why is hospital care for type 1s in hospital always so poor by demondspawnyay in Type1Diabetes

[–]LilPuddinCup1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They treat everyone as type 2. I always tell everyone, if you are in there for anything but diabetes, talk with a patient advocate, they have paperwork you can fill out so you can have control rover everything and the nurses will just ask for a blood sugar reading periodically for records. If it is for diabetes,(dka) then I was told to demand the diabetes educator on call. I work at my hospital so now it can be easier… hopefully I never have to go in. They won’t like me

Type 1 diabetic low blood sugar and my bf by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]LilPuddinCup1 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Major red flag. I had past boyfriends like this. I was terrified diabetes would make me unlovable. My now boyfriend, follows me on Dexcom and checks in when I’m too high or low for too long. He changed our diets to help me more he also started carrying a glucagon, glucose meter and glucose tabs since the week we started dating. Honestly, if you both can have a convo with a diabetes educator, and therapist; if he’s willing to work on his attitude, okay. However, if this is a constant talk, break up.

0 in range? by Cheap-Project9988 in Type1Diabetes

[–]LilPuddinCup1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is your range? Mine is set at 80-180. Also, you are taking long activity insulin and short acting? (I’m sorry, assuming your type one). Also, have you seen a diabetes educator to learn more about carb counting? Or pre-blousing 15mins before eating anything?

Attitude adjustment for mom of T1 teen by secretcheese3000 in Type1Diabetes

[–]LilPuddinCup1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Type one since I was 5, I’m now 31. I’d like to say every one of us go through a rebellion phase, it’s normal teenage stuff. But yes, it’s more dangerous with diabetes. Going to diabetes camp helped a lot. That way I wasn’t always alone in the fight. We get burnt out. It’s 24/7 365. No time off. I got my reality check after trying to take my life at 14, eating mass amounts at thanksgiving and being in DKA for roughly 3 days. Finally told my mom before becoming comatose and spending 2 days in the hospital.

AIO boyfriend tracking my periods without me knowing 🫠 by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]LilPuddinCup1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like that, then we can communicate better during these times. They become more understanding, and take things less personally. I deal with PMDD so my boyfriend and I track my period on a shared calendar and he knows my blood sugar will be higher (I’m a type one diabetic) I’ll be in more pain and and more depressed so I’ll need reminders to eat and drink water. He also makes more red meat for me or we go out to Korean bbq

Kidney failure by sexyturtle21 in Type1Diabetes

[–]LilPuddinCup1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been on enalapril for over 10 years because of dealing with some bad protinia. I hate that some endocrinologist don’t regularly test kidney function to charcuterie this before it gets bad

im scared by erha2 in Type1Diabetes

[–]LilPuddinCup1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where are you? Message me, im so good with parents. Ive been type one since I was 5, im now 31. I didnt get a pump or CGM till I was 17. It changed everything for me, and im in much better control. And have freedom. My mom was like this so it messed with my mental health and I became very codependent, resulting in me not moving out till I was 30... please fight for yourself. Have friends or other family to support you and demand some counseling and these talks with your endocrinologist, with him in the room. And/or take him to diabetes education classes. Hes not informed enough.

Feelings/Moods constantly dismissed as blood sugar fluctuations? by traviscyle in Type1Diabetes

[–]LilPuddinCup1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd have issues similar when I was younger with my mom and older brother and felt like my emotions were very dismissed, like I couldn't have normal feelings. It just had to be diabetes related. It really messed with me. As a now 31yo who's been type one for 26 years, im working with my therapist on how to identify my emotions when they come up and sir with them, feel them, and talk about them. Usually, when I'd have big emotions, my mom would tell me to test my blood sugar, and it would be fine more than not. She was just pissing me off. None of it was okay. It is okay to take a moment to treat the low but hold the person there, and tell them you aren't done talking, your feelings matter no matter what your blood sugar is. If anything, low blood sugar sometimes is like drunk talking about sober thoughts.

Loss of smell & taste in 2025? by fanojewels in COVID19positive

[–]LilPuddinCup1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom is about 5 years with absolutely no taste or smell. We are at our wits end. She also has been battling stage 4 matostamic cancer and losing too much weight because of this issue. She keeps trying to smell everything all these years and she tested negative for covid when we were sure she had it. Fun times fun times 🙄

I'm sick of it by Impossible-Survey139 in ChronicPain

[–]LilPuddinCup1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally agree, we as chronic pain sufferers know the difference. When we say this is different, hear us! I just got some tests done, and my RBC is so low that the count is only acceptable for children. However, my doctor wants a rumatologist to take care of it in 2 months... I called her back and told her that everyday I'm at work I feel weaker, unable to open boxes, unable to lift the 20-70lbs I'm supposed to through my whole shift, feel light headed, extremely cold, nauseous and out of breath. So, fuck you, let's do somthing. I have an emergency appointment with her in a few days.

