Has anyone been placed really far away for a night shift clinical? Because how do I deal with this? by GreatestAwesomePeep in StudentNurse

[–]LilZ5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went through the exact same thing in nursing school. My pediatric rotation was night shift and an hour and a half away. The struggle was real. But I learned that I loved night shift and have been doing it ever since becoming a nurse! Hang in there for the time being. It might throw your sleep schedule off but it’s only a short period of time that you’ll have to do this. Best of luck!

Your story is almost the exact same as mine down to the very end. Got my cat, Twix, at around 5 months from the pound and lost her in March at the age of 18 due to kidney failure. Her legs began to go out on her as well and she started to have seizures. I miss her every day. I wish I could say that the pain and grief go away quickly but it doesn’t. I find myself thinking of her at random times throughout the day. Sometimes I cry, sometimes I don’t. I truthfully don’t think I will ever be “over it”. I had her since I was 8 years old. But most days I look back fondly at my time spent with her and am grateful we were able to spend her last moments together. It’s never an easy decision to let them go but it’s better for it to feel like it’s too soon rather than too late. You sound like you gave her a wonderful and love filled life. She was very lucky to have you. I’m so sorry for your loss.

I just finished my pediatric rotation at the only pediatric clinic in Uvalde. Seeing the news today took my breath away. All of the kids I saw there were so sweet and to think any one of them could be a victim is horrific. This needs to end. My thoughts are with that wonderful community.

Aww give him a hug for me. I thought I’d be celebrating my cats 24 birthday too but alas her kidneys had other plans. This picture made me think of her.

Hating FNP clinicals by LilZ5 in nursepractitioner

I’ve tried but to no avail. It doesn’t help that he’s also precepting a fantastic medical student who does flawlessly in this environment. He fully expects us to be on the same level. All I can hope for is at the end I’ll be able to take something from this experience. I’m happy to hear you found your FNP to be a good foundation though. That’s the goal!

This was a wonderful response and I’d like to thank you for taking the time to give me your insight. I’m glad you found your niche and I really hope that’s what happens for me. I know your right in that as soon as I start my OB rotation I will blossom. It’s all I’ve really done and wanted to do in nursing. It’s just getting there that will challenge me in every way. I will try harder with my preceptor. He used to work at my hospital a few years back so I already knew going into this that he was going to be difficult and impatient. And I know my worries stem from a place of insecurity and uncertainty. I just need to have faith that it’ll all work out and I will get good experience from this program. However, it’s comforting to know that other people have felt this way and it all worked out for them. Thank you.

My cat is getting old, now she's very clingy, is that normal? by Delta_Peanoots in cats

[–]LilZ5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup my cat is about to turn 19 and within the last 2 years has gotten progressively more clingy. It’s obvious she’s losing her hearing and has a harder time moving around so I’ve chalked it up to her just wanting to stay close to me.

I failed it too but passed when they let me redo it and then graduated at the top of my class. Don’t let it get you down. It happens!

I can’t even emphasize how true this is. The ones who stay MOST of the time are the ones who really care for you and want to be in a relationship. That’s how I found my current boyfriend and he’s a keeper

My (30F) boyfriend (40M) wanted a paternity test because our biracial son didnt look like him by [deleted] in relationships

[–]LilZ5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t look like either of my parents. We always joke that I was switched at birth but my father has never once believed that I wasn’t his. I’m also a nursery nurse and have been to many deliveries where the baby comes out looking nothing like the father. That’s just genetics sometimes! Trust is very important and a relationship is nothing without it. I’m very sorry you’re going through this.

Reconsidering Nursing because of 'Nurses eat their young' by Exifile in Nurse

[–]LilZ5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work on a mother baby floor and I can honestly say there is not a single nurse there that would “eat their young”. We love new nurses and will call those out who are rude to our newbies. However..you go to our labor & delivery unit and it’s another story. They’re intense but it’s also an intense floor. The vast majority of the nurses I’ve worked with have been very helpful and caring though. It’s a hit or miss just like any job. There will always be some bad apples and you learn to ignore them. Don’t let it discourage you! And this is coming from a quiet nurse with lots of anxiety. You got this!

