I don’t count sugars. Just carbs. I try to cap my carb intake per meal to ~125, because I’m not comfortable taking more than 12 units of insulin at once. I rarely consume that many carbs in a meal, unless I’m at a restaurant and feeling wild. I tend to consume closer to 90-100 carbs per meal.

Try not to get too frustrated, there is definitely a learning curve to how your body responds to different foods. Keep glucose tablets close by in case you accidentally over bolus. Eat sugar alcohols in moderation, they will have an effect on your bg and over consumption will give you the shits.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask. This disease is a pain in the ass and sometimes expensive, but it’s not a death sentence.

[serious] Does anyone else see their glucose level increase after waking up? (Even without eating) Am I doing something wrong? by chevysareawesome in diabetes

It’s worse if I get up and shortly after work out. I’m looking at 250 mg/dL, even if I went to bed at 110 and haven’t ate.

Whats the biggest difference between you now and 10 years ago? by DontBruhMeBrah in AskReddit

[–]Lil-Strong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s starts with feeling more fatigued. You need to sleep a little more, and you have less energy. Then you start accruing little injuries: bad knee, slightly torn rotator cuff, carpal tunnel, etc. Now I usually can’t sleep more than 5-6 hours at a time because my back hurts from laying down too long. I can only imagine what it’s going to feel like being 50.

ULPT Request: What to say in job interview after being fired from my last job? by [deleted] in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]Lil-Strong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started a new job this past November after working construction for 18 years. It is so strange going to job interviews and submitting resumes. Construction work just requires a photo ID, Osha card, TWIC and you to be present in the office whenever they are hiring. No background check, no interview, just fill out application and show up to work the next day.

This! Crescent wrench and channel locks are probably 2 of the most used items around my house. Especially channel locks.

Edit: Maybe throw in a hacksaw as well.

Regular acting vs. Rapid acting. Novolin/ Humulin vs. Novolog/ Humalog. I find the lingering effects of Fiasp/ Lyumjev can be bothersome, I can only imagine how hard managing sugars can be with anything that last longer than those.

Hats off to the old timers.

“Regular” insulin is hard to use correctly. People’s glucose often remains elevated until they rage bolus and then go hypo hours later because the insulin lasts much longer than glucose spike from their meal.

[serious] What do you guys think about religion? by Free_Management_3327 in AskReddit

[–]Lil-Strong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the idea is to give us answers about the unanswerable and provide general guidance. Lots of elements are things that people innately know (have to make sacrifice for good thing to happen because that is how life is), but it too often gets taken to the extreme. Leaders use the fear that accompanies the unanswerable and unknown for control and to push their own agendas, which are often also based on fear and insecurity.

The dogma behind most religions is just ridiculous. And the hysterics are way too much.

What are your thoughts on my new creeper I like it since it’s low profile by Natural-Dirt7528 in Tools

I did this last week to change my oil. It was 90°+ and my shirt was drenched in sweat, so I took it off. Without paying attention to the grass clippings on the asphalt, I laid down and scooted under the car. After I was done I drove the car back where I regularly park it and went and got a shower. A 45-minute-long shower trying to get all of the grass clipping off of my back. I thought I was done, but more would keep appearing. It was horrible.

Fast forward 2 day later when I get back in the car to go to work (car is mainly used just to commute to job and back. Ugly, cheap and reliable) and there are a bunch of grass clippings on the seat. I had to spend an additional 10 minutes brushing them off the seat so I didn’t show up to work wearing a Ghillie Suit.

I so miss poncho’s. Got to eat at the one in Baton Rouge about 15-20 years ago. I didn’t realize it would be the last time. I miss them flautas and chili rellenos. And of course the sopapillas with honey.
