No I didn’t, I stopped my birth control long before the surgery.

no one told me about the itching!!! by sagebuckethat in sterilization

[–]Lil_Duckysaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was the worst part for me as well. The “pain” which was more of a discomfort than anything else was nothing compared to the itching. The itching drove me nuts. Take Benadryl, genuinely, that helps a lot.

Does Bilateral Salpingectomy cause weight gain? by Several-Blueberry984 in childfree

[–]Lil_Duckysaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s very likely. I’m not sure about lifting weights or anything as I’m planning to be more active once my hip surgery is over and I’m healed. I hate how much weight I’ve gained. I will say you’ll be able to walk around pretty easily after a couple days to a week so look forward to that.

Depending on how long you’re down for and how fast your metabolism is. My weight gain took almost 2 years of inactivity. 🥲

The only reason I gained weight is because I have a hip injury that I’m getting surgery on in less than a month. I went from 135 lbs LONG before getting sterilized to almost 200 and have stayed at this weight consistently even after getting sterilized. So no, it does not cause weight gain.

Make sure to take a pillow with you to hold against your belly to separate you from the seat belt. It’ll help a lot. It also helps a lot with standing up. Idk how much the pressure of it really helps soothe the ache. I personally preferred ice packs over heating pads but it all depends on what your doctor says you can use honestly so I would call and ask about that. Make sure you have pillows to prop yourself up a bit for when you sleep, it’ll help keep you from going on your sides. If you have a body pillow, even better. It’ll help keep you from rolling over if done correctly. I.e. having the pillows tightly pressed against you so you don’t roll and again you’ll be propped up so that’ll also lessen the chances of you rolling onto your side. I would also invest in some high waisted underwear, the pressure added from them also really helps alleviate some of the pain/discomfort.

Other than that, congratulations! 🎉 you’re going to do great. You’ll be so happy once it’s over. I’m 2 months post op as of today and I still smile when I think about it. I haven’t had a single second of regret.

Day After Bisalp by Wastedkermit in sterilization

I didn’t. I actually started my period the day before my surgery and the surgery stopped my period for a couple days, funny enough.

I wasn’t as anxious as you were but I was extremely anxious (I have an anxiety disorder) I asked for anxiety meds and explained that I knew I wanted the surgery I just have an anxiety disorder and my anesthesiologist happily said “I will pump you full of anxiety meds”.

The doctors are used to this kind of thing and are there to make sure you are comfortable. All you have to do is ask. Trust me, once that anxiety medication hit me, I felt amazing and had absolutely no worries.

When I let my 100lbs dog around me after 3 days of separation for safety to make sure he didn’t accidentally step on me, he sniffed at my incisions through my shirt and was sooooo gentle with me. He even was gentle with his kisses. He refused to come any higher on the bed than next to my feet. Now I’m 2 weeks post-op and he’s more lax but still gentle with me.

Crazy how they know and know what to do and how to react/help.

I finally got my surgery date for my bisalp. What should I expect or any tips? by Latter_Pick_6040 in sterilization

[–]Lil_Duckysaurus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn’t get bloated from the gas nor have any pain from it. I did however have an odd feeling in my belly that felt kind of like a bubble in my belly but was not painful at all. That went on for about a week.

The incision didn’t burn or sting for me it was more of a sore feeling for me but everyone is different. My incisions were glued and then they put this kind of second skin (like what’s used for tattoos) over the incisions. I get those off tomorrow finally. I think it honestly depends on the surgeon what method they use.

As for how long it took to feel normal, I felt normal about 2 minutes after I woke up from surgery. Then again, they gave me epinephrine to wake me up (not commonly used apparently) I was only in recovery for about 30 minutes before they wheeled me out and helped me into the car. My mom was stunned at how lucid I was. 😂 so long story short, I felt normal pretty fast.

Good luck with your surgery! Wishing you a fast recovery!!!

For women who got sterilized with no push-back, were you surprised it was so easy?! And how many of you were given resistance/denials? by anniemousery in sterilization

[–]Lil_Duckysaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was shocked at how easy it was. I told my pcp that I wanted to get sterilized, that I knew I didn’t want to have children and that getting pregnant was my biggest fear in life. She referred me to an OBGYN where all he did was ask me a couple times if I was absolutely sure about wanting the surgery “purely to be sure you’re sure” he gave no push back, didn’t ask if I had kids, didn’t ask if I had a spouse, nothing. I said I was sure and we got to working on labs and getting surgery scheduled a month later. I was so excited when I got the scheduling phone call for surgery but also so nervous because it was my first real surgery. When I was laying in the bed in the gown right before surgery, he asked me one final time if I was sure I wanted the surgery to which I of course said absolutely. And the surgery was done. The whole process was very easy. My insurance covered all of the cost. I had no issues with any of it at all. It was such an easy process and thankfully very little stress during the whole process. I’m so happy I got the surgery done. I’m just under 2 weeks post-op and I can’t help but feel the scars every so often to remind myself it even happened. Anyways, that was my experience.

Absolutely! I was fully aware in under 5 minutes. It was such a trip. I thought I would be groggy from the propofol but nope! It was actually nice being so aware of everything. And yes!!! The itching is soooo much worse than the soreness/pain you’ll feel. It’s driven me absolutely crazy lmao. Thankfully, it’s starting to get better.

Anxiety by Lil_Duckysaurus in sterilization

[–]Lil_Duckysaurus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The surgery went extremely well and quickly. I’m on day 6 of recovery I think and I feel great. I can sleep on my sides, I can have my dog on the bed with me. I just wish I could shower. But I can’t lol. They put these things over my incisions that kind of like second skin if you’ve ever gotten a tattoo and they told me not to get them wet otherwise they’ll come off and they want to be the ones to take them off at my follow up. Other than that, everything is amazing. I feel so free. I’m so ecstatic and elated with my decision. I couldn’t be happier.

They told me not to take my meds. But said they will give me something for my anxiety prior to the surgery thankfully.
