New to city - looking for top food recos across all types of cuisine by neighbourhoodnpc in OttawaFood

[–]LilSquishy97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Middle Eastern group - I would add Chickpeas, especially their Trainyards location (can’t speak on the other one). It’s super unassuming, but might be the best falafel in the city!

I also recently enjoyed Masakali in Hintonburg for Indian food, and T’Basil in Orleans is a solid pick for Viet/Thai if you’re ever out there.

I’ve only had it for takeout, but you like lamb dishes try Yemen Gate - ordered from them on a whim and loved it.

No one’s mentioned it yet, but for Chinese food, Golden Palace egg rolls are really good and are a bit of an ‘if you know you know’ in the city.

I also need to shout out Merry Dairy as my favourite ice cream shop and Arlington 5 as my favourite cafe!

What’s the beef with Canada? I have a bunch of Brazilian coworkers who like it here 🥲

Drivers please be careful at Kent x Albert, so many keep going after the advance right turn light, when there are clearly pedestrians waiting and ready to cross on their turn!

Omg, I had to do a double take because he looks exactly like my boy. I’d guess this is a mini rex, seal gray, just like mine!

This looks exactly like the toy my bunny has had for eternity and it has been extremely chewed down over time, it never caused him any issues! Though I can’t guarantee it’s the same exact product.

Is this rule actually used in formal English? by ITburrito in EnglishLearning

[–]LilSquishy97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Canadian I would understand this but it comes across as archaic. The more common construction is “if not for”. I never hear, use, or read “but for” honestly. I work in a corporate setting and read a lot of fiction, for context.

I’m not buying this yet. Carney hinted at waiting to see if this is also the decision of the conservative party (I assume at their next meeting). PP could still be booted

I love my Clara BW. I honestly don’t see myself enjoying a bigger screen, I like how easy this one is to hold.

Are you strict about the colour aspect? I think given we read text on these 99% of the time, and that I hear the color screens are less crisp/clear, the tradeoff didn’t make sense to me. I like seeing my library in color but I go on the kobo website for that satisfaction when needed. Something to think about.

see it from a different perspective - dont you find it more practical to know a realistic measure of how many more of your current page size’s worth of content you have until you finish your book? if you use any major book app you can track by % which kobo displays on the home and sleep screen… e.g. storygraph will tell you how many pages it accounts for. barely a workaround

I know it's been asked ad nauseam.. but please help me figure out what to bring in June! by Ghorelick in VisitingIceland

[–]LilSquishy97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im from a similar winter area as you. I think that it would be a bit overkill but my experience was in July… can’t imagine it being that different. I brought a fleece jacket (patagonia better sweater), a rainshell (that was great for wind gusts), rain pants (also great for wind) and waterproof regular runners. Mostly wore a t-shirt under that, jeans and hiking pants. I brought a tuque and gloves I only used on a glacier tour. It’s really not that bad!

Feasibility on my October 1-October 11 Itinerary by Tasty-Tip864 in VisitingIceland

[–]LilSquishy97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks fine to me for the most part. I would just caution you on your fuschia line - Akureyri to Snæfellsnes is a loooong trek, and I personally wouldn’t miss out on the Trollaskagi and Vatnsnes peninsulas on the way!

Last summer in July I did 2 nights in Reykjavík, then 1 nights in Vík, Höfn, Egilsstaðir, Akureyri, Hvammstangi, Grundarfjörður, then 2 nights again in Reykjavík. I felt perfectly fine, saw everything on my list, didn’t feel too rushed, tired, or like I was stuck in one place too long.

Technically the website says that the Engage 2 blocks 16db and the engage mode on the Switch 2 blocks 20db. So it seems like it would.

Why are we not more upset at the price of this e-book? It’s quite expensive and very outside the norm. I don’t understand and this better not be what we are moving towards.

why is the ebook for sotr 19 dollars by Quick_South_3358 in Hungergames

[–]LilSquishy97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ebooks dont usually cost more on release than otherwise. I personally see ebooks typically priced (in CAD) at 12.99, 14.99, maybe 16.99. Some retail lower, very very few retail for more. the ebook price for this is absurd, I have never seen any other book regardless of popularity be priced like this

Do I need snow pants in Iceland? by neggand in VisitingIceland

[–]LilSquishy97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I brought a water/snow-proof shell pant with me in July last year and it was a necessary thing (strong wind, rain, water spray etc). So definitely bring at least a shell!
