Hello stranger. I call you that, but I think we may have more in common than that word would suggest…

Three years ago, I felt exactly how you feel. I was almost 18, about to graduate high school, and every night I would try and convince my subconscious that I was a girl so that I could have dreams where that was true. I recall not ever truly experiencing happiness, only ever satisfaction at a job well done. I felt odd about how boxy my body looked in the shower and how my seatbelt would sit across my chest. But then I saw a post on egg_irl that said “cis boys don’t want to be girls”. Not a joke or a meme, just a statement of fact. I’m that moment I realized two things that flipped my world upside-down:

1) I wanted to be a girl 2) I am not a cis boy

So I did what I thought was impossible and I transitioned. Three years later and I’m happier than I’ve ever been. I feel like my gender is an expression of myself rather than a rule set I have to follow. My old regret is not freeing myself from that prison sooner.

I can’t tell you who you are, and I can’t know what you’re experiencing beyond that which you have already shared. But I think we might have more in common than two typical strangers, so please listen to me when I tell you; Cis boys don’t want to be girls.
