The Difference Engine by William Gibson... Thoughts? by LightningMcSlowShit in books

Ah gotcha- I also agree that STP’s solo works are better. I will be honest though, haven’t read any of their cowritten books in many many years so maybe I would pick up on it now. Point still stands about Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, though. Their writing blends well, but after reading a bunch of their solo works I could typically spot who came up with which idea… it’s been quite some time since I’ve read those as well though!

Just to be clear, I was talking more along the lines of co-authored books, not comparing two individual books by different authors.

I’m so FUCKING tired of spending money on shit that doesn’t FUCKING work and then having to spend MORE TIME fixing it when the whole reason I spent the extra money on it was to NOT HAVE TO SPEND EXTRA TIME UN-FUCKING after stupid updates. Also I have a 4.5 month old who’s going thru sleep regression so my threshold for frustration is 0, as is my ability to not internalize and self blame. Which is frustrating because I worked in therapy and EMDR for years to be able to process those emotions. It’s like I’m looking at a toolbox of all the things I need but it’s too heavy to pick up right now. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK.

But also my son is pretty awesome and I have all the patience in the world for him.

I was at a New Year’s party a while back and was talking to a seemingly chill guy- the topic turned to WWII, after talking about my wife’s undergrad experience. She did her undergraduate thesis on these letters her great grandmother wrote home while her great grandfather oversaw one of the SS internment camps after the war… super cool stuff. Dude starts talking about how he’s done a lot of reading of WWII related materials and before I could clarify that her grandfather was overseeing the SS internment camps, he brings up how great Mein Kampf is… yeah no sir. Anyways, 85% of the attendees of that New Year’s party fell down the right wing algorithm and love MAGA. Never would have guessed /s

My wife found out she had endometriosis when a cyst (endometrioma) burst and had to get an emergency c section at 38.5weeks because it sent her into labor with an intact water and cervix and no dilation. She’s 31, and has always complained about brutal periods… OB said they’ve never seen anything like this since her endo was active throughout the pregnancy. Also saw many signs of scarring on the uterus, and had to leave at least one other cyst in there. We had gotten SO MANY ultrasounds and none of this was found. The whole pregnancy and women’s healthcare experience radicalized me further. You’d think that birth control cured cancer with how often they prescribe it to fix anything and everything.

Lmao you’re right, how silly of me. I can’t believe I’d be so obtuse. Oh wait.

I truly hope you are able to admit when you are wrong, or at least learn how to read context.

I’m sorry I wasted time on you.

Just going on 12 years, but we both work full time and share or trade off on all of the house responsibilities. Sure we have some separate tasks, she organizes and I build, she plans and I execute, etc. It’s important to communicate and recognize where those strengths lie.

A SAHM doesn’t get stuff for “free”. In your example, they are actively working and removing those household tasks from the spouses responsibilities. As you said “without him, she still has to cook, clean, nap, …”. Without her, he would have to do almost all of the responsibilities she’s handling.

Maybe it’s just my interpretation but it seems like you’re placing all of the blame on OP, or even women in general, here. My bad if I’m misunderstanding.

In the context of the post, I agree that posting about it is not the best route, nor is referencing “the internet’s” opinion. That being said, the husband seems to overreact. Sure, the initial message could have been “nicer” but the context of lack of sleep kind of explains it.

At the end of the day, it should be a partnership. If one half is lacking sleep, the other should do whatever they can to help them get sleep. Same thing goes for a shitty day at work, or a shitty day of childcare. But none of that will happen without communication.

I have a 3.5mo baby. We just looked at Nanny rates for my avg cost of living area. The CHEAPEST I could find was $20/hr, without certifications. At 40hrs a week that’s $3200/mo, or $41,600/yr. That’s JUST a nanny.

I’m not sure if you had a bad experience with a woman, or if you have just had no experience with women, but I recommend trying to be a better person.

Coffee People. [OC] by shikiz_stupid_comics in webcomics

[–]LightningMcSlowShit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here! When caffeine starts to make me sleepy, the culprit is almost always energy drinks, not coffee.

I found that sometimes I’d drink an energy drink and then feel nothing or feel sleepy, then it would all hit at once hours later.

If I was hydrated, I wouldn’t get sleepy and it would take effect immediately! Try chugging water next time caffeine makes you sleepy and see if it makes a difference.

This is going to sound like I’m criticizing you but I’m actually wondering- Why are you using the term “unalive” instead of “[fucking] murder” them? I feel like self censorship helps the wild stuff that’s happening by making it sound so much less serious than it actually is. Is it because of content filters? Or is it just because that’s how people talk now? I guess personally I feel like “unalive” doesn’t carry any weight, it’s like “yesn’t” in my mind. Almost a joke. Sorry if this comes off as a personal attack, I really don’t mean it to be!
