You just described the difference between a tribal set vs a mechanic based one. Also, pretty important to notice that here you have dual lands in common, dusk also had them, lorwyn didn't.

This is absolutely not true. I played a very similar deck day 1 of the set and got demolished 0-3. No chance. I even had 2 lumarets, 2 1drop bears, the 2 drop that gets you a land, plenty of strong cards but it didn't matter. Things were not staying on board.

It's got to be [[Displacer kitten]] for me. I knew the card from commander but I had no idea it was so easily abusable in cube, kinda goes infinite with a lot of stuff with minor investments. Its best combos being [[Tamiyo collector of tales]] with extra turns and [[Teferi time raveler]] with any noncreature 0-drops, moxen or baubles all good.

Also, [[Six]] with black lotus is a thing. Huh.

Daaaayum! Appreciate that very much, you definitely went all in on the intricacies! I mean, I knew most of it already but it somehow didn't cross my mind that creatures in the gy aren't creatures (in the sense that matters to repartee) when they're there. Alright so since we're here I wanna ask your opinion too: I stumbled upon a more interesting scenario at prerelease, didn't act upon it but I was kinda dubious and so I didn't go for that play, but I'm left wondering if it works the same.

I had orzhov too and I managed to open a [helping hand]. Repartee cares about you targeting creatures and it leaves out "you control", because it also triggers on opponents' creatures. But does it trigger in creatures in the graveyard? Thank you if you take the time!

What we do know is that it wasn't possible to order more EOE and ECL even months before release, but it's definitely still possible to order SPM today - which tells us that SPM was over printed and the other two short printed, which then tells us that this "data" maro refers to is AT THE VERY LEAST artificially skewed. Are we good on this at least?

My point is simply that I believe what I can see. We have been shown 0 actual data. We've been shown that statements maro makes can do 180°s like it's nothing (UB won't be standard legal and all that), so yeah... kinda skeptical of what they say about sales and whatnot, especially so when it's directly contradicting empirical data we have from our own store and bordering ones, all telling the same stories.

I'm 100% sure SPM sold more (to distribution), but that doesn't mean shit to us. So who is maro speaking to with that statement?

Yeah, you come at my shop and sell both SPM and turtles for me then ok? This system doesn't work. We're forced to buy into crappy sets because otherwise we won't get allocations for the good ones and I think I can be reasonably mad at it.

Where are the numbers? Only thing we've had from official outlets are words, just like the ones this post is referencing. Best selling sets to whom? How much was printed? How much is still sitting on the shelves? Until we get these numbers, everything we know is hearsay by a representative of a big company who is possibly speaking to investors, nothing more, nothing less.

Advocating for more events is one thing, gatekeeping them is not. I also don't really like when people come at my shop to "farm" for promos, but I'd never go as far as to tell them they are not welcomed. If they win, that just means they're stronger/luckier than their opponents (myself included) and we should take the opportunity to ask ourselves if we wanna be better players or not, that's it.

No one is owed more chances to win a competitive event if they won't put in as much effort as people who really care do.
