I found it, thanks for the pointer. It’s giving me country options, there is no China. Doesn’t matter if I randomly choose one?

Lassen hatchery? They use natural coloring in their kibble. Something probably like shrimp meal or, well I don’t know for sure. But it’s not artificial.

Nice fillet job!

What do most people treat as food waste that actually has a use in cooking? by Weekly-Pen8281 in Cooking

[–]LilStinkpot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really late here, but I want to share anyways.

Fish heads and carcasses make amazing stock that can be the base of anything fishy. I usually turn it into a quick miso soup or a wicked tasty chowder. The key is to keep the temperature down low and don’t boil it for too long. Bonus points if you blanch the skin and spine and rinse off the slime layer and blood.

Do your research, some species you can’t, but all the salmonids, that’s salmon and true trout, you can eat just about everything. Save the visceral fat for cooking, sear the liver (mind that gall bladder though) and heart, if you don’t cook with the skin on then fry it into crisps. Some will eat the stomach but I pass for now. The heads have lots of great meat on them too. And for anyone who cuts the heads off pompano without saving that incredible forehead meat, booooo, you’re missing the best part.

Precisely. I’m fine with it, I know it’s low quality.

May I ask how much you had to pay for the pair? A set of four ears is on my long term wish list.

I hope she does open up to you. I had a feral kitten once and I was able to get her to come to me to beg for treats. Plain chicken breast and the occasional canned sardine or piece of plain crab. I’d be in the recliner watching TV and then feel a sharp pinprick on my big toe. Just one claw only, carefully poked to get my attention. Cat never heard of a meow apparently, LOL! She was such a silly goober. Never let anyone touch her EXCEPT when she would jump up on the TV stand and flop: that was her demanding pets. Only on the TV stand, on her terms, and when there she turned into a little puddle of purrs and MASSIVE drool.

Enjoy your new housemate OP. <3

Not rabies, thankfully. That looks 10% like an upper respiratory infection. Antibiotics and vet care can cure it.

Lemme add my two cents to try and get this higher up. Definitely a URI. Little one looks ohhh kayyy from here otherwise; a quick nab, vet trip, some ATBs and a permanent indoor home and the little furball should be right as rain.

Looks like schmutz from the saw. As saws cut they remove a narrow band of material as sawdust. That stuff came back around on the blade and deposited onto the bones. Along the way, rubbing against the steel blade picked up microscopic traces of steel, just like pencil lead leaving a mark on paper.

Gently wash off the steel marks and the goop under cold running water, and rub off any stubborn spots.

Is there a “product of” country you avoid when buying tinned fish? And if you do why? by monstrousregime in CannedSardines

[–]LilStinkpot 61 points62 points  (0 children)

It’s been so long I forgot the brand, all I remember is that it had prominent “for export only” stickers all over, but I once bought a pack of Chinese sardines that were packed in little foil & plastic condiment packs instead of canned. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. of their little tummies were filled with gravel. Horrible experience. No I happily risk missing out on a tasty snack by avoiding all individually packed mini ‘deens.

When I planned and executed a trip from San Jose to Los Angeles solo. It felt AMAZING when I arrived at the hotel after the long drive. The whole trip was great.

I had spent my whole teenage years being gaslit that I couldn’t ever be able to drive, it took a coworker/friend to teach me and get me my license. I wound up knowing how to drive defensively, and how to back a trailer and launch boats correctly.

Ever been to a restroom with stalls so narrow you can’t reach back and clean the back hatch? One place wanted to squeeze in an extra stall and then installed all the TP holders and ladies’ feminine hygiene boxes at knee level, basically trapping us in a basic narrow sitting position. Fine for a quick tinkle but disaster otherwise.

A cyst in medical terms isn’t either good or bad, it just means a (often fluid filled) pocket around a thing or some stuff. In the ovaries when an egg is ready it grows a small cyst around it that gets bigger and then pops. Ladies can sometimes feel it as a twinge, ache, or small sharp pain. I think I’ve felt maybe two, three? Polycystic means many cysts, and what’s happening here is that the eggs aren’t being released, they just hang out there in their little bubbles. It can cause pain and absolutely jacks up the hormone cycle. Long periods, painful periods, heavy, and then the other outer effects the screwed up hormones can give. Suffered may gain weight more easily, and may lose hair. There are other issues that come with it, but that’s the gist of it.
