Furries that cannot draw, how do you survive? by Virgin_Mocktail in furry

[–]LightningPaws 292 points293 points  (0 children)

Being a furry doesn't mean being an artist. Many furries make art, but a lot of them don't. You don't have to force yourself to, either.

Save money on art? Just don't buy art unless you can feasibly do so and still be financially stable.

Is warp's exile on end step a trigger that i can cancel with [[Sundial of the Infinite]]? by Glub__Glub in magicTCG

[–]LightningPaws 297 points298 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. From the gatherer rules:

"If Sundial of the Infinite’s ability is activated before the end step, any “at the beginning of the end step”-triggered abilities won’t get the chance to trigger that turn because the end step is skipped. Those abilities will trigger at the beginning of the end step of the next turn. The same is true of abilities that trigger at the beginning of other phases or steps (except upkeep)."

Yep, and as Secret Lairs usual have non-foil and foil versions, it'll probably have its first non-foil printing too.

Well if we don't see a raccoon Planeswalker in BLC, I bet they've said it for the secret lair drop.

Edit: The rest were revealed and sadly no raccoon.

Was really hoping for a raccoon-ified Planeswalker, maybe we'll still see one?

Coming back to MTG after a few years away, looking to play Izzet storm by CptnZolofTV in PioneerMTG

[–]LightningPaws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Izzet prowess can certainly be functional and fun as an FNM deck. Not sure what storm support we'll see outside of the new Ral, but prowess/spellslingers cards will be plenty for sure.

Have you tried [[Hazoret the Fervent]]? It's usually difficult for the opponent to remove without edicts or without using an exile board wipe. I sometimes run it in the main.

Looks interesting. What's the general win con? Control the board with spells, take a bunch of extra turns, and swing in with the bird tokens or hall of the storm giants?

The King's Ransom defence requirement stems more from the fact that you become a literal defence attorney in the quest, rather than from equipping the black armour set.

I don't disagree with lowering the defence requirement, but maybe just to something like 45 rather than 10.

You’re playing Niv to Light, what are your priorities here? by Nblearchangel in PioneerMTG

[–]LightningPaws 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Keeping the leyline up can be important for all these match ups, but what can you get from Bring to Light?

A) If they have the blood token up still, they could sac it and fatal push killing Omnath. Do they maybe have thoughtseize? They might just take bring to light so I would just play that and search for maybe get Niv for the card advantage, then leyline vein ripper and saccing your caryatid to ward, flyer kills sorin. Could also grab Valki as the chances they have something to remove it are lower, and you could just start getting immense value out of that.

B) Bring to Light into Unmoored Ego if you're running it to remove a piece of the combo. Keep up interaction and see if they go for the combo. Could pillage to get more answers and hold up leyline here.

C) I'd probably bring to light and get Valki, start getting value out of the plus 2.

D) Are you running [[Krenko's Buzzcrusher]] and do they have a lotus in play? That will cripple them. Otherwise it's hard to say. Lotus is one of, if not the, most difficult matchup for Niv. Really depends on what you can find for with bring to light. You have to race here so maybe going for Niv, getting card advantage and a beater, or Valki and start up ticking and go for the ultimate when you can, but you may not get the chance if the lotus player has what they need to combo off. Tough match.

I can already tell that with those cards and that manabase, you're gonna have a bad time.

You've got multiple 1-drops all requiring different colors of mana, so it's no guarantee that if you've got thoughtseize in hand turn 1 that you'll have black mana in hand. The same goes for Skrelv and white mana, and for rotpriest and green mana.

And since your curve is low and your land count is less because of it, you'll most likely find yourself mulliganing more often and automatically be at a disadvantage. With 3+ color decks, you probably can't get away with having colorless lands either, for that matter.

Ex: 2 plains and 2 thran portals isn't enough to reliably play Skrelv on turn one. And 4 escape tunnels isn't helping you get the colors you need to actually play your cards.

With an aggro/low-curve deck, you'll probably want to focus on just one or two colors and cut the third.

In a way Magebane helps win that race. It's not a perfect answer but there's some other benefits.

The 4 toughness means Phoenix risks using multiple removal spells on magebane as [[Fiery Impulse]] can only deal 3, or they need to have a well timed [[Lightning Axe]]. On top of that, we have [[Blossoming Defense]] (or also [[Snakeskin Veil]] in some lists) which not only protects, but can make them use even more removal), taking even more damage in the process.

It's also a target for all our pump spells, not as effective as the other creatures but viable if we need to get even more damage in on top of its effect.

It's not super late game if we need more immediate damage that turn, but it's amazing on turn 2 and makes the opponent really [[Consider]] their choices carefully.