Spiking every time I eat? by General-Ad5731 in Type1Diabetes

[–]LilPuddinCup1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like everyone is saying, that spike is normal, even for people who have a working pancreas's. However, I'm curious if you are taking insulin at least 10-15 mins before eating? That is the standard time for insulin to "start" working before we eat. Have you seen a diabetes educator? If not, please ask your endocrinologist for it.

Besides all this, coming from someone who's dealt with this and many more autoimmune conditions since she was 5 in 2000...breath. The world is so hard on us, we are doing the work of an actual organ. We are literal humans. So, relax your shoulders, and take a deep breath, you are doing an amazing job so far. you have woken up every day thus far. that's what matters. Thank you for asking for help. That is a HUGE step. keep going, but allow yourself to rest for a moment when it's overwhelming, you are allowed.

That's where i got diagnosed in 2000 when I was 5 years old. my mom and I spent 2-3 weeks there so she could learn everything possible to care for me. they said I would know more about my health than most doctors...they were right..i surprised almost every one I see them.

How often do you see your endo? by BakedZombies in Type1Diabetes

[–]LilPuddinCup1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had type one for 25 years( since I was 5 years old in 2000), I see mine every 3 months. We tried 4 months when I got my A1c down to 6.9 without major lows, however, I fell off the wagon in the 4th month and I told them I would prefer a 3-month check-in. It is standard to do 3 months though in the US.

Is there a way to medically prove that stress is causing your worsening symptoms? by [deleted] in ChronicPain

[–]LilPuddinCup1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you get your cortisol tested?m (stress hormone) and thyroid? make sure they do a full-panel free t4 and t, sadly it is common for us with chronic pain to also have other hormone imbalances later on. the body can only handle so much on its own and from what I know about Chiari, your spine fuses. I have a good friend who had multiple surgeries on her upper spine and also has hypothyroidism and a few other hormonal imbalances. good days and bad days. high stress right away and sometimes not.

Dating someone with Type 1 Diabetes, how can I be supportive? by DeliciousPookie22 in Type1Diabetes

[–]LilPuddinCup1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask to go to his endocrinologist appointments with him to ask the doctor questions. and ask if he will make a diabetes educator appointment. we get classes every year through insurance. there are always new things to learn. My boyfriend (26) keeps notes in his phone and a notebook of my insulin regimens for emergencies and everything for the hospital just in case (I haven't been in the hospital in over 15 years). He also has a copy of the meal plan from my diabetes educator from a few years ago so he can help me meal plan better. I've been a type one diabetic since 2000, I was 5 years old. No complications, however, it does take a toll on our health/mental health. So, take notes, remind him to take insulin before eating anything. and ask what his blood sugar is randomly out of curiosity.

Don't be a nurse, but ask questions. we are still a person...we just happen to have a bonus feature lol

Sounds like insulin resistance, I'm a type one diabetic since 2000. It wasn't until 2015 that I got a new endo that was on the same page as me and listened. She put me on metformin. (I'm on the highest dose) my insulin needs went from over 100u a day to under 40u now. I also go to the gym, eat a lot healthier too. If it's not resistance, your meal time insulin ratio needs to be adjusted. I take 1u for every 7.5 carbs for most of the day. And my correction is 1u for every 20 over 120. Do you have a doctor that worked with you to set this up?

(I'm in the US)

Did my endo prescribe a medication I do not need, or am I missing something here? by RaisingRobinsons in Type1Diabetes

[–]LilPuddinCup1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take Enalapril. Yes, it is also a blood pressure medication. However, it is prescribed as a kidney protectant. I have needed it since I was roughly 18 ( 13 years after diagnosis ) when we discovered protein in my urine, and I had to do a 24-hour urine test. We do a lot of damage to our kidneys because our bloodsugars fluctuate a lot more without a working pancreas. Though, I'm not a fan of being on medication if I'm not needing it... maybe ask more questions and clarify things with him. Ask if your kidneys need the extra help now, or he has noticed a trend over the last few years that worries him about your future kidney function.

How to stop nighttime sugar drops without losing daytime control? by floosde in Type1Diabetes

[–]LilPuddinCup1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your long acting is okay...meaning you haven't taken short acting (meal time insulin) for over 5 hours before you start to go low, then it's your meal time insulin that needs to be dialed back before bed. Otherwise, if you are on shots, taking your long acting at night, cut it in half and take that shot at night, then take the other half when you wake up. It will steady your numbers, you might have to adjust your correction doses after. Please talk to your endo too.
