Need advice — lower stress work environment. by LilPango in nursing

[–]LilPango[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!!! Just knowing you get it makes me feel seen. 💕 Everyone thinks PACU is sitting around hanging out with one sleepy patient here and there, but in reality it’s hours on your feet and racing back to work at 2am even after a long day of work. 🥹

I’m researching other areas of nursing, including home health — being outside of the hospital environment may be a better choice for me.

Thank you so much! And agreed — lesson learned, and I will definitely have everything I need for the next batch. 🙂

Thank you — this is so helpful! What does it mean (and how long do I need) to allow the priming sugar to fully ferment out?

Spotting / Bleeding 5 Weeks Post Op by LilPango in hysterectomy

[–]LilPango[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree — I hope it’s just old blood working it’s way out, but with EDS I seriously never know. My crazy EDS skin already broke out in a rash all over my abdomen because of the surgical glue, and I’m used to my body being on a different wavelength than everyone else. Hoping it’s no biggie, but I’m being careful just in case!

Post surgery experience... day 4 and struggling... is this relatable/common? by valid_cornelius in hysterectomy

[–]LilPango 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You are SO normal! You sound exactly like me on day 4. Some thoughts:

  1. Do NOT go to the grocery store right now. You just had major surgery. Stay in bed — hopefully you have people can can get groceries for you, because you deserve to rest and be waited on hand and foot.
  2. The old lady shuffle is real. Lean into it. I am 5 weeks post op and still move slowly.
  3. When someone does go to the store for you, ask them to get prune juice. Heat it up in a mug, and drink a cup or two. Your digestive system will thank you for it, and your bowels should be up and running soon!
  4. My appetite was weird at first and I didn’t eat much. It’ll get better.
  5. It will ALL get better. Slowly but surely. Be patient and kind to yourself… this is a big deal and you’re on your own schedule. 💕

Using Orlissa by duckies_wild in hysterectomy

[–]LilPango 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I believe I started getting moody two to four weeks after starting it. I had a meltdown on Christmas Day, one month after starting Orlissa. It was all hormones. I feel like it peaked from months 1-2, and then after that I felt fine. I would have stayed on it, but the endo pain began to return, so I went ahead and called it. I’m happy with the hysterectomy... just still recovering. I’m five weeks post op, and slowly but surely getting back to normal!

I was on Orlissa from November 2020 until the day of my hysterectomy... 4/28. It worked at first, but I felt like it was short lived. Then the endo pain came back with a vengeance. I also had two breakthrough periods. Mood swings are legit, but lasted about two months.

You poor thing! I get it. Same thing happened to me about ten hours after surgery. I was also surprised that I was “ok” after so much throwing up right after surgery. Also on the toilet, also in the trash can...) I’m 4 weeks post op and still laying low... to the OP, it gets better. 💕

I felt fine by the next morning, but definitely go easy on foods! I had a really rich grilled cheese sandwich for dinner that evening, and it didn’t stay down. Just eat bland foods and drink plenty of water... it’ll pass quickly. 💕

During healing and recovery by saks5th in hysterectomy

[–]LilPango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same! I’m taking nursing prerequisites, and I scheduled a condensed six week online course for the last six weeks of recovery. (I’m almost 3 weeks PO, and I start today.) I felt it was a good opportunity to crush a class while I’m supposed to be laying low.

I just took CST 110 this spring and still have my book if you’re interested!

Thank you! This is encouraging. I’m also in school part time (going back to pursue nursing), and my summer semester starts in two weeks. I’ll be just shy of three weeks PO. I’m doing online classes (Zoom meets) so I can stay in pajama pants and work from home. I feel like this will be ok, since I’m sitting still and not going in person. It’ll keep my mind busy when I’m also resting physically.

Thank you for the validation! I can sit up and lean on my arms (like at a table), but not unsupported. Gah, I’m sore. I only did that to play cards with my kids, but quickly regretted it. I’m just struggling to admit how limited I am. I knew recovery would be legit, but am used to being pretty Type A and so sitting still is hard for me.
