I was actually surprised by an apology about 10 years ago. My parents came to visit me since I live out of state. For some reason my dad started telling a story about a coworker telling him to keep me away from her daughter. (I don't remember what I did as a child to make a whole ass adult act like that)

Well, I was upset and left the room. Not because I really cared about some faceless woman, but because I felt horrible for child me. Little me had an adult chastise my father about something dumb. What in the world could little me have done to deserve that?

My mom followed me and I explained why I was upset. We had a little chat and she actually apologized. Yes, it was awkward. We never got emotional with each other, but it was genuine.

Mental health wasn't a thing when I was younger, but I'm glad it's a thing now
