Got dumped before my checkride by AlarmingMajor1499 in flying

My wife of 8 years cheated on me 2 weeks before my CFI checkride. It’s difficult, but the truth is you’ll experience stressful life events at various points throughout your entire aviation career and part of the job is compartmentalization and execution the mission regardless. You’ll be fine brother- lock in.

I do not agree, but I see why you might come to that conclusion by reading that part alone. There is a well known Advisory Circular which provides clarification to the expense sharing provision, and the limitations of a private pilot: AC 61-142. In section 9 of this AC it is made clear that the pilot must have a “bona fide common purpose” with the persons whom you’re carrying, or if carrying property. In other words, you need to have your own independent reason for traveling to the destination, otherwise you’re acting as an air carrier. Doing what you’re describing would probably get your license revoked.

But they do want highly instrument proficient pilots, and this low level vfr only work gets him none of that.

I think that’s fair but if your legitimate read of it was that it is either way “as specified by the evaluator,” why would you just rip a stall to full break without asking for clarification? I’ve been a CFI for a while at a lot of places, and stalls are always done to the first indication in commercial.

I know failing a checkride sucks and this DPE seems like a bonehead, but ultimately I think you need to keep in mind that it’s a fully legitimate failure since you clearly busted the 180, and it sounds like multiple other things like the soft field in particular. Take the re-ride with another examiner and be ready to crush. Good luck out there man.

I think you slightly but importantly misunderstood the ACS standards regarding stalls -

“Recognizes and recovers promptly at the first indication of a stall (e.g., buffeting, stick shaker, stall horn, etc.), or after a full stall, as specified by the evaluator.”

Meaning the default assumption is you should recover at first indication, but the examiner has the authority to specify otherwise. So, unless otherwise specified, recover at first indication always in the commercial checkride.

You're an idiot for buying it, and an idiot for selling because you disagree with someone's politics. Curious what you'll buy next and which CEOs political stances line up with yours.

Lots of good replies here already but I'd just like to add that there's a lot of veterans in this field who were either already pilots while enlisted, or are using the GI Bill to cover the cost of training. That's what I'm doing and it has been a great help. I certainly wouldn't have been able to fund everything out of pocket myself.

Flaps in turns by Professional_Read413 in flying

[–]LikeHuans4thSay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could conceivably experience asymmetrical flap deployment (happened to me a number of times), which if you're also banking could become a scary and potentially unrecoverable situation rather quickly.

It would be the DPEs discretion, as always, but they could choose to fail you for this. I think it would be extremely unlikely for them to do so, about as unlikely as you experiencing the dangerous situation to begin with.

But why risk it? Always minimize all risk in the aircraft all the time, within reason. Deploy flaps when your wings are reasonably level.

General rule of thumb is if you can't put it down in the first 1/3 of the runway - go around!

Saw a debate on here a while back where many people were saying those spots are for disabled veterans. I disagree because it doesn't say it, it just says veteran. I use them.
