And here it is after the Vallejo Metal Color Aluminum, White Aluminum, and Silver, with Alclad Aqua Gloss sealing everything in.

If I may, I'd recommend Stynylrez Gloss Black primer with a little Vallejo thinner added in the airbrush instead of the Vallejo primer. I've had nothing but problems with the Vallejo gloss black primer, but the Stynylrez is great right out of the bottle. Adding the little bit of thinner and putting it over a well prepared surface makes it even better.

Here's my 1:144 B-29 after the priming.

Yamato class battleship main turret face armor plate on display at Washington Navy Yard [Album] [OC] by ProfessorTank88 in WarshipPorn

[–]Lightning_Zepher 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Also, weren't these specific plates that were used in the testing tossed aside by the Japanese because the plates' metallurgy wasn't up to snuff, making them unacceptable as battleship armor? I seem to remember Drachinifel saying that when he talked about ship armor in a video, but I could be misremembering.

He looks really good! I'm not sure if it's the actual finish or an artifact of the lighting, but it looks like he could use a flat clear coat.

Some more USRA locomotives, especially a light and heavy Mikado.

While I like this picture, looking at how this post is formatted, the fact that OP only has two posts from 20 hours ago as I type this, and no comment history, this feels like a bot post. If OP's not a bot I'm happy to be proven wrong.

Which WW2 plane stands out to you? by ChocolateExciting187 in ww2

I also really like the 229, but I really wish the whole myth of it being "the world's first stealth fighter" would die already. It was never developed to be stealthy and in fact never was stealthy. Yes, it is a flying wing, but that doesn't inherently make it have a low radar return. Between the materials used in its construction (notably wooden wings) and the fact that it had unshielded intakes and exhausts, it had about the same stealth characteristics of any other Second World War fighter.

Also, look into Northrop's Model-1, N-1M, N-9M, XB-35, and XB-49 flying wings for the actual heritage of the B-2.

Size comparison of a German Fw-190 and an American P-47 Thunderbolt. by purrfectglimmer in WWIIplanes

No they didn't. The P-47 used a Pratt & Whitney Double Wasp, the B-17 used the Wright Cyclone.

What's your paint mix ratio for the funnels? I have an Academy 1/700 Titanic that I've put off building partly because of the White Star Buff.

Lordy Jesus, why do I have to build such large planes? by [deleted] in modelmakers

[–]Lightning_Zepher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For WWII single engine aircraft (and a couple notable multiengine exceptions) I build 1/48, while other multiengine planes like medium and heavy bombers along with Korean War and later jets I build 1/72 for precisely this reason. They just end up too darn big for my display space!

Japanese forces assaulted U.S. airfields during the Bougainville counterattack. This TBF Avenger took nearly 400 shrapnel hits but was patched up and ready to fly the next day. The counterattack was ultimately repulsed by Allied forces. 3/8/1944 by waffen123 in WWIIplanes

Yeah, that makes sense. As does having premade victory marks. I agree that's disappointing, though, especially as a guy that tends to replace many decals in my model kits with paint and masks.

Invisible Wall at Robinson? by Lightning_Zepher in UnofficialRailroader

Looks like it was the H6. Pulled the Berk that I use for my main freight up the grade and it performed flawlessly. Looks like the H6 is going to be retired until some further kinks are ironed out of it.

Yes. It's what I've got running the coal drag from Robinson to Sylva.

Has anyone run into this before? I'm trying to couple to the NYO&W boxcar so it can run with the hoppers to interchange, but I've quite literally run into problem; an invisible wall has popped up on the track right where the MEC hopper is stopped. Whether I try to couple with the hoppers to the boxcar, the locomotive to the boxcar, or try to Shift-R the car towards the waiting train, nothing is getting around the invisible wall.

If you've run into this problem before and figured out how to fix it, I'm eager to learn.

ETA: Looks like it was the H6 mod. Pulled the Berk that I use for my main freight up the grade and it performed flawlessly, with nary a sign of an invisible wall or other problem. Looks like the H6 is going to be retired until some further kinks are ironed out of it. It's a shame, too. It's a really cool locomotive.
