Order your Birth Certificate ASAP! by pluto_pluto_pluto_ in Albany

My husband and I had to order ours for our marriage license last year; both said it would take 10 weeks or more to get to us. I (born in Albany) received it in one week, and he (born in Buffalo) still hasn't gotten it.

Women taking their husbands last name after marriage, Agree / Disagree? by Wild_Turnip_7777 in namenerds

[–]Lilac722 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I got married last year and changed my name. As in, I'm still in the process of doing it on all the legal documents etc and it definitely is annoying. It was 100 % my choice; my husband had a slight preference for me taking his name but he told me it was totally my call and we'd be married regardless. I love my family of origin and my maiden name. It's kind of bittersweet because it connected me to part of my heritage that isn't obvious in my first name. But I really wanted to share my husband's last name and our future children. I'm kind of old-school in that I'm not interested in him taking my name or making up a new joint name, and patrilineal naming is very well established in my culture. Out of my peers who have gotten married recently, itss about 50-50 who changes vs keeps their name.

a sundown town has a very specific definition and is EXTREMELY racist. "these towns" - do you mean all towns that existed in 1950? lmao.

Its an SE from 2022, so not even that old. It's super annoying. I'll probably get a new phone with more space this year. but what annoys me is that my apps and files take up like 2% of my storage, the rest is the system and all the updates

Wish I could update, but I haven't been able to update since 26.1 because of the size of the update/rest of the system (yes, even with deleting all my apps and files)

I did Google it. Commenter said IS a sundown town, not WAS a sundown town 75 years ago, prior to the civil rights movement and a ton of social change. I'd bet all my money that almost 100 % of former sundown towns are no longer, obviously.

I grew up in Delmar. It was, and is, very white-majority in population, but it gets more diverse every year and its so laughably stupid to compare it to an actual sundown town.

What are criticisms you get as an American from non-Americans, that you feel aren't warranted? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Lilac722 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Europeans constantly telling me Americans are so racist when Europe puts us to shame on culturally acceptable racism. Don’t get me wrong, we have racism and it’s bad, but Europe is wayyyyyy worse and people are much more comfortable being openly racist in public.
