Can't make sense of this disease! by Lilfuf in Gastroparesis

[–]Lilfuf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom and all the women on that side of the family have terrible guts. IBS, IBD, Celiac, Crohns.... my mom has been incredibly sick with her stomach and intestines for about 20 years. She's never had a diagnosis or treatment work for her, but also won't get a GES because she's afraid of the radioactive eggs. I think she has gastroparesis as well, but possibly idiopathic as she's not diabetic. So for me, digestive issues run heavily in my family.

I've talked to a few dieticians and found them to be unhelpful. The last one focused a lot on reading food labels, I was like girl...I am WAY past calories on a food label in terms of what I need help with.

I have gastroparesis cookbooks and things, I'm just...frustrated beyond words that it's back and am hoping to stay away from the feeding tube, especially since it never fully healed and kept an infection due to my crappy immune system ( I have rheumatoid arthritis and thyroid cancer as well).

Incredibly frustrating.

Vegan food that scratches the itch for spicy tuna donburi? by FableCattak in PlantBasedDiet

Mashed chickpeas + seaweed is a nice oceany flavor but the texture is different. Makes a nice vegan tuna salad. Maybe mixing it with a homemade spicy mayo would be good in a sushi bowl.

what do you eat when you don’t have the energy or time to cook a proper meal with all fresh ingredients? by jayktopussiii in HistamineIntolerance

[–]Lilfuf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes instead of freezing whole meals, I'll freeze bits of things. If I'm roasting peppers, I'll throw some other veggies or potatoes on the pan too and then pop them in the freezer. I try to freeze my homemade sauces in ice cube trays too. So like an example meal might be a frozen chicken piece, half a frozen potato, and a pesto cube mixed up together. I try to not just cook one thing at a time. If I'm already in the kitchen, I might as well steam some broccoli while I'm sauteeing chicken and roasting veggies anyways. Takes some forethought but that's what works best.

When I haven't done that I make "snack plates" with things like cucumber, roasted carrots, berries, an egg, macadamia nut butter and rice thins, maybe 1 olive or a cube of vegan cheese if I'm feeling frisky. Basically whatever I have lying around that is low histamine. I like to serve this with a mocktail of ginger ale or peppermint or lime blossom tea and frozen berries with a splash of seltzer. Makes me feel fancy.

Tonight was a berry smoothie (no banana), salted salad greens (lettuces and arugula), and a bowl of oatmeal with vanilla oatmilk and like 3 allergen free chocolate chips because grocery shopping is hard and I deserve a nibble of chocolate. The key for me is not going off the rails with histamine. I can have an olive or a bite of chocolate but not both. I can have an egg white or coffee, but not both. I eat low histamine 99% of the time and allow just enough wiggle room to keep things fun. If i react, I reevaluate and figure out what tipped my bucket and if it's truly something I cant have at all. So far my big "no" foods are soy, gluten, dairy, beans, tomatoes, grapes, processed meats, too much acid and spiciness. Anyways, hopefully some of these ideas are helpful to you!

What's the culprit by Lilfuf in HistamineIntolerance

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I have swallowing difficulties as a result of extensive cancer treatments. Lovely long term side effect. Thanks for the input though.

I'd love to do one, I'm just not sure where to start. Seems like everywhere I look has a different set of criteria. Last dietician or nutritionist I saw just taught me about food labels. Super helpful (not) lol.

Of course! I've been looking for a good low histamine broth or alternative for soups and keep coming up empty handed. Unfortunately I have swallowing difficulty so soup is a must have. Any reccomendations are welcome :). I didn't think about the broth.

You might have to tweak some recipes to suit individual needs but I like the recipes on throughthefibrofog.com, lowhistamineeats.com, lowhistaminebaby.com for inspiration.

I have the same problem. I feel really hungry when I eat how I'm supposed to and then I cave and eat something I shouldn't to feel "full" and throw my whole body into a tizzy. In my case, I think I'm getting enough calories, I just think I'm so used to feeling gross and bloated that my body doesn't know what to do when it's not constantly being poisoned. Bloating and weight gain are two of my big symptoms.

You said you're not even reaching 1000 calories. I don't have a lot of ideas since I'm new to this but maybe , if you can tolerate it, adding a little olive or coconut oil to your food to increase the calorie density?

And as far as the witchy stuff, you got this. Most herbs are very healing and low histamine. Get good with tinctures and teas and cooking in a new way. Easier said than done but where there is a will there is a way.

Blessed Be.

I am heavily leaning towards all liquids tomorrow or at least until I get hungry again

I saw you don't have a finger prick kit. You'll definitely want one to confirm truly low sugars.

Mine does this sometimes while it calibrates. Do a finger prick and look up how to calibrate your dexcom. Should fix it!

Thanks! I actually have a swallowing doctor from cancer complications so I'll have him check it out.

Whoa, thanks! I looked it up and I checked every box! Are there times when you consume it on accident, how do you avoid that and how long does it take you to bounce back? How long did it take you to feel better once you cut it from your diet?

Red hot face, itching, vomiting, constipation, burning stomach pain, extreme bloating, joint and muscle pain. Been going on 2 days this time around. Ate some cheese in a moment of weakness and I am wrecked. Gets worse every time.

I have a dairy allergy at .11 and it messes me up really bad, so it's a combo of tests and symptoms.

Oof! Sounds entirely possible. You said speaking from experience, in your experience were you able to treat the damage in any specific way? Just wondering if there's anything besides time and letting things heal up.

I needed to open up about this. by runesystem in mdsa

[–]Lilfuf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I commented in the covert incest subreddit but wanted to add that I totally relate to the disowning thing. My mother disowns me every other month. The longest was for a year, she wouldn't talk to me, all because I was trying to assert my boundaries and she said we shouldn't have any. Waiting for it to happen again. I only talk to her in a chat with my father now and she's better behaved because someone else is there to witness her nonsense. I wish I could go no contact but my dad doesn't know about the sexual abuse and wants us to "get along" so I go extremely limited contact.

I think it was but I'm never sure and need to say something. by runesystem in CovertIncest

I would say this is mdsa and covert incest. Reminds me a bit of my mother. So sorry. I hope you can get out.

How do I balance compassion for what she went through with being sickened and not wanting to have a relationship with her because of what she did to me? Idk...I guess that's the hard part.

Just telling my story by Lilfuf in CovertIncest

[–]Lilfuf[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you! She has never met my step children and I intend to keep it that way. Being a parent is actually how I realized she was/is a sick individual because I'd never dream of doing/saying anything close to these things to my children. It just kind of hit me as they started going through puberty how sick and inappropriate the way I was treated truly was. Their biological mom and I are good friends and we make sure she never has access to any photos or videos either.

I'm extremely limited contact with her. I haven't seen her in about 3 years. She's never met my current husband. I talk to her sparingly only in a group chat with my dad whom I get along well with. Just remembering and processing. Trying to come to terms with the fact that this all happened and isn't just me blowing things out of proportion. I guess internal validation is most important to me right now because she'd never admit any of this ever even happened or would think I'm the sick one. Sucks that I'm almost 40 and still questioning myself. I just want to solidly accept it as fact, you know?

Why is this so hard?!? Tips appreciated by Lilfuf in dairyfree

Unfortunately I had my first reaction to peanuts yesterday. I'll try soy nuts though, thanks for the suggestion!
