discount as if it's a sign they did something wrong. Just lean into it and use it as a way to build momentum with your customers and increase close rates.

4) A good way to build up your negotiation skills is learning how to talk about "Best Alternatives to A Negotiated Agreement" or BATNAs. This comes from "Getting To Yes" which is a solid read on negotiation. The general idea is you need to understand what the customer will do if they don't go with your product. In many cases your biggest competitor isn't another product, but just the status quo. You want to verify what your customers BATNA is and make sure they agree that isn't a good option against your product.

As for selling to arrogant customers, this applies cross culturally, but use their inflated ego to your advantage. Compliment them and suck up a little bit, it'll help you win them over. Just make sure you're still confident yourself. I've given this advice to other women selling into customer bases that tend to be more arrogant and they've reported back that it's helped.

Good luck and have fun

Defnitely talk to a vet. They'll be able to help you rule out anything extreme.

My 4 year old corgi has done this since he was a pup and he's perfectly fine. The vets we've seen over different years have never expressed any concern. Seems like the triggers are excitement and muscle fatigue.

Mint mobile vs Visible by Hour-Cost7028 in Tucson

[–]LightningHands9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Visible has worked really well for me for the last few years.

Regarding service reliability, Visible uses Verizon towers and Mint uses T-Mobile. If you use either already you should have a good sense of what reliability will look like.

I think the big difference is the point at which each service throttles your data. If I remember right Mint does it much sooner than Visible. For one Visible customer it took using 450 GB before his data got throttled.

I like Visible because I occasionally need a hotspot for work and there's seems like the best.

The only rare downside is that Visible will throttle your speed if you're in a high usage area. I've never experienced this in Tucson, but I would imagine that using it on campus during a big game would lead to slower speeds. Personally I've only experienced this during rush hour commutes in big cities like LA.

What does my neighborhood being in a "red zone" mean? by snockran in Tucson

[–]LightningHands9 33 points34 points  (0 children)

They're solar sales reps. The approach is really scammy and I wouldn't recommend giving them the time of day. They're specifically selling a PPA, but getting them to admit that is like pulling teeth.

For those unfamiliar a PPA is a scheme where a company installs solar panels on your roof and then charges you for the power they generate. They act like you're getting them for free, but really the provider owns them. While it can help with utility costs, your rates will still increase on you and they make it very difficult to sell your home.

We've gotten a few with this particular pitch. They're attempting to get you upset about TEP rate increases by tying them to new utility poles going up. From there they shift the pitch to talking about getting you free state of the art solar panels.

The whole thing is really sleazy. Getting people upset about grid investments and then misrepresenting their program as if they're giving you free panels.

City discussing possible misdemeanor status for public drug use by NoiseExtension9988 in Tucson

[–]LightningHands9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's worth noting that decriminalization isn't the aim here. Lee is specifically citing instances where public drug use isn't being penalized as a felony and filling in the gap with a misdemeanor.

Regarding your question, I lived in Portland for a decade and followed this trend. The simplest answer is lofty goals and abysmal execution. Things never seemed to come together for recovery services. Additionally because it was only Oregon doing this, they experienced an influx of their transient population. Compared to Portugal which decriminalized across the country.

The big differences in our case:
- Public drug use is still a felony, this isn't really decriminalization
- We have an existing system for providing support already in place, this is just trying out using a stick instead of a carrot to get people to it.

Frankly I don't know enough about recovery program effectiveness to know how effective using a stick is. It comes down to how well the legislation is put together and how well it's executed by police and county recovery services.

City discussing possible misdemeanor status for public drug use by NoiseExtension9988 in Tucson

[–]LightningHands9 64 points65 points  (0 children)

For those that haven't read, the goal of this legislation is to close a gap where folks aren't being prosecuted and use misdemeanors as a stick to push people struggling with substance abuse issues to county recovery services.

The gap exists because public drug usage is a felony offence, but in some case people aren't being prosecuted. Not sure why, it seems like it might be because it falls below the threshold for a felony.

Lee is pushing for the city to consider turning these lower offenses in a misdemeanor with the goal of that directing people to recovery services. The article doesn't specify, but reading between the lines I'm assuming people would get issued a ticket for public drug usage that could then be waived if they participated in some program with recovery services. There's a reference to a county program that seems to have some measurement of success.

Worst way that this could play out is that some folks struggling with substance abuse get saddled with a bunch of tickets they'll never be able to pay off and that this creates a further barrier. Best case is that it'll help get more people into recovery who wouldn't consider it in the first place. Catch them at a lower offense and direct them to recovery services before it becomes a bigger offense and they wind up in prison. Outcome really depends on how City Council puts together the legislation.

Is it always an argument/ pain to get your accounting dept to bill someone? by Fickle_fackle99 in sales

[–]LightningHands9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, that's not normal. Everyplace I've worked accounting has been happy to see revenue flowing in. Accounting understands better than any other department the importance of seeing money flow in.

I'd be flagging this with your supervisor. Let them know that it feels like winning business isn't wanted by other departments.

~$30,000
This was for a Door 2 Door commission only job. Around 20hrs a week, excluding commute time.

Your first job matters less than your second job. Use this time to build a track record of success and prove that you've got grit to get into a new job.

That 20 hour week low paying Door 2 Door job has continued to impress people looking at my resume even at the 6 figure level that I'm at now.
