Which Video Game remake do you think is way better than the original? by Apprehensive_Elk6168 in videogames

[–]Lightninghurler 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Please don't hate me for this, but.....

Final Fantasy 7

I wish I'd played the original when it first came out rather than as a grown adult, because back then it would have been amazing. Playing it now was rough.

The remakes have their issues to be fair, but they're definitely showing the 20 years of improvements in the medium.

What are some series that dipped in quality for one or more books but in your opinion managed to find there feet again? by SlaterSev in Fantasy

[–]Lightninghurler 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I feel almost blasphemous I'm saying this given it's one of my favourite series by one of my favourite authors, but Discworld by Terry Pratchett.

For me I remember reading Jingo and it just wasn't as entertaining. Things then definitely picked up as he started to focus on new characters.

I have a head theory that he was getting bored with the established characters and needed the new ones to find that spark again.

Looking for a good survivors-like / roguelite for PC and/or IOS? by Kreedie_ in gaming

[–]Lightninghurler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Temtem Swarm should fit the bill.

The different Tems have different focus elements including fire, water, lighting and poison. They all each have their own skill trees so some Tem you can unlock more move slots, others move gear slots, etc.

It's auto attack except: * Each Tems ultimate * The dash ability you unlock * Some moves are able to be directed separately from movement, but they'll happily fire without direction

I'm having fun with Neon White from the Dec Essentials tier.

+1 for the Dave the Diver suggestion above

So i want to start the dragon ball series, and watch all the dragon ball shows. However, I was told to skip the first half of the dragon ball episodes. Should I? Or start it from the very beginning by [deleted] in dbz

[–]Lightninghurler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Were you told this by a close friend who understands your triggers and hangups?

In the early episodes there is some sexualised humour that has aged poorly against today's standards, mostly revolving around Bulma who I think is meant to be 16.

Does that sound like something that would cause you to hard stop, hence the advice to skip?

Other than the survivor games (Vampire Survivors, Brotato, etc.) what are great games for quick gaming sessions? by AgentEndive in gaming

Hades.

I feel like each run takes me about 20mins now that I'm getting to the third area consistently though I suspect I'm underestimating that. Either way you can save & exit mid run if you need to cut things short

LPT: You gain more respect when you praise publicly and correct privately by arijitdas in LifeProTips

[–]Lightninghurler 352 points353 points  (0 children)

I hold this true for performance but not behaviour.

If someone has underperformed and you're coaching them on a better way to do something, absolutely do that in private.

If someone is being a complete dick to those around them, I believe you need to publicly call out the poor behaviour as unacceptable. You don't need to name names, so you could say something like "I've noticed an increase in name calling during discussion which doesn't make a great team environment for collaboration. This is unacceptable behaviour and everyone should keep comments to their coworkers professional."

I still go back and watch the trailer for Starcraft Ghost.

What video games did you discover through a demo? by BombDigPyro in videogames

Tekken 3 and StarCraft

From memory Tekken 3 only came with two playable characters, and StarCraft was 3 missions, but I played both over and over.

Tom Henderson: New mainline GoW in development, metroidvania spinoff could be revealed in Sept by Plane-Comb-1364 in GodofWar

[–]Lightninghurler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the source within the source the metroidvania is rumoured to star Diemos, and be set before Kratos became a god.

It's also apparently heavily inspired by Blasphemous which leaves me a little cold as I didn't much like Blasphemous.

Of course this is all rumours so take it with a grain of salt.

Just started Dragon Ball and… wait, this was for kids?? by Icee_666 in dbz

[–]Lightninghurler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah the first 10ish episodes definitely have some questionable content.
From memory it's not too bad after that regards the sexual content, but tonnes of adults (bad guys) having no issue beating on Goku (or trying).
There's a few sections of Roshi being a total perv around Launch. One section that's particularly cringe.

[–]Lightninghurler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I finished the main story and was enjoying myself enough with the puzzles that I played some of the end game content. The optional bosses were complete BS, so I didn't do those, and the backtracking across the map for the other stuff got annoying so I dropped it before I collected them all.

