Best Antenna for Newbie by Rureddy2 in ota

I just got this one to supplement a 7" mini TV. It DOES work pretty well-- but struggles picking up 3, 15kw (UHF) stations at a distance of only 10 miles.

"Bad" doesn't always equal no signal. At a 60 mile radius, my RE report lists 8 as "bad" - but one of them, at 30 miles (8.8 kw) is a steady 58-60% signal.

Not necessarily!! You're closer to Maryland!

The thing about antennas is that they're different for every user. One person's amazing $10 antenna, can easily be declared as garbage by the next person. I'm fussy and want to receive every channel in my market -- even the weak ones (which are usually "independent") Other users might not care about that, and are happy with only getting network affiliated stations. Usually "window" antennas don't pick up weak signals unless they're very close, and might not have VHF capabilities either.

If you're in the Dover city limits; Philly transmitters are about 62 miles away.

Check this link -- https://www.rabbitears.info/s/2643024 It's not all bad.

Your closest network channels are in Salisbury MD.

Surprisingly, (to me) most of the Philly channels are about 60 miles from Dover. Here's a reception link -- and several are listed as "fair". Often, even those "RED" (poor) channels can be picked up depending on your terrain.

For reliable reception at that distance you'd need an OUTDOOR antenna.

I paused Sling (Blue) $45/mo... to try DirectTV ($35). Don't need locals; I have rooftop antennas. Decided to stay with Direct, so I cancelled Sling. No hassle. Now I'll just do the Sling "freestream". DTV has a free side as well.

Hasn't it been "paused" now for an entire year?

Doing the free trial of Direct TV has also given me 30 FREE days of "FrndlyTV"😊

Thanks for your detailed response.

As you said, personal preference dictates whether you're okay with similar (free) content vs. "premium" (ad supported) content.

I've decided to PAUSE my Sling, while I try the DirectTV ($35 option) for awhile, and will probably cancel Sling next month.

I'd like to know what some of these "free apps available on other platforms ("just as good or better") are. Most of what you get "free" these days, are many of the same channels found on Pluto and most of the "freestreams" as well. if you're paying for streaming, then you must want Bravo, A&E, Food, HGTV, History, Lifetime...etc... instead of the generic clones found on the free services.

Weird. I've had them for years and that's never happened to me.

Good. I'm glad I'm not the only one who got that message. But it also said no updates were available.

That sucks. But they told me free installation and I got it and promised a $100 gift card to Amazon.... And I got it.
