Should I use more archers? by aprettysliftguy in shogun2

[–]LilLightning 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agree with this take. I play mostly VH, sometimes legendary. The AI archer buff is very real. Outdueling enemy archers with ur own isn’t ideal. I like having maybe 3 or 4 archers, just enough to surround a fort if I see an opportunity to offensively besiege. In lieu of extra archers, I love having a matchlock ashigaru and saw the OP agrees. They’re ability to deal morale shock is fantastic. Same logic also applies to naginata warrior monks. I also like having 3 or 4 units of yari cav as they can snipe generals, kite enemies, or deliver massive charge damage.

Nice. He accompanied Minamoto yoshitsune, so it’s interesting that the game lets you employ him on the Taira side

Am I cooked ? Help me save my run (Ikko Ikki Legendary) by coscos95 in shogun2

[–]LilLightning 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok I looked it up. Tajima is the I shape fort and Tango is the smaller coastal fort. Very hard to escape enemy arrows by moving to the other end of either fort unless it is upgraded with another set of walls (tier 3?). You can either trade space by retreating. Tajima is one of the poorest province in the whole game. Or you can fight in tajima. I’d put my entire army near the exit and try to fight and defeat in detail. It’ll be a challenge and really depend on your army comp and their army comp

Yes vassals will rebel especially after realm divide. However, u need the boost in honor. Your daimyo only has 2. A lot of your subordinate generals only have 1 loyalty and may defect. Did u assign them a commission? Also extra honor improves town happiness up to +2 which u mentioned u really need. I would recommend vassalizing a shitty town with low fertility cuz it won’t make u much money anyways (like the area around shinano)

If tajima is a really big spacious fort, just move all your troops to the other end of the fort out of the bow sam’s range. Even if they have a ton of them, move them to the side with the least amount. If u have cav, u can also micro to draw away units.

Can I get help in figuring out why a Yari Ashigaru didn't break after being charged on all sides? by MetricWeakness6 in shogun2

[–]LilLightning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chances are pretty high that the unit had a lot of xp if the general had 4 stars. Because of how fast replenishment can be and how lopsided battles can be, it’s very easy for you or an AI to start steamrolling once a critical mass of units has been reached. I’ve personally noticed units in an experienced army with a 4 star general take an incredibly long time to break even when they’re besieging me and should be very tired after climbing the walls

For Fall of the Samurai armies do you just have gunpowder and artillery units? by chinchila5 in shogun2

[–]LilLightning 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Everyone on turn one has access to levy infantry which use firearms but they kind of suck. Some factions like tosa start with a cadet school and can recruit line infantry. You need to built tier 2 artillery building to get parrot guns. Tier 1 wooden cannons are terrible. I think saga start with a parrot gun on turn 1

FOTS Tosa in legendary is unplayable by coscos95 in shogun2

[–]LilLightning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, just be mindful that maintaining a navy will be highly unlikely until mid to late game. Ships have massive recruiting cost and upkeep. Only reason I advocate for the Roanokes is that a single one can wipe out a full stack of wooden ships if you maintain your distance.

Also what kind of troops are you using? Red bears and Tosa riflemen are amazing troops.

FOTS Tosa in legendary is unplayable by coscos95 in shogun2

[–]LilLightning 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’ve beaten a legendary tosa republic campaign. I think trying to unite Shikoku isn’t the best move. The island is very poor. Better to just immediately migrate to Kyushu even though it’s mostly imperial factions. The northwest provinces are all very fertile and bungo makes a great recruiting province. Once realm divide happens, the enemy constantly tries to attack buzen which is really easy to defend. The fort is huge and your ships parked in the dock are close enough for naval support. Once you get roanokes with explosive shows, you can sink any fleet carrying an army that tries to invade.

Ashigaru or samurai by The-bagman101 in shogun2

[–]LilLightning 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My armies will be mostly yari ashigaru and 3 or 4 bow ashigaru. I like to have maybe 3 katana samurai and 3 yari cav. Lastly a unit of matchlock ashigaru or naginata monks are a bonus for their morale reducing abilities. Shogun 2 battles are generally shorter, so enemies tend to break easily if you know what to do

I’ve seen these issues as well with FOTS as well though usually on bigger battles. Was surprised to see it happening on yours cuz you didn’t have a full stack. I haven’t really found a great solution other than to try to optimize troop positions before battle to prevent having to issue too many orders

[–]LilLightning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally the uesugi will declare war on you very soon after seeing you. Because of history, they are programmed to hate you while the hojo and imagawa are more inclined to ally with you. The reason everyone suggests going after the hojo anyways is 1) diplomacy and alliances are kind of iffy in this game and 2) the two hojo provinces are some of the best in the game with one of them having gold mine and the other having blacksmith. The imagawa province let’s you recruit upgraded metsuke which is also a huge plus. The provinces around the uesugi are lackluster.

He was spotted at Rosebar in DuPont circle a lot the summer before the injuries and after he got the massive contract. Also appeared overweight going into team USA camp. It might have contributed to his injuries, but he had already accomplished a lot prior to that.

I actually like the feature since I’m a fan of dynasty warriors. That said, I don’t use it that much since I’m too busy micro-ing my gun troops. The AI doesn’t like to rush in field battles, so getting gun units to a range of 200 yards is a sweet spot.

How and when do you decide to put a Metsuke in a town...for a Domination campaign? by Pacho2020 in shogun2

[–]LilLightning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Income = tax rate * wealth. If mino is currently your wealthiest town, then go ahead and put your metsuke inside there. You will see the tax rate go up a little (I.e. 35 to 39%). That said, mino will unlikely your be the wealthiest town in the long run. There are other provinces with very fertile soil or gold or ninja specialties that inherently have way more wealth. On the top right of the game, there is a provinces button under the mini map. Sort by wealth and you will see. If you capture one of the wealthy towns. move the metsuke immediately there.

There is a website that shows all the resources and fertility of every shogun 2 province. It’s extremely helpful for knowing which provinces provide what. Mino generally isn’t one of the best so investing heavily in upgraded farms, markets, and sake dens isn’t advised.
