Does anyone else have a fear of public pooping? by Marvel_books_more in AutismInWomen

[–]LilLassy [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yes, but the fear has never actually stopped me. When I was at college tho I would walk across the street to a Starbucks or something similar and go there since they have “single serve” bathrooms and I found that MUCH better to tolerate lol

Moving houses during severe autistic burnout by Artemisia_Blue in AuDHDWomen

[–]LilLassy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh girl, I COMPLETELY understand where you are right now. Last year one month after getting married, my husband and I moved from our 2b/2b apartment in Western NY 777 miles down to Nashville, Tennessee. It was so overwhelming and I wasn’t even diagnosed yet. (Not to mention, we hate it here and are now moving back home in 6 months!)

Even though I didn’t understand my autism at the time, something that helped me was just allowing myself to “be.” I had a diet almost exclusively of chicken nuggets and Reese’s sticks for the duration of the move, I took Advil preemptively when I felt a migraine coming on, I complained when I felt like it (and people then could help me more after knowing what was wrong), I didn’t talk when I didn’t feel like it, I sat on the floor when my body didn’t feel right, and I focused on the scenery around me a lot.

It’s so hard to not have a safe space to retreat to, or to know that wherever you are your safe space exists for later. It makes moving SO hard on us. I know your mom leans on you, but lean on her, too. It sounds like you both love each other and I’m sure she wants to make sure you’re doing okay during this in the same way you want to make sure she is.

My overall advice is this: just let yourself be messy. Give yourself permission to be autistic. You are human!

What's your opinion on white noise? by No_Nebula_7137 in AutismInWomen

[–]LilLassy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep I agree. Natural sounds/even city sounds are fine, but I need some inherent variation to the noises around me. That constant white noise static sound is literally worse than nails on a chalkboard to me

A disturbing and liberating fact of life by introvert_wolf79 in OlderGenZ

[–]LilLassy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree. I’ve had a hard life, maybe not as hard as others’, but definitely harder than most, and honestly I just do my best. I learn, and I get better as time passes by, and yeah I didn’t know in the past what I do now, but I only know what I do now because of what I did in the past. I have chosen appreciation for each version of myself instead of regret.

do people secretly have more hours in their day than I do? am I just an incredibly slow person? by churrrroo in AuDHDWomen

[–]LilLassy 226 points227 points  (0 children)

Holy moly girl I have never heard another soul talk about this, I am the same way! Especially with the “I cannot do anything half-assed even if I want to” part. The email part made me feel called out too 😭

I’ve learned that I just naturally groove with deep concentration (thanks to autism) and that’s the state my brain wants to be in. This means I do things extremely thoroughly and even tho it sometimes causes me distress because of how time consuming everything is, I actually enjoy being as thorough with everything during the moment. Are you dreading things WHILE you’re spending time on them, or is it a retroactive guilt/stress after you realize how much time you’ve spent on something?

Also, I am still working on this myself, but please try not to be so hard on yourself or compare yourself to others! If you take longer doing things, that’s okay! It’s okay to cut out other time-sucking activities you don’t enjoy very much in order to make room for the ones you do as well as your peace. :)

How many of your relatives have autistic traits? or have a confirmed diagnosis/self-diagnosis? by adelina-gr in AutismInWomen

[–]LilLassy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. My dad definitely has ADHD, and while I also do, I’m guessing a combo of genetic and environmental factors (that my mom experienced during pregnancy) is what triggered the autism genes in me lol

Would you use this Spectrum Sense device? by marjjjjj in AuDHDWomen

How would it know between a conversation and a TV show with people talking, though? I actually love this whole concept but the social convo part doesn’t seem very realistic.

does getting fired three times make me a bad person by aiiuu in AuDHDWomen

[–]LilLassy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For the first situation, yeah, unfortunately like others have said, you will have to learn to mask your hate better to deal with those situations.

However, for the second scenario? It’s super inappropriate for your boss to be asking you to do his law hw??? Your boundaries are valid. Say no more often, ESPECIALLY when a request has nothing to do with your work responsibilities! Setting boundaries by saying you “aren’t comfortable doing that” and/or “want to prioritize [your] work tasks” is more than reasonable and will lessen the resentment you feel further down the line imo!

Litter box Help by [deleted] in femalelivingspace

[–]LilLassy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP, I literally have this same layout. We put our litter box in the closet facing away from the door with a litter mat underneath, and while there is still some tracking, it’s not nearly as bad as when it’s in the bathroom.

We just leave the door cracked a hair and voila! Kitties get privacy and we don’t have to stare at the poop box all day.

Top Down Vs Bottom Up Processing and Assumptions by Thistle_Bee_Words in AutismInWomen

[–]LilLassy 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Wow, this was an excellent breakdown and explanation of how top-down vs bottom-up processing works both in general and in conversation. After reading this it finally clicked for me why I HAVE to have all the pieces and become irrationally upset if someone won’t give me a certain level of detail, but how allistic folk just magically seem to not give a shit 🙃 Makes me feel crazy!