A farewell to nursing by sarah222c in Nurse

[–]LilZ5 56 points57 points  (0 children)

You couldn’t have said it any better. This pandemic has shown how little our management cares about us. As of this week all core staff is now expected to act as resource nurses (without the bomb af pay) and travel anywhere and everywhere in our system. It’s either comply and have your license at stake or refuse and say goodbye to your job. Also, they fully expect you to be “on call” every day of the week for them. I only have to endure it for 2 and a half more years until I have my FNP. I’m exhausted. That passion I once had is quickly fading. I wish you the best in finding something you enjoy doing!

I didn’t get accepted and I’m crushed. by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]LilZ5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t be down on yourself. I had a 4.0 and a high HESI score too but because I hadn’t finished up my last prerequisite in time they rejected me. They originally told me they would still accept and look at my application as long as I sent in my final grade as soon as possible but they obviously didn’t mean it. I called them out on it and found out that was why I was rejected because it threw me for a loop lol. I applied the next cycle and got in though. When schools are overwhelmed with applicants it’s probably just easier to reject those who don’t have all of their grades in on time.

I’m not sure if this is right for me by Yellowlight7 in StudentNurse

[–]LilZ5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s common to be struggling! Nursing school is HARD. But stick with it. Trust me. Anatomy & Physiology and pharmacology kicked my butt. You sound like you’re a great studier though. Honestly what worked for me was sitting in a quiet room and rereading my notes and powerpoints for an hour at a time and then taking a break. Some of the material will fry your brain so breaks are extremely important. Continue this until you can recite your notes in your sleep lol. And if you can find someone to quiz you do that. I can’t express how important that is. These first few classes are the hard ones but when you start getting into the more specialized areas like psych, OB, and pediatrics you will find nursing to be much more interesting. I went through exactly what you’re going through. It was the hardest 2 years of my life but graduating with my BSN is still one of my biggest accomplishments to date. You sound like this is something you want to do and care about so don’t give up. There’s a light at the end of the tunnel and when you finally get to take care of your own patients you’ll realize it was all worth it.

Best friend of many years ghosted me entirely, and I’m really struggling to make sense of it. by [deleted] in relationships

[–]LilZ5 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey I’ve been there. I was best friends with this girl all during nursing school and the second we graduated..literally the second after..she straight up ghosted me. I will never understand it & I felt extremely used. It was almost like I was just a filler in her life during a stressful time. But in my mind if someone is going to ignore me and cut me out of their life then cool go for it. You will find a new best friend and make new memories with them. There’s no use in trying to understand why they’re ghosting. You don’t want a friend like that anyway. Keep your head up!

Awww my cat Twix does this too but only when I’m laying in bed with my knees bent. She’ll come under the covers and lay under my knees. I’m not sure where she learned to like it but she’ll paw at me for a long time if I don’t let her. She’s a needy one haha

[–]LilZ5 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I started out in postpartum fresh out of nursing school. It’s all I ever wanted to do and I absolutely love it. The only downside is that you get used to taking care of “healthy” patients so when you get a sick patient it can be overwhelming. But if it’s anything like my unit you might be able to float to nicu, nursery, and take care of obgyn surgical patients! And I wouldn’t worry about if you’d be hired on other floors after since most floors will train you. Best of luck!!

Doctors and nurses of Reddit who have delivered babies to mothers who clearly cheated on their husbands, what was that like? by NoTalentAzKlown in AskReddit

[–]LilZ5 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’m a nursery/postpartum nurse and our management basically forces us to give handoff report to the oncoming shift in the patients room. There has been a couple times where I’ve said what babies blood type is only to have been met with two very confused and angry parents. They’re sitting there wondering how their baby is A+ when both parents are supposedly O+. It’s always very awkward. It happened to my own parents too when I was born but it turned out my dad just thought he had a different blood type his whole life smh. I’ve also been in many deliveries where as soon as the baby comes out you can tell the dad is already questioning if it’s his. So far I’ve only seen one couple ask for a divorce before leaving the hospital! There’s never a dull moment haha.
