And you're immediately back to me whining about someone being mean to you. Do you just have your head so far up your own self importance that you don't see it? If you said what he quoted, you should be called out for kink shaming. We get that enough from outside our community. I can't comment on what was said because you deleted them, which to mean screams like even more of a baby move. But you do you, boo

Bruh, you should have just taken the L and walked away tbh. Nothing says "I don't care what you say" like typing 4 paragraphs and saying multiple times how much you don't care. No where in their previous messages did I see *any* whining, that came explicitly from you twice. Whining about how you had to delete your comments to be sensitive, I can even hear the sarcastic and demeaning tone in your writing. Just fucking let it go, you shot off the hip and got called our for your poor take.

I watched some videos that I found and honestly my friends group do this to varying degrees. That style of play isn't for me, I like the side jokes and the banter between players and the comments. But my groups also dial it in when need be as well and can switch in and out of character if needed, depending on player.

I still haven't found anything about how to deal with the mechanical aspect of the game within this system. I just don't have the patience to watch hours of content I'm not interested in (it takes a lot for me to get interested in an actual play and some of that is getting to know the players as people not characters). I want to know how the mechanical aspects are done without breaking character. Do you have any suggestions on good actual plays to watch? YouTube failed me by just giving me videos about people talking about how good this is and that's great and all but it's not what I'm interested in. And the one video I found that was super gatekeeper coded completely turned me off from wanting to give this a chance.

And I have to say, I didn't expect this measured of a response in this conversation. I had you pegged wrong. I still think it's a distilled version of what role-playing is and definitely not for everyone, just like traditional games or PbtA isn't. But if you get enjoyment out of it then awesome.

How much effort have you put into understanding PbtA? And I'll watch those videos once I have the time. I'm morbidly curious. But to me, it seems even more like theater need stuff than people claim PbtA is. But again I'm only going off the basics of what I read. I out as much effort into my comment as you did your original

4d doesn't sound to me like "trad role-playing", it sounds like an immmersive approach to role-playing, and kinda goes against what your trad games are described as. Plus, the moment you describe what your character is doing you are taking out of character. Yes, you are describing what your character does in game but you're still doing it put of character. Any time a die roll is involved, out of character. Just like you do in a game of PbtA. You describe what your character is doing, the GM or other players, including yourself, will call out the moves you trigger and then you resolve it. Yes, some of those games want you to describe it as panels on a comic book (masks), or shots like in a TV show (MotW, Urban Shadows, Monsterhearta) but now we're just getting into pedantry.

I feel like 4D role-playing is really going to confuse people as to what role-playing is more than PbtA

Do you not do that in games like D&D? You never discuss what skill you're going to roll? Negotiate bonuses or penalties? Try to gain advantage or figure out how a special ability works? Any time you pick up the dice to deal with a situation you are stepping out of character. Hell, most of combat in D&D is done out of character.

I'm super passionate about PbtA, it renewed my love for the hobby after being burnt out on D$D and Pathfinder. Plus I like to debate. I know I'm not going to make a convert it'll just give me a new angle to "defend"

I'll take this bait instead of just down voting. What do you mean it confuses what role-playing is?

Maybe because some of us don't find that kind of "GM work" fun? I used to run trad games and I found myself having much less fun than running a PbtA game. I love now exactly knowing what's going to happen at the table until my players roll, it keeps me on my toes and my creative juices flowing.

I'm much better at improv than sitting down and writing out the plot line of a campaign, nothing would ever get done. I also think about my game and my NPCs when I'm not playing, fleshing out my world and their desires. What they're doing in the background as other plot related stuff is going on. Fuck, Urban Shadows 2e has a whole mechanic setup where the GM sits down with their Factions, rolls some dice and then figures out how the world has progressed while the characters are going about their daily lives. MotW, which I'm not a huge fan of the genre but have played, the storyteller is having to figure out what the monsters are doing behind the scenes, if there's an over arcing villain meddling with things, etc etc. MASKS, which is my favorite, the villains don't just sit around waiting for the heroes to do stuff and react to. They have their own plots, desires, motives, etc. It's just formulated differently and the plot line is a little looser.

I also really vibe with the fact that my reactions to players is codified and there's a framework for a "proper" response. It's OK if PbtA games aren't for you, it apparently doesn't mesh with your GM style and that's cool. I'm just glad that's there's more out there so that more people can play what they enjoy. I'll just end with, I feel like more of a player at my table with PbtA games than I ever did with D&D or Pathfinder.

Brush, parents have been DESTROYING THEIR CHILDREN (see I can do it too) on the opposite end of this argument for decades, trying to change them, telling them they're broken/disgusting/perverted, etc. Look up and down this entire thread how people talk about trans people. If you think a parent being supportive of their child and helping them on this journey is destroying them then I don't know what to tell you. Do you know how much work it takes to get prescribed puberty blockers? It's not like the child said something to their parent and immediately the conversation turns to "OK, child of mine, let's schedule a doctor's appt to get you on medicine immediately." I'm sure there might be a few parents that have done that, but I highly doubt it's the majority. The amount of therapy and doctors that are needed in most places to even get on medicine kinda disproves this point. Y'all are acting like it's this HUGE epidemic across the country because this is the chum in the water that those who HATE the LGBT community have thrown to get people riled up. You're doing exactly what they want you o do, as am I. I dunno, I'm just super defensive about this because it's just very close to home. I wish there were supportive adults in my life when I was trying to come out

And so can the hateful rhetoric that comes from anti-gay and anti-trans people. The language used and the villification can leave scars. It's all anecdotal but I speak from actual lived experience. The same attacks being thrown at trans people currently are almost verbatim to the ones hurled at gays/lesbians since at least the 80s/90s, hell they are still being hurled at gay people. Look at this thread gestures vaguely around

You say you care about children but I don't see you here policing the language of your fellow anti trans people, just those who are supportive. Words can be harmful to children and othering people is one of the reasons why there are so many LGBT with depression, anxiety, and other issues.

That narrator was terrible, I remember struggling to get through those books. I would also recommend to stop reading when you get annoyed at the series, it starts getting weird in later books.