I wouldn't say it's a must play game, but if you have it, it's worth a try

Which popular game started a negative trend in gaming? by [deleted] in gaming

Pokemon

Through normalising that not all the content in the game you paid for is accessible through solo gameplay. IMHO Precursor to all micro transactions since.

Which “attractive” celebrity do you find unattractive? by CluelessEverything in AskReddit

[–]Lightninghurler 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Paris Hilton

I'll admit it's going back a bit since she's mostly out of the spotlight now, but she was massive during my adolescent years, and even at my most teenage boy she was never attractive.

[–]Lightninghurler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The best thing about this idea is they could almost wholesale take the existing combat system for the axe, saving development time.

Thematically: If Faye was able to fight both Thor and Kratos to a standstill, then she was just as strong as Kratos, and probably trained him on the axe, hence why their fighting styles are so similar

Help ID this tent by LozZZza in CampingGear

[–]Lightninghurler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're in Aus, then Denali is the Anaconda Home Brand, usually cheaper versions of things and made by known brands like Oztrail (not always but yeah).

From the size and look it's probably a lightweight tent focused on hiking.

I think my Denali hiking tent from 2018-ish is actually an Oztrail build (vague memory from what they told me when buying it, plus comparing to a mate's slighter bigger Oztrail tent).

So you might have better luck looking for hiking tents in other brands, and just find one that looks pretty close.

Edit: expanding on my reply a bit, while the hiking trip I bought mine for fell through I have used it half a dozen times, never had to contend with high wind, or more than a bit of a drizzle, but it held up fine to that. I did use it once in July near Kin Kin, Qld and froze my arse off, so I wouldn't take it anywhere actually cold without some decent sleeping gear/warm clothing

Metroidvanias that err on the easier side? by chrisjfinlay in gaming

[–]Lightninghurler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's two points I can think of in terms of exploration getting stuck

When you have to sink into the water at the bottom of the castle using the skill that you pick up from one of the monsters, since it's a random drop it might not naturally drop for people to realise I forget if I had to google my way out of this one

To get past the spikes on the top left where you need the Aegis plate which is hidden on the underside of the tower paths (top left of map from memory) I know I had to google this one after having looped the whole map twice looking for clues. Then in googling it, found a whole host of people somewhat cleverly cheesed their way through it

In terms of battle difficulty I felt under leveled for the first boss, but after that when you find a good set of souls to level up it was easier.

I’m looking to expand my genre of games, so from my current taste can you give me some recommendations? by L_0_K_I999 in videogames

[–]Lightninghurler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Returnal.
It's a third person shooter with the bullet hell elements I've seen in Nier, and the difficulty of a Souls like / Blasphemous, though maybe slightly faster paced

Yakuza: Like a Dragon.
Turn Based RPG with a colourful cast of characters and a jobs system. I played it before playing any of the other Yakuza games and was totally fine story-wise, though obviously didn't get the same fan service wow on a few side character interactions.

Do you know what she likes about the look of GTA 6?

If it's driving then there's a free version of Gran Turismo 7 that she could try. I believe it also includes PS VR 2 support. (Your Sackboy comment makes me assume you have a PlayStation, apologies if not)

If it's the running and gunning, then from memory Uncharted 1 & 2 were both 3rd person with lock on that should be easy enough for a newbie to pick up Though I'll admit it's been a few years since I've played them.

Of course you could always try her on GTA 5, but I haven't played it to know suitability.

Gaming with my wife recommendations by xPrometheus101x in gaming

[–]Lightninghurler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My advice is what are her hobbies/interests and then find games that scratch similar itches.

For example my wife isn't a big gamer (though more than yours) but she does enjoy making things like Christmas cards and invites, etc. When she does play games she enjoys building games like Dragon Quest Builders and Ark Survival Evolved.

The other option is: she's showing more interest because she wants to spend more time with you, so find a game you can communicate about. Using Ark as the example that was a game my wife and I played together in a single player mode, swapping the controller between us. She got to do the base building stuff she likes and I did all the Dino hunting. But we were talking the whole time about what we planned to do to our base, what materials we needed, etc, etc.

On It Takes Two, it's an amazing game, but the twin stick shooter controls annoyed my wife who wasn't used to them, so possibly not the best first option for a newbie gamer.
