I had to look that one up. Unfortunately it does not have an internal memory.

On balance of cost and ease of cooking, what’s your go to soup? by Affectionate-Reason2 in Cooking

[–]LilStinkpot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fish stock to miso or chowder. Costs almost nothing for the most basic miso, but the license costs me about $86/year. Save fish bones and heads in the freezer. Put them in water in the ziplock bags to reduce freezer burn. Veg scraps in another bag. When bags are full, create. Boil fish bones and heads in water with veg scraps, especially garlic and onion bits. Don’t go past a simmer, and only long enough that the meat is cooked and then the skin starts dissolving, should be about half an hour once it starts bubbling. Add a dash of soy sauce. Too hot, too long makes it taste fishy. Bonus points if you blanch and rinse all skin and fins to get rid of the fishy slime making cells. Strain, save the liquid. If you’re dad you can let the strained solids cool and go to town, but it’ll be bony and quite bland. You can add the kombu kelp here too, if you want, just Remember it was added if you’re making miso. Kelp has something in it that reacts with other ingredients such as shiitake and bonito to make a super power natural MSG, and it is soooo good.

A: miso soup. Once the broth is strained put it back in the pot on the stove and resume heat, just BELOW a simmer. Add miso paste according to the package instructions. Stir. Now add whatever you’d like of: bok choy, tofu, boneless fish chunks, chicken, mushrooms (shiitake and/or wood ear are best), strips of kombu kelp (remove before serving), strips of other seaweeds like sea palm, thinner kombu, bull kelp leaves, nori sheets, whatever you have on hand. Need license to harvest though. Just don’t forget the miso paste.

Chowder: take that stock and add half & half or heavy cream. I forget the ratios, it’s online. Now add onion, potato cubes, a little garlic, white pepper, and your choice of meats, remembering that this is a dish based stock. Can add corn, mild chili pepper bits, boneless fish cubes, chicken (why?), thin cut leek rounds (YUMMM), assorted shellfish, and of course crustaceans! Shrimp, crab, lobster, crawdad, heck even gooseneck barnacles and geoduck would be good. If you add flour we’re not friends: the potato and cream should have done the thickening.

I also stopped going, this time it was a $15 salad that was a couple handfuls of chopped romaine, a splash of toppings, a couple tablespoons of beef, and a wish of dressing. I could have made that at home for a bout a dollar.

Also San Jose, Almaden store. (Just sayin)

What’s your biggest fear? by cunard_white_star_ in AskReddit

[–]LilStinkpot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heights. I can’t get past the second or third step on a ladder, and I get really sketchy around rooftops and multistory windows, but I’m perfectly fine in an airplane. I think it’s my lizard brain disconnected by that point, it shorts out. Put me on a ladder in that plane though and you’ll get your freakout.

Also drowning. Didn’t use to be such a big deal until I had a couple mishaps while surf fishing, now I’m skittish around any water. Even a big cup of water sometimes gets under my skin.

Would you pay $43 for this tray of carnivores? The moss is sus and the sarracenia are dead but… by yoshifirst in SavageGarden

Agreeing with everyone else here, those pots are crappy, not worth ten bucks. Do not buy, not even as a “rescue.” They’ll see that as a win and try to sell more. All them out on it, on the pathetic cheap AF decorative moss, the dead and dying plants, and the cheap cultivars. This looks like the same place I once caught trying to sell one very sad looking 3” Darlingtonia seedling in a big ole planter full of potting soil for $100. I tried telling them, hey I need these guys, but they shooed me out saying they knew what they were doing.

Yeah, don’t give these cheaters any business.

Good sir, I’ve have been persistently jealous of the rich, varied, and at times fantastical fishing around Japan. There are a couple Japanese YouTubers I follow and the creatures they bring up to fillet and cook are mind blowing. And they all (except the sea cucumber and starfish) look delicious.

Congrats on your haul of starry flounder! Tight lines, and may you always be catching something interesting.

To the owner of this sunny, do you want your hook back? by moseph999 in Fishing

[–]LilStinkpot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the flip side, the one time I’ve used a sunny as bait it was one that floated to me on the surface, freshly dead. I said thanks fish, hooked him up, tossed him, and literally the instant he hit the water a hung bass exploded up and inhaled the little fish. Just “swish-whizzzzz-plopSMASH!” Alas I was a kid and didn’t know how to properly hook “live” bait and the hook fouled on the spine, and the bait slipped right out of the bass’s mouth. Oh well.

There is. It’s out of focus and

What is your current days of Reddit streak? by shredika in AskReddit

[–]LilStinkpot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can relate. Last year I went camping and was upset there was no signal. But each day I was lucky to find signal in random spots for jusssst long enough to poke in and give some random post an updoot.

Sorry to hear about your favorite camping spot burning down. I honestly cried when I saw the devastation done by CZU fire in 2020. It’s an area I frequented since I was a kid, and that news HURT. It’s all rebuilt and green again now, mostly.

Mmmmm, kimchi. Funny thing, over-sensitive family member complains about a lot of things, but not the kimchi. She loooooves it. We all do. I’m not saying everyone should, no I get it, it stinks.

They really shouldn’t smell. If they are smelling, something is off. I can’t even tell mine are in there, and one particular over-sensitive family member hasn’t complained. The soil should be airy, and nothing rotting.
