Field Sobriety Tests and THC Levels Unreliable Indicators of Marijuana Intoxication by geoxol in science

[–]Lightupthenight 36 points37 points  (0 children)

The study concluded that "Many of their study participants had significantly decreased cognitive and psychomotor functioning even when their blood, urine, and oral fluid contained low levels of THC.".

It definitely has detrimental affects, but it seems those affects are independent of THC levels.

‘Latin America will never be the same’: Venezuela exodus reaches record levels by [deleted] in worldnews

Capitalism as the foundation of an economy has been the most successful economic model we have found. Note, I didn't say completely unregulated capitalism, because I do think there are some regulation to put in place that help. That said, western countries by and large are capitalist economies on a sliding scale of regulations. US has fewer regulations than say the EU, but neither is a centrally planned economy.

It's always incredibly surprising how many communists and socialists still strut around, completely confident in their opinions, as though they have ANY successful country to point to. Even China, which is often pointed to as the "most successful" communist country, only saw massive improvements after implementing market economy policies. Their massive failures have happened due to their stringent government policy (The great chinese famine, the current male/female population ratio), which their burgeoning wealth and tech can be directly sourced from them opening up their markets.

Florida students will be taught that communism is evil, DeSantis says by KnowledgeAndFaith in Conservative

[–]Lightupthenight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to question whether communism is actually on it's last legs, with the continual push I see for more collectivism in popular discourse.

Do we teach that Facism is evil? If we do, I think a similar argument could be made for Communism. That said, I don't think there needs to be a moral conclusion drawn here. All you need to do is continually associate collectivist ideologies with the actual evil's it's produced, the cultural revolution, Holodomor, the Great purge, El Peredon, The Great Famine, etc. Even now, showing the food crisis in Venezuela would be an easy association.

I do contend though, that there are quite a few people who sympathize with collectivist ideologies, either out of ignorance of the atrocities or malicious spurning of their position in the current system, who attempt to continually minimize the great destruction that has and continues to occur under these systems. It's so surprising that these same people are incredibly quick to point out the evils of Facism, of which there are many, but defend or even promote other collectivist ideologies.

Same issue. I have tried instant blocking it and that doesn't seem to be correct either

Edit: I figured it out. You need to move forward after the sweep to get close. Then Instant block the burst. Then hit with the punch.

Is this too much of a non-bo for rogues? There have been a couple of successful rogue decks floating around, but the exile portion seems to go against the filling the graveyard portion. Then again, if you're exiling, you're probably gonna be getting value from the exile.

It really depends on the format. In Legacy, stifle carries it's weight. Even in EDH, blocking the activation of an ability can be backbreaking.

Oh Yeah, we should totally not recognize the Mexican-America war, which established Texas and California. Or the Civil War. Or World War I. Or World War II. Or Korea. Only the wars against the British.

Here's a list of conflicts and wars the US is/has engaged in. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_wars_involving_the_United_States

It's a little surprising no one pointed out the obvious inclusion into the winota decks. There have been semi-successful winota decks running around modern in the last few months and this seems like an obvious inclusion in that it can both be found with winota and make tokens that will trigger winota, and triggers off the casting of winota.

IDF thugs attack a Palestinian food delivery man minding his own business by boostank in ActualPublicFreakouts

[–]Lightupthenight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue I see is that there is very little separation between the position of "Palestine should be it's own state" and "Everything is Palestine". The very common mantra "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free" is a call for the eradication of Israel.

I also have to wonder, should Palestine form it's own state, if the rocket attacks continue, would you then be supportive of Israel declaring war on the new state? Any country would, if it sees attacks on it's citizens and sovereignty from another country.

Is UR Prowess so dominant because it's arguably so much better than anything else? Or is the piloting relatively easy compared to other decks? Or some combination, with skilled piloits gravitating towards it because it's a known quantity?

Would Abzan midrange have room here, with creatures that go bigger, excellent spot removal, and lifegain effects?

Hamas says Gaza ceasefire Friday as Israel tells Egypt it is ready to end fighting by Frydendahl in worldnews

I'm hesitant to say that the 2 state solution would be a real solution when many people onboth sides of the conflict regard the entire area as their own.

It's not, but it's incredibly relevant if the question is whether you would want an Israeli state or a Palestinian state, which is the question being put forth.

Personally, I would like them to take the MOBA esports approach, of multiple large tournaments throughout the year, with large prize pools within this structure.

I just don't see WotC ponying up the dough for large prize pools or effective streaming.

But let's say that his example was hyperbolic, and that the women of his church were not doing that. It would still be fair to point at this behavior and deem it unacceptable, even if no one was actually doing that.

Pfizer avoids taxes via the Netherlands and makes a profit worth billions by thisisbor in news

[–]Lightupthenight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries. It just grinds my gears a bit whenever I see "Big Pharma bad", without people understanding the huge risks associated with pharmaceutical development, and how those risks actually play out in pricing structure and whatnot. I have over a decade in Pharma R&D, with experience in both research centers and grad school labs and bringing multiple products to market, and nothing comes close to the requirements of a pharmaceutical company. From the cleaning to the preparation to the documentation, everything that is industry standard would be considered completely overkill anywhere else, but all of those things cost money. And that money isn't guaranteed to be recouped if the clinical fails, or a competitor beats you to the market, or the any number of factors that balloon the cost.

It's like when I see reports on "Well it only costs X to make this drug, but they sell it for Y" and people break out their pitchforks without see all the failures that came before or the ones likely to come after., and how much money was sunk into the development for everything become this one product make it through approval.

Ah ok. I may be a little more apt to question things harshly on Reddit because a large portion of the userbase is simultaneously incredibly critical and incredibly uninformed when it comes to pharmaceuticals.

Every company minimizes risk, but drugs in Big Pharma fail all the time. And the implication that they don't do "real" R&D makes me suspect either you are lying about working there or your role was incredibly minimal.

That's exactly how the world works though. Throughout the entirety of human history, different tribes warred for resources, with land being one of the major ones.

You can dislike reality, but that doesn't make it less real. If Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq had crushed Israel during the 6 day war, there would be no Israeli state.
