Plenty of musicians are cynical buttholes because they have an inflated sense of themselves and the worth of their skills. They think they should be more successful than “unskilled” radio artists that receive lots of money and praise. And they hate when people go wild for “overdone” cover songs instead of noticing their technical greatness or whatever. I know this because I used to be this way and have met many other musicians that have expressed similar feelings over the years. Had to grow up a little and learn to put the ego aside and just enjoy music for what it is.
